When CM Punk steps into the ring to fight Paul Heyman client Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, he will face a Superstar who, in Punk’s words, is “a monster."

Against The Anomaly, The Straight Edge Superstar will have a near 50-pound weight disadvantage, as well as a reach disadvantage, never mind an obvious shortcoming in the strength department. Depending on how well he recovers from Lesnar’s savage attack on the July 15 edition of Raw — an incident that resulted in whiplash and strained knee and ankle ligaments for Punk — The Voice of the Voiceless may well be competing at less-than-peak form against an athletic abnormality who wrestles a part-time schedule.

But one factor that will not work against Punk when he arrives at Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center is fear. The Straight Edge Superstar concedes that Lesnar is every bit The Beast Incarnate that Heyman makes him out to be, but according to Punk, beasts like Lesnar exist for only one reason: to be slayed.

Punk has vowed to remove any obstacle between himself and the man who double-crossed him, Heyman. Motivated not only by the sting of betrayal, but also the uncomfortably personal remarks spouted by WWE’s extreme strategist, The Best in the World will likely need every ounce of fearlessness if he hopes to topple the biggest obstacle of them all in Lesnar.

The scene on July 15’s Raw did little to instill confidence in Punk supporters. Made to look like a courageous but overwhelmed civilian by The Anomaly, The Straight Edge Superstar displayed plenty of heart in the encounter, repeatedly pulling himself up by the bootstraps and reengaging in battle. Yet, when the dust settled, Lesnar appeared to have won the dust-up handily.

Punk insists the results will be different at SummerSlam. As unforgiving as Lesnar has proven to be, The Best in the World may be even more unrelenting. The Beast took the first several rounds of battle with relative ease, but with the war set to culminate at SummerSlam — inside the domain where Punk feels most at home, the squared circle — Lesnar’s victory is far from a fait accomplished.

Adding in the deeply personal overtones of the Heyman-Punk rivalry, there is reason to believe the fearless and untiring Straight Edge Superstar will stop at nothing to gain the win. Whether or not The Beast Incarnate can actually be slayed, however, might be a different story altogether.

Find out what happens when The Best takes on The Beast at SummerSlam, live on pay-per-view on Sunday, Aug. 18.

Re: Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk Feud

The match must also be longer than usual as well IMO. A good hard fought match were Punk uses his agility and brains to take down Lesnar. I don't expect Punk to win the first match, but I do see him winning one of their battles, well if they do more than one matches on PPV.

Re: Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk Feud

If anyone's seen Warrior, the match should be like the penultimate fight of the film. The one with Brendan going against Koba.

Proper David vs. Goliath match. Lesnar should be the true BEAST. Destroying everyone on the way to Summerslam, maybe even rip apart the set or something showing how much of a monster he is. Nothing like he's been booked since his return. Build an aura around Lesnar and make him seem dangerous, make him "injure" someone on the way while all the while Punk's the ULTIMATE underdog. His best friends turned his back on him and he's got no one to turn to, it's him against the world.

I hope they make sure they play up the fact that Punk knows a lot of styles of fighting so he can use them against Lesnar at SS, a real David vs. Goliath match is what would make this investing. Heyman is just the leash holding Lesnar back because as he's said before "his clients don't fight for free". Make Punk talk about overcoming odds his whole life and how this is nothing different, another obstacle to overcome. Maybe have Heyman remind Punk that he wouldn't be where he is today if it wasn't for him. Have Punk doubt himself whilst Heyman and Lesnar are on a warpath.

I know Lesnar should win but if they build it anything like this, i think Punk would have to win. You can't do an underdog story where the underdog gets beaten. I'm seriously looking forward to this match.

This Punk/Heyman feud is being put together brilliantly

From a storytelling POV, from the Raw after Wrestlemania when Punk came out - defeated & left to last night's PPV, I don't see how anybody can dislike this. The artistic side of outside the ring storytelling at it's finest, especially given the fact that they have a legit real life relationship & history together, it truly brings out the realness & emotion of the situation. I know a lot of people who take this shit too seriously get all butt-hurt when Punk is doing anything but playing the Kayfabe-breaking Heel, but all the people that diss this guy for not being able to do anything else need to pay attention to him ever since Payback.

