The Angle match was 1 month before the Benoit match. But yeah, it still counts.

Rock is the only guy who tapped out while being the #1 face.

I don't like that there's a stigma on tapping out. There are plenty of big names in the company with submission finishers. If Cena fights Punk, I want that match to be just as likely to end in an STFU or Anaconda Vise tapout than an AA/GTS pinfall. The fact that the top people are somehow "above" tapping out really annoys me. HHH tapping out at Summerslam I thought was great.

Meh, it's no big deal. Orton and Cena joke on each other all the time. It's nothing to get worked up over.

He also made Lesnar tap in 03'.

Benoit has a good tap-out record too: Rock, Lesnar, Cena, Austin, Angle, HHH, HBK. He's only missing Hogan.

There is a difference between being pinned and tapping out.

Being pinned means you've been knocked unconscious; the fight has been "beaten out" of you. Tapping out is an act of will. You're willing giving up and losing the match.

It's like a soldier at war surrendering to the enemy instead of fighting to the death. It's not that the former is cowardly or disreputable; it's just that the latter is a more honorable way to go out.

This is a subject that really interests me actually, I started a thread on it recently (died on its arse, of course). I'll quote what I said in that one as a reply to your message above:

I like to think if I tapped, it would be a "well he got the jump on me, and if I didn't tap he would break a bone, better to fight another day" versus "I lost the will to fight and didn't answer a 3 count, I obviously couldn't go on." Just one way of looking at it.

Say Punk got Taker in the Vise at Mania and Taker tapped - would it be more shocking that the streak was over, or that the Phenom did the unthinkable and tapped out like a jobber, even though Punk is a deadly submission artist?

Edit to add: And of course, by contrast, if Punk were to tap to the Hell's Gate, that seems much much more likely, doesn't it? What makes a wrestler above tapping out?
It just really bothers me that the "big" stars (esp Rock & Cena) are above tapping. Cena can lock in the STFU, and Rocky can get in the Sharpshooter, and we'll all look at our watches and think "well, it's not over yet." (I'd love to be proved wrong tomorrow night)

I fear for this match. Rock is filming Hercules movie so he is putting on massive amounts of muscle, he doesn't care too much about the match itself it seems and I can juse see this match being a major disappointment. Obviously cena will get the blame but that shouldn't happen.

Rock is the one to blame if it does go wrong. Also rock will not want to be taking any major bumps, it will be a safe match and at the rock's pace. This is what I am worried about.

Cena is still the #1 guy in the business

...did you not see the match LAST year? Of course this match is gonna suck.

I don't blame Cena. He and Rock have about as much chemistry with each other as a brick and salad dressing do. Some guys just don't click. Add in the horrendous build and...yeah...disappointment TWICE IN A LIFETIME.
