Jericho returning made my night. I wasn't expecting that at all. The final three were perhaps the most predictable of all time, but up until that point I enjoyed the match. There wasn't too much to highlight but Jericho coming in and out of the match made up for almost all of it. Easily the Rumble MVP for me.

Goldie/Cody was pretty awesome and the YES kicks/response was a cool spot. Ziggler didn't do all that much for me despite lasting however long he lasted; seemed like he spent more time nearly getting eliminated than anything else.

ADR/Show and the tag titles were unremarkable, yet entirely fine matches. LMS rematches are still dumb though.

I thought the show was a fun event overall, despite lacking any truly great matches. Punk/Rock could've been better but it was overbooked, underbooked and Rock gassed. Hey ho. Punk ends his run with another special match, albeit one that doesn't live up to a lot of his other defenses.

I was actually enjoying the Rumble match itself. Right up until Cena came in. As soon as he came in, it was all about him. He really shit on the entire rumble match. After he won, the entire arena cooled down a bit, even for Rock/Punk. It's almost as if there was a black cloud over the entire arena after Cena won. First PPV I ordered since WM last year, and it will be the last one I order for quite awhile. Made the decision to not order WM 29. Have zero interest in seeing some douche who has had the most epic push in wrestling history (8 years strong) once again winning that shitty belt. Cena is everything that is wrong with today's product, and he can look in the mirror and know that.

Nice chuckle and grin reading this. I don't remember seeing Cena for a fair 15 minute period.

The worst was seeing Cena winning the second fucking Rumble match and Orton not last to the final 4, i am sick and tired of this shit.
Do you see the irony that you call Punk an indy midget and yet love Jericho? Punk is the same size, actually even a little taller than Jericho. What a fail.

I certainly did. The match itself just had such a good flow to it, but when Cena came out, it was just a reminder that no matter how good that match was up until that point, we all know who's going to win it in the end.

Man WWE PPVs are so much more fun when you have money on them. Thought the finish of the show was really awesome but only because I was invested in who won. Like normally I just wouldn't care who won and all I'd want is a great match. It's tons more fun 100 at stake for Rock to win, especially when they do THAT. Match was good I thought. Ending far eclipsed anything else though. Would I have enjoyed it half as much without money on it? Fuck no. Did I have a blast watching it because of that? Fuck yes. Didn't think Rock looked that bad. Not great but fine for 2nd match in like 8 years I guess. I imagine it's hard to suddenly be working 20 minute matches after doing no matches for so long.

That aside though I don't really care for Rock/Cena again after last year. I guess they could add Punk in and make it a 3 way but I don't think they'll risk a massive buyrate just for that. Cena/Punk can be done anytime too I guess. Probably straight out of Mania where Cena gets the title back. Not sure if they'll have Rock wrestle again before Mania but I guess Punk needs a rematch. Again 3 way would be better so you don't need to have Punk lose to Rock again but again the main objective here is another massive buyrate for Mania. Think Rock/Cena I did their biggest buyrate ever last year so it's hard to argue that Rock/Cena II for the title this year is the wrong decision. From a business standpoint at least. That's really what it's all about right now. Short term strategies to do big numbers. Would Ziggler beating Punk in the summer fresh off a babyface turn be better in the long run for them? Obviously but that's not their way of thinking right now and even if they did that there's no guarantee of it being a success. Rock as champ going into Mania facing Cena is as close to a guarantee of a spike in ratings and buyrates as you'll get. From a smark fan point of view it's frustrating but we're such a small value of their audience compared to casual fans who tune in to see Rock and Cena rather than Punk. They're always gonna cater to the biggest portion of their fanbase and this is what that audience wants.

