Re: Cena's going to end the Streak
I just don't see Cena agreeing to lose at WM29.
That would make 3 straight WM losses, he has to have some sort of reservations against losing again on the biggest stage in wrestling.
The only way I could see Cena actually beating taker at WM30 would be redemption from 3 straight losses at WM, but even than, the probability that anyone beats Taker at WM is as likely as the Lakers beating out Denver, Houston, or Golden State for a 6th to 8th seed in this years playoffs. And this is coming from a lifelong Lakers fan! Just unlikely, as much as the fans want to believe it will happen. Taker retires undefeated at WM.

Re: Cena's going to end the Streak
This is the last big money match the WWE has and it'll be worth seeing next year. If they could book Austin/Punk too then it'd be the best WM in the past decade.

Why can't they book Booker T vs RVD?

Austin was recently quoted as being as healthy as he's ever been, mainly for his studio films that go straight to DVD. He's reportedly doing very well with his straight to DVD action film genre that he stars in. Not sure he would come back, but if he were to, it would be great to see him wrestle one more match at the big dance. Austin deserves it as much as anybody else, he just needs to get that wrestling itch back.

If he were to turn heel yeah, if he laughed and was a smiling bumbling face then hell no!

Like I said in my post, Austin recently addressed his health -
Quote:
|
"I've been 7 months out, healing up my ACL and PCL, so I'm waiting till Summer to film my next action movie. We've signed a two-picture deal through my company, Broken Skull Ranch Productions with Anchor Bay Entertainment. I'm looking forward to doing those, because I have full creative control and can let the shit really fly. I've also got a couple of other reality TV projects I'm working on which will be released in the next couple of months. I love reality television, the atmosphere that it creates is just a bad-ass and fun way to spend time doing something you love to and getting paid for it! I'm also spending more time at my ranch; deer season is over till next year, but I'm kicking ass on my leg, feeling good and getting ready to film season 3 of Redneck Island in April. I'm as busy as I wanna' be, feeling fortunate and also doing pretty god darn good in terms of my health!"
|
So tell me, what's worse, his starring in all these action films, or one 20 minute wrestling match?
Doesn't sound like wrestling a match is as much the issue as Steve being more content with his current career making films and running his production company.

Re: Cena's going to end the Streak
Yeah, he can be in as best of health as he feels comfortable. As soon as he comes back to wrestling, all his troubles and injuries are going to come right back. He's more content with the films and production company because they didn't (re)break his neck and send his knees to kingdom come. Even his risky work in some of the action films resulted in of little consequence compared to his tenure in wrestling.

I don't think it will do Taker that much good if he retires undefeated because they would have spent all these years building it up by accidently, and not get that return investment. Undertaker already has the most Wrestlemania appearances and most Wrestlemania wins. Nobody will ever top that, he's already cemented his legacy. Now will Cena go through with it is a different story. His always been a company guy and he has respect for Taker. I think he would like the fact that he at least would get a program to wrestle Undertaker in.

And that is exactly why wrestling today gets the shitty rap that it does.
Cena is NOT the perfect guy. I have zero idea how anyone can say that. They'll be putting over a guy who a) has already more accomplishments than any other full time wrestler in the industry today and b) who in April 2014 will be a few weeks shy of his 37th birthday. Wouldn't like...you know...it make sense to try and elevate the position of someone who would eventually take over the reigns as being the next big thing in the industry instead of giving it to a guy who is the last one on the roster who needs such notoriety?
And think about it like this-Ric Flair has one 16 world titles. Bruno was champion for over 2000 days. Why don't they try to have someone beat those accomplishments? In Bruno's case its not really practical, but in Flair's case, I would at least like to believe that it means something. Its an incredibly impressive record that has held up over all of the years. Flair is the 16 time world champion-that stat in itself is meaningful. I don't see the point in erasing it.
So yeah...Cena ending the streak, in my eyes, is about the most idiotic decision they could make. And I can see this making quite a hooplah among the guys in the back as well. Cena doesn't need anymore. The only thing that will make people accept Cena as an all time great is when they themselves want to believe it, and then accept it. Doesn't matter how much pro Cena propaganda they shove down our throats, if we won't buy it, we won't buy it. You'd think they'd have figured that out by now.
Would I quit watching the Fed if he did end it? Absolutely. No returns, no nothing. It'd be like Bruno-I disagree so vehemently with the direction of the product that I would simply not watch anymore. Like...the past however many years would have been a total waste of time, trying to invest myself in something that would ultimately be ruined to further elevate someone who didn't need it and most of us are sick to death of anyway. One of the things that pisses me off the most in life is having my time wasted, and that's why I don't watch Raw anymore except for listening to Review a Raw and catching suggested segments. It became a waste of time. And now there exists this possibility that the past 2 years since I've been watching again will have been another waste of my time. All that interest and caring about the Streak...flushed away to put the cancer of the industry over. That'd be the ultimate waste of my time.
Would not quit wrestling overall, though-that's why other options exist.

That's exactly what I was alluding to my friend, the idea that he may be more content with where he's at now where he doesn't feel the need to come back to wrestling, even for a one off. We agree in that regard. As a fan, and I'm sure millions upon millions of Austin's loyal fan base would agree, it would be great to see him come back for that one big match against the likes of Punk or Cena. Health wise, he's clearly not in the same realm as the Rock, but never say never.