Playing the naive, trusting, loyal friend as Paul Heyman plays the master manipulator & con-man has been a treat to watch. And given how the casuals are eating this shit up literally a few months after he was Kayfabe mocking & pouring a dead man's ashes on his body shows you that he is doing an excellent job, despite what the handful of morons who come into this topic trying to be smart are gonna tell you.

I agree it's great, but then again anything with Heyman and Punk's input would be, should be one of the best feuds for a long time

Re: This Punk/Heyman feud is being put together brilliantly

I dunno, it feels sorta rushed to me. I really wanted a story about Heyman being conflicted and having to choose, and subtly showing the audience which was he was leaning. Just a look here, or tripping up in his speech. Slow burn. The way it is, we knew Heyman was turning on Punk. Brock is never around, so I find that really hurts the build up. And it was like "Punk, I'm on your side." "OK cool, Paul." *dead pan eyes into camera showing he's not sure*. Next major interaction, Heyman turns on him. Seems a bit abrupt. Last week, there wasn't an interaction at all, Orton and Punk just fought and Punk won.

I guess I'm not as into it as others. I wouldn't call it brilliant or anything. And no, that's not because its new. Its just being done in a way that I personally don't feel is as effective.

I'm so pumped up for this rivalry! The mic confrontations will be awesome and the match could be amazing as well.

Re: This Punk/Heyman feud is being put together brilliantly

It's been excellently done and well paced. Even without Lesnar they've done this perfectly. They couldn't have Punk focus on Lesnar for 4 weeks leading into MITB so they have it transition into this Punk/Heyman ordeal (with him only making comments at Lesnar while being primarily focused on what Heyman was doing), which will then transition back into the Punk/Lesnar feud. It's been a great job so far and now with Lesnar's return (again) on the horizon, things are probably only going to get a whole lot more interesting. Can't wait.

Re: This Punk/Heyman feud is being put together brilliantly

If only Paul Heyman could wrestle lol. He'd be the GOAT for sure. Wait, he already is :heyman.

I'm liking it so far. Wouldn't say I'm loving it or call it brilliant however. My main sticking point is the fact that out of the blue Punk doesn't want Heyman's help any more, just like that, out of nowhere. He left, had a complete character change without any explanation, came back and this is the result. And I've said this before but it's always relevant, as much of a Lesnar mark as I am, him not being around seriously hinders any sort of momentum building for his matches. The thread title tells you all you need to know; This Punk/Heyman feud not Punk/Lesnar feud. At least now we have a clear divide though. Heyman is firmly with Brock and no doubt we'll get a scathing confrontation between the 3 on Raw tonight. Given the location it should provide a nice fresh injection of hype back into this program.....until Lesnar leaves again and they're back to square one lol.

Yeah, this is my one problem with the feud. I mean it seems what happened at Payback with Heyman momentarily distracting Punk is what caused this, but that just seems to frivolous for a break-up like this one. Actually come to think of it, Punk mentioned how he took offense to being called a "client", but it still falls into the same problem as just being too minor to cause Punk to want to just have Heyman stop following him.

I think they rushed that part of it, and while I'm still very happy with the feud overall, they could've handled it a lot better. If the breakup had started showing after Mania and we saw signs of their relationship deteriorating slowly it would've all been fine, but Punk took a break (and much needed probably with the knee problems and all that). Even still they could've stretched it out a lot more by having Heyman still accompany Punk for 3 of the last 4 Raws, almost costing Punk matches every time, and then Punk telling him this past Monday that he didn't want Heyman out there for MITB. Then what happens at MITB, happens.

Nevertheless, it's still a great feud regardless of that, and will probably only get better with Lesnar coming in and the focus shifting from Punk/Heyman to Punk/Lesnar (with Heyman). Also is there any news on what Raws Lesnar is appearing on? I've heard tonight, but that's it.

Re: This Punk/Heyman feud is being put together brilliantly

Heyman almost cost Punks return match in his hometown by unintentionally distracting him in his math with Jericho. Thats why Punk doesn't want Heyman as his ringside manager.

The only flaw is that Punk just turned up as a babyface with no explanation. But judging the feud itself so far, its been really good. The Lesnar void that killed the HHH/Lesnar feud has been filled as the sole focus in this program is Punk and Heyman and not the part timer who shows up once every blue moon
