Re: WrestleMania XXIX Match Card Predictions
I tried to stay true to what WWE is planning. I wanted to try to salvage the card the best way I could. Here’s my attempt….
147 minutes of wrestling. Last year's Wrestlemania had 143 (rounding), so they could pull this off assuming they avoid a Brodus Clay dance off and a pointless concert.
My winners are also in italic
WWE Championship (15 minutes)
John Cena vs. The Rock ©
Match: I don’t think Rock can wrestle for 25 minutes. I rather see an all out slugfest for 15 minutes with Cena getting his win back. I understand why the match is happening. It’s a shadow over Cena’s career (keyfabe) if he doesn’t beat Rock at Mania.
I Quit Match (20 minutes)
Triple H (with Vince McMahon) vs. Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman)
Match: Everyone believes Triple H will get his win back. I understand why, but Brock Lesnar will wrestle more in the next two years than Triple H. Logically, Lesnar should win. Make this a much more back and forth contest, though. Triple H didn’t get much offense in during the Summerslam match. Make him stronger in this match. Have the match end with Vince throwing in the white towel to protect his son-in-law.
World Heavyweight Championship (21 minutes)
Chris Jericho vs. Dolph Ziggler ©
Match: Give these two 20 minutes to work. Ziggler should retain
C.M. Punk vs. The Undertaker (15 minutes)
Match: Punk kicks out of the tombstone, the last ride, and the choke slam. Taker puts him in the Hell’s Gate hold and Punk never taps. He simply passes out from the pain and ref has to call the match, as a result.
Sheamus vs. Mark Henry (7 minutes)
Match: Everybody would expect Henry to put over Sheamus, but I think the latter. John Cena is going to need a fresh feud for when The Rock leaves and I believe there’s money in a Cena/Henry feud.
United States Championship (13 minutes)
Christian vs. Antonio Cesaro ©
Match: A returning Christian challenges for the United States title. Frankly, I’d like to see at least 10-plus minutes from these two.
WWE Tag Team Championship (24 minutes)
Elimination Tables Match
Team Hell No vs. Rey & Sin Cara vs. Rhodes Scholars vs. The Shield (Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins)
Match: Maybe it’s beneath The Shield, but I rather see them highlight their skills in a spot fest than job to Ryback & Sheamus. Finally, have Kane and Bryan implode during the match with Kane putting Bryan through the table. That sets up Roman Reigns coming out and The Shield can powerbomb Kane through the table to win the match. The other two teams are there to take bumps.
Ryback vs. Big Show (6 minutes)
Match: Ryback dominates Show for about five minutes and pickups the victory with the shellshock.
World Heavyweight Championship (2 minutes)
Dolph Ziggler vs. Alberto Del Rio ©
Match: Ziggler wins in your typical cash-in moment, though I suspect the New Jersey crowd would pop heavily. Ziggler is previously booked to face Jericho. In a backstage segment, Booker T crashes Ziggler’s celebration party. He announces that Ziggler will still compete against Jericho, except now it’s for the World Championship.
World Heavyweight Championship (14 minutes)
Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio ©
Match: Have Orton tap out to Del Rio, giving him his biggest win to date. Del Rio goes to shake Orton’s hand and the Viper turns heel laying him out setting up Ziggler.
Intercontinental Championship (10 minutes)
Fatal 4 Way
R-Truth vs. Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz vs. Wade Barrett ©
Match: The Miz seems to be the WWE’s focus and not Kofi. Have him pin R-Truth to give Barrett an out.
