There is a difference between being pinned and tapping out.

Being pinned means you've been knocked unconscious; the fight has been "beaten out" of you. Tapping out is an act of will. You're willing giving up and losing the match.

It's like a soldier at war surrendering to the enemy instead of fighting to the death. It's not that the former is cowardly or disreputable; it's just that the latter is a more honorable way to go out.

This is a subject that really interests me actually, I started a thread on it recently (died on its arse, of course). I'll quote what I said in that one as a reply to your message above:

I like to think if I tapped, it would be a "well he got the jump on me, and if I didn't tap he would break a bone, better to fight another day" versus "I lost the will to fight and didn't answer a 3 count, I obviously couldn't go on." Just one way of looking at it.

Say Punk got Taker in the Vise at Mania and Taker tapped - would it be more shocking that the streak was over, or that the Phenom did the unthinkable and tapped out like a jobber, even though Punk is a deadly submission artist?

Edit to add: And of course, by contrast, if Punk were to tap to the Hell's Gate, that seems much much more likely, doesn't it? What makes a wrestler above tapping out?
It just really bothers me that the "big" stars (esp Rock & Cena) are above tapping. Cena can lock in the STFU, and Rocky can get in the Sharpshooter, and we'll all look at our watches and think "well, it's not over yet." (I'd love to be proved wrong tomorrow night)

Rock is the one to blame if it does go wrong. Also rock will not want to be taking any major bumps, it will be a safe match and at the rock's pace. This is what I am worried about.
...did you not see the match LAST year? Of course this match is gonna suck.

I don't blame Cena. He and Rock have about as much chemistry with each other as a brick and salad dressing do. Some guys just don't click. Add in the horrendous build and...yeah...disappointment TWICE IN A LIFETIME.

Foolish. Rock took a lot of bumps in their first match(just rewatched it). I think that match is severely underrated. It kinda dragged and probably needed to end about 5 mins earlier, but other than that, I loved the match. Besides Rock's sharpshooter, the match was crisp, with a lot of action, storytelling, back and forth action, with some great near falls, and the surprising ending made it that much sweeter. Cut this match down 5-7 mins and their Wrestlemania 29 match will steal the show. Just my IMO.

Cena and Rock undoubtedly would've had a great match back when Rock was lightning fast in the ring.

See, I just don't think the match was bad. Maybe I was to into the moment/match to judge it unbiasedly, but I just don't see this horrific match that the IWC saw.

I still don't think their match last year was BAD. It was good for what it was. Full of drama, belivable nearfalls and spots and a fitting ending to the match.

However if ROCK had stayed in the WWE, he would have had some great matches with the likes of Cena, Punk, HBK, Orton and etc.

I didn't think it was that bad either but they had some miscommunication during a few sequences and it was slow paced.

That's my only criticism of the match, that it was slow paced and lasted longer than it should. Hogan - ROCK didn't last half and an hour and was still a great match. The sad thing is that tomorrow's match will be around 25 - 30 minutes again according to dirtsheets
