Re: Top 5 Worst WrestleMania's Of All Time?

Op's list is pretty much close to the truth, for me anyway. I'd swap Mania XII for Mania 2000, the latter might have had a boring ass main event that just never really got going but at least it had a solid undercard. It's funny how my opinion of that card is completely opposite to the op's.

WrestleMania 2000 was a genuine one match show (triple threat ladder tag team title match) because everything else sucked badly.

I've tried to defend the main event in the past but in truth it's an average b-pay per view standard main event at best. The match also lacks drama apart from Foley's return and the shock ending. Having Big Show in the match was a terrible idea even though he was eliminated first, that was some sort of redemption for the WWF bookers to be fair. Foley's previous retirement at No Way Out 2000 killed a lot of interest for his return because it happened far too soon, so it was also a bad idea having him in the match. Mick performed poorly in the match itself. It always should have been The Rock vs Triple H and it's a real shame that we never got this match at a WrestleMania.

The undercard had far too many non singles matches. Tag team matches such as Godfather/D-Lo vs Bossman/Bull Buchanan and T'n'A vs Al Snow/Steve Blackman were pure filler while the hard core battle royal was unentertaining garbage. Even highly anticipated matches such as the Euro-Continental title triple threat match were major disappointments. I still can't figure out how the WWF creative staff and booking committee managed to fuck up the biggest show of the year in what was otherwise widely regarded as one of the greatest annum's in WWE history, creatively and financially. It was an absolute anomaly. It's almost as if the company decided to take the month off, except the promotional department.

As somebody else previously said, Backlash 2000 (still stands up as a classic today) should have happened at Mania 2000 instead.

Still don't know what possessed them to make so many tag team matches in 2000. It was almost like a tag team tournament answer to IV's tournament for the belt. It's the equivalent of 3MB vs. Primo & Epico and The Usos vs. Prime Time Players making the card this year.

Wisely, they let Taker/Shawn close, so at least it closed in a big way.
Really? Time management aside I thought it was one of the better Manias. If you take Bret/Vince out of the equation (it's hard I know), then it's a very enjoyable PPV. OK there's only one classic on the card, but you've got the Legacy triple threat, Punk/Rey, Trips/Sheamus and the two world title matches were all at the very least solid.

Vince must have had a thing for tag matches during that era. Was Teddy Long on the booking commitee at the time or was he with WCW?

I also agree that the card itself was fairly good, HHH/Trips is very enjoyable as is Punk/Rey which probably would have benefited from some extra time to be honest. The triple threat match between Orton/Rhodes/Dibiase is a little underrated by some in my opinion, if anything it suffers from a flat crows that never believed that Orton was losing. I actually really like Batista vs Cena, its a good power match at least. The main event is obviously steller. On the downside you had the Vickie mess while MITB was okay but not a patch on previous versions. I really didn't enjoy Edge/Jericho.

If they had booked Bret vs Vince sensibly by having it as a street fight instead of a "wrestling match" where Bret couldn't take bumps then that match would have been okay. Have Vince attack Bret on the outside for a few minutes before taking him back into the ring where the momentum switches, Hart throws a few punches and kicks the shit out of Vince's back. He then goes for a steel chair nails him with the sharpshooter and bob's your uncle. What happened instead was a "comedy" angle. Get rid of all the other Harts and just have Bret triumph in a brawl, maybe his family could come out afterwards to celebrate.

And what does WM25 on that list?
Most of the matches failed to deliver, like Orton vs. HHH. Edge's clusterfuck WWE and WHC title simultaneous booking before and after Mania sucked too.

Very far from being the worst, but sort of disappointing.

I guess WM26 is similar to WM25 where the event felt average to good, nothing really epic.

Also, here are my top 5 OVERRATED Manias:

1. 17 - Many hail this as the greatest event in pro wrestling history which is an overstatement.

2. 6 - Apart from Hogan vs. Warrior which I think is the best 'showmanship' match in wrestling history (yes, even more entertaining than Taker/HBK), the timing for the other 13 matches were terrible. That's right, this WM has 14 matches crammed into less than 3 hours.

3. 24 - A lot of people praise this Mania for having it all and creating an almost perfect execution for each match. A lot of stuff were very predictable though: Flair losing, Taker winning, and Mayweather winning.

4. 10 - Apart from 2 legendary matches, the undercard sucked big time. (I still believe Lex Luger deserved a short WWF Title reign btw.)

5. 19 - This Mania was oozing with starpower indeed. Some people just think it's better than X-7 which is not true.

WrestleMania 25 to me was pretty horrible but that the only saving grace there was Undertaker vs HBK because if that match wasn't on, then Mania that year would have sucked for sure

I agree 2000 was horrible. Easely in my top 5.
