Jim Cornette once told Chris Candido "If you have a 'surprise' at every show, then it's no longer a surprise. People will expect it at every show"

That is how I feel about The Undertaker's streak. If 90% of the WWE Universe just expect Undertaker to win, then the streak matches mena nothing. They can't sell because no believe Undertaker can actually lose. Can CM Punk win a non-WM match against T'Taker? Sure. But no one believes Punk can do it. There is no suspense or drama. What does this mean? Since WWE likes to rehash ideas, lets say they start the new streak this year. Example: Ryback. What if they did a new streak angle with him. In 5-10 years no matter how over Ryback is, these matches wont draw as well because the WWE Universe will just think that anytime WWE does a streak angle, the one with the streak always wins.
By having Undertaker lose this year, every streak match in the future will have so much intrigue because the fans will now learn that the streak can end at anytime. Doubt sells. And there seems to be no doubt in any of Undertaker's WM matches.

I just can't see how people can call this one of WWE's greatest angles when the almost everyone is certain who will win.

I think with reports of Punk taking time off this match is ripe for a surprise because most are expecting a loss. Have Punk win and bust the streak and have Taker be super pissed about the Paul Bearer stuff and the loss and totally destroy him. They can go the DQ route and say Punk busted the streak but technically Taker wasn't beaten, beats himself basically. Cena does not need to be the streak buster, he is cemented for life. Punk is too and while his title streak was great this would put him on that next level. Punk is my favorite right now and hate to see him being gone for a while but at the same time I understand. He busts his ass and deserves the break.

And Living Colour playing him out is pretty cool. Live entrances have been saved for the cream of the crop. Though truth be told the live performances usually sound like shit. Pretty fuckin cool all the same.

It's gonna be awesome having Living Colour play his theme song as he stands over Undertaker, having beaten the streak. Would be bigger than Hogan body slamming Andre.

Let's see if we can all agree on something. Once we can all agree, I will try to convince all you once more.

OK. Can we all agree that either one of these 3 matches would draw more money than CM Punk vs. Undertaker?

Undertaker vs. Cena
Undertaker vs. Brock (remember the tease at UFC 121?)
Undertaker vs. Rock

Ok, as a big CM Punk fan even I can see that Punk vs. Taker is not the most lucrative route that WWE can go.

Now that we all agree:

SO...if Undertaker's health is in question and there is no guarantee that he could go another year, then why aren't WWE doing the big money match now? They could had easily done Cena vs. Taker this year and saved the Rock Vs. Cena rematch for WM30. Undertaker could had won the RR as the #30 entrant throwing out both Ryback and Cena without breaking a sweat and gone on to face The Rock....OR They could had saved HHH vs. Lesnar II for Summerslam 2013 and let Lesnar say that they only way he was coming back to WWE is if he faced Taker.

And let's say Taker does have one or two more WM match in him. Why Punk? Why not Brock this year, Rock next year, and Cena at WM31??

The answer is simple. CM Punk is Undertaker's handpicked person to break the streak. And he knows we wont be around 3-4 more years while he continues the streak in big money matches vs. the aforementioned performers.

Basically, it's too late in Undertaker's career to have a blowoff streak win. This match is happening because it is suppose to be more significant than anyone currently realizes. This match is happening because it is the one that Undertaker finally loses.

Sure... WWE doesn't even want him main-eventing PPVs when he's champion and now he's going to break the streak. Not very likely.
