If the Cenation thought John Cena’s schedule as a WWE Champion would get any easier once he turned back the sizable challenge of Ryback at WWE Payback, they were sorely mistaken.

At Money in the Bank on July 14, The Champ will face a new monster of a contender in the form of Mark Henry, the 400-pound-plus powerhouse who thrives on causing pain and appears bent not just on destruction, but also on capturing the WWE Title around Cena’s waist.

Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero made the championship bout official on the June 17 edition of Raw after The World’s Strongest Man callously leveled Cena only one night removed from The Champ’s Three Stages of Hell Match against Ryback. In the moments immediately preceding the attack, Henry delivered what many believed to be a heartfelt swan song meant to cap off a stellar 17-year career in WWE. Instead, Henry’s retirement speech was merely a ruse, a setup used to lull a respectful Cena into a false sense of security and make him easy prey.

Now, the Cenation leader and Henry are on a collision course for July 14, and if Cena loyalists aren't concerned about their hero’s title reign — not to mention his physical well-being — they ought to be.

Ill-tempered even on the best of days, Henry is sporting a huge chip on his shoulder, and it seemingly has everything to do with a single objective: winning the WWE Championship that has eluded him in his near two decades of competition. WWE fans will remember that Henry set his sights on Cena the night after WrestleMania 29, only to have another monster, Ryback, steal the spotlight with a high-profile act of betrayal.

Lost in the commotion was the fact that Henry pinned Ryback on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Considering how much trouble Cena had overcoming the Shell Shocking Superstar in recent months, will he be up to the challenge of Mark Henry, one of WWE’s few competitors to hold a completely valid pinfall victory over “The Human Wrecking Ball”?

Henry also takes a discomforting amount of pride in being the reckless and ruthless gatekeeper of the “Hall of Pain.” The list of Superstars who have been put out of action by the superheavyweight is lengthy, reading like a “Who’s who” of WWE. Could The Champ — who’s been plagued by injuries as varied as bone chips in his elbow to a nearly torn meniscus to a torn Achilles tendon — be walking into the most dangerous match of his 11th WWE Title reign at Money in the Bank?

Find out what happens when Cena’s indefatigable spirit is put to the test by more than 400 pounds of bad attitude and bone-breaking expertise. To watch all the action, catch WWE Money in the Bank live on pay-per-view on Sunday, July 14.

I'd been cooling down on Henry for a long while now as he seemed to just be becoming a generic, boring monster heel. But it's now safe to say my interest is captured for this. And all of that's because of Henry. I'm not interested in this match for Cena and the fact he's almost inevitably going to win is rather annoying to me.

But still, I want to see this. I hope Henry wins because holy fuck does he deserve it and he'd be a much more interesting champion than Cena (though most people would be that at this point, really) but odds are good he's not going to. Which is a shame, to have that awesome promo and the month of fued build-up to be thrown away by having Cena "overcome the odds" once again.

I've noticed lately that if you loose your last PPV match, you are given a WWE title shot.

Cena lost in the 6 man tag at EC (I know this doesn't count because of the rumble but yeah)
Ryback lost at WM and got 2 title matches
Henry lost at Extreme Rules and is now getting a title shot

So basically Daniel Bryan needs to loose at MITB to get a shot at Summerslam

On the match, I would love for Henry to finally get a run with the WWE title. That set up was awesome but you just know Henry is just going to be another monster heel to feed to Cena.

Re: Can Mark Henry beat Cena and become WWE champion?

Who knows?

We all thought that Henry would never beat Orton for the WHC and he beat him clean with the WSS. Also they might put the belt on him to say thanks. I think he deserves it anyway.

ALSO it would make sense because it could set up a face Bryan vs a heel Henry at SS.

Re: Can Mark Henry beat Cena and become WWE champion?

Don't see him getting the belt, and personally, I couldn't care less if he doesn't. There have been far better talents than Mark Henry, who have never been WWE champ - or any kind of world champ. If someone like Regal, or Piper, or Perfect, or Davey, or even someone as recent as Barrett, couldn't get a run with the WWE championship at least once, I don't think Henry should... and especially not a "thankyou" run - that's a cop-out. If they're going to give Henry of all people a "thankyou WWE title run", then give one to Regal too, 'cos even at this stage of his career, Regal would still be 10 times better in the ring and more entertaining, than Henry has been, or ever will be. Don't get me wrong, Henry is decent, but he's never been anything special, and he's never going to go down as one of the greats. A HOF spot will suffice - and I'd say even that's pushing it, when you look back over his career.

Henry deserves to hold the WWE title, even if only for a day... that promo was immense and his work in general since the House of Pain gimmick has been gold!

Re: Can Mark Henry beat Cena and become WWE champion?

Although I want Henry to win the title, it just won't happen. I could probably see Henry losing the match by DQ or count out, then he gets frustrated and lays out John Cena, then the MITB winner ( Daniel Bryan) comes out and cashes it in on an injured Cena and becomes WWE champion.

Re: Can Mark Henry beat Cena and become WWE champion?

My ideal situation would be Henry winning the WWE title and Bryan cashing in and winning it at Summerslam, while Cena takes that vacation he promised us last year. Not happening, but I'm gonna dream anyway.

Re: Can Mark Henry beat Cena and become WWE champion?

This is how I would love this angle to go.

Mark Henry wins the WWE title. Cena is devestated.

Shortly after Mark Henry retires as champion, taking the belt with him. Cena is all 'without the WWE Title, I'm nothing' and decides to take some much needed time off.

This event elevates the Big Gold Belt to the top spot. During this time, US and Intercontinental Championships also receive a boost and become more relevant, Cena will be gone and everything can just be better.

Obviously though it all ends with Cena coming back, challenging Henry to one last match with high stakes, Cena winning and then it's back to business as usual.

I wouldn't be against Henry getting a run with the WWE Championship, but I really don't think it will happen here. He may have had a shot if he was playing the face shooting for that "one accolade" that he never achieved. But being a heel, doing the dastardly thing that he did on RAW, I just don't see him getting what he wants out of this. Add to that the fact that he is facing John Cena and the odds of him winning look even worse. Cena will look like the underdog, but will beat the odds and retain.

The segment Monday night was great. The angle is good. The match might even be good. But Henry won't win the WWE Championship.

If they're really serious about this Bryan push, then I'm starting to think Henry will win. I think WWE would rather a "monster" take the title off Cena than a "vanilla midget". And with the way they just love to portray Cena as a fucking underdog, that couldn't happen in a Cena/Bryan match. Give Henry a month run with the strap before he rides off. But knowing WWE, Cena will have the strap til 2018, & everybody else will just not matter.

I think this will be a ladder Match

Mark Henry wins the Belt

A Double turn occurs when The Shield attacks Henry and Cena reveals that he is the one who brought the Shield in!

Actually I don't mind the idea of Ziggler being in a MiTB match if the scenario plays out where henry gets mad and lays out Cena and Ziggler cashes in on the WWE belt :mark:

but no, I mean, Cena beats Henry and Henry takes time off. That's what will happen.