I think I'd mind less if there was something big to go with it but I'm struggling to see even a possible direction they could go in that would peak my interest now. Only real interest I have in Taker at Mania now is vs Cena. I can't buy into anyone else beating him right now and I'm not sure who else could have an epic Mania style match with Taker at this point either. I guess Lesnar would be big and I'd be interested in it, probably more so than Punk/Taker but I wouldn't be super excited for it like Mania matches in past eras have always made me. Lesnar/HHH seems a lock anyway and likewise with Rock/Cena II, I just have so little interest in that after their first match. No idea where it leaves Punk if they don't do a 3 way for the belt. It'd be a massive middle finger to him to give him some midcard program going into Mania after all of 2012. I guess they could develop The Shield angle and attach him to them properly. Probably will actually as they seem big on them right now. 8 man can kill a lot of birds with one stone in terms of getting them on the card with some purpose. Them 4 facing Ryback/Orton/Sheamus/Jericho could be significant enough for all of them. Maybe swap Ryback for someone who can take the fall if they want to put Ryback over a guy like Show at Mania. Progresses nicely into a Sheamus/Orton feud too when they lose possibly. I hope The Shield don't just win the tag belts at Mania after all this commitment they given to pushing them at a top level. I guess Punk could always face Del Rio but that feels even lower than a multi man with The Shield. Horrible sinking feeling now they could do Miz/Punk. Ugh. Can't see any other direction for Del Rio than Ziggler cashing in after EC and them doing a rematch at Mania. Isn't great for Del Rio to lose so soon but it'd be silly if Ziggler got a title shot while holding the contract.

Rumble match was fun for the first half and then just there for the second half. Jericho return was a great start and got the crowd super hot from the off. Not sure why they didn't do more with Jericho/Ziggler in the match though. Announcers managed to make the fired stip even more stupid than it already was talking about how his contract was terminated 6 months ago but now he's back and then talking about how he took time off to tour with his band. Popped for Goldust. Him and Cody worked really well together and the elimination was great. Would be nice if they actually pull the trigger on a brief program between them two now. Gives Cody a direction at least. Godfather cameo was a well done nostalgia spot. Kofi spot was kinda lame. Yeah I said it. Could tell as soon as he stood around on the apron rather than just getting back in the ring that he was going straight back out. Still hilarious. Couldn't he have just put the board off the table on the floor and walked across that? Thought for sure that's where they were going. Cena's music hits and "there's nobody on their feet" had me in stitches. JBL's almost becoming a parody of himself now on commentary. Josh Matthews burial. Neat. No Shield was odd and blatantly forecast a run in during the main event. Cody told me Hawkins was in the Rumble. What a douche. When did the roster get so big they could leave all the Superstars crew out? The crowd going dead silent after being hot all match once Brodus' music hit was hilarious. Crowd never really got back into it after that. Kane/Bryan spot was neat. I wish Kane had just dropped him flat on his back though. Bo Dallas getting a big rub was odd and kinda wasted on him rather than some of the other NXT guys but at least they're trying. Not quite Maven esque though. Cena/Ryback wasn't any good. Winner was never in question. Besides the obvious direction for Mania there was nobody else in that match who was ever going to win. Ziggler still has MITB, Sheamus and Orton aren't facing Del Rio and Ryback sure as fuck was never going to get that big of a rub. Put him over well during the match though. He's dead once Big E turns. Shame he wasn't in either. Not like an elimination would have hurt him. Oh and I thought Cole was really great calling the ending to the show as a babyface announcer. Made Punk look all the more dastardly. Surprised they didn't have a Cena/Rock staredown to end the show. Hope they don't spend weeks teasing which champ Cena will face.

Tag match was just there. Time to move Bryan on from this now. Rhodes Scholars still can't work a control segment to save their lives.

LMS match was no where near as great as their first one. Expected that though. Table spot I thought was the big and only highlight. Show standing on that thing was a great visual at every stage of the spot. Actively hating the spear through the rail spot now. Every single hardcore match they do. Not a fan of the finish. Seen it before and that should so be a dastardly heel finish and not a babyface finish. Bret/Ricardo thing before was probably the best thing Bret's ever done. Half serious about that too. Ricardo's the best.

80 better off than I was before the show. Fine trade off for a lackluster product.

Overall I felt Royal Rumble was a successful show. I enjoyed every single bout, some weren't up to the standard of others but I still had fun watching them. The main event and actual Rumble match itself were the predictable highlights of the card, with the WWE Title contest especially bringing the excitement and drama. For me it was one of the best all round wrestling PPV's in a while.

Full recap on my blog.
