With CM Punk retaining the WWE Championship at Survivor Series on Sunday, thereby likely solidifying his expected match with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at Royal Rumble, the sports-entertainment organization's creative team has discussed a scenario where The Straight Edge Superstar would defeat The Great One at the annual January pay-per-view event. This would subsequently lead to Johnson facing John Cena in a re-match at WrestleMania XXIX, with Punk defending the title against The Undertaker.
Original creative plans called for Johnson to defeat Punk at the Rumble, leading to a match against Cena for the titlewhich could still occur. Creative has given thought to how Johnson winning the WWE Championship would impact the product since there would be no titles defenses at houses shows for over two months, and also add a new issue of whether he would defend the title at the February pay-per-view event, Elimination Chamber. Not awarding Johnson would rectify that problem.
Though the importance of the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Champion has diminished in recent years, one of the primary reasons that creative has yet to unify the belts is because they feel a title match should close all house shows.
Next week they'll have some other reports telling otherwise. Long term booking is kinda lost in WWE. But i'm okay with this Punk should only lose the title on WM against a legend , be it Rock or Undertaker...
They are worried about the title not being defended at house shows yet they are discussing Punk vs Taker for the title? Taker is a part timer as well as Rock for god sake. We all know that Taker would win at Mania if he faced Punk because it would be disastrous if Punk retained against him at Mania breaking the streak.
At least with Rock you get mainstream publicity and attention going into Mania with Rock as champion. Punk? Eh not so much.

Re: Report: WM29 Plans- Cena/Rock and Punk/Taker
I'm not buying this. Rock is gonna win. They COULD swerve everybody and make Punk retain because it's so insanely predictable that Rock is going to beat him, but they won't. Punk holding the title going into WrestleMania is the correct thing to do, it's the best way to end this reign because it's been built up so much, and it solves the problem of having a champion that doesn't work house shows or B PPV's. I wouldn't stop this reign until he gets 500 days, because at that point, it's beyond a milestone.
Punk defending the title against The Undertaker is just not going to happen. They won't give Punk the Streak (I'd like to see that), but giving Taker the title only to have him win and immediately vacate it is a piss poor way to end the most highly promoted WWE title reign of this generation, at least the latter half of it has been, anyway. It's not the way to go.
At this point, I expect these two matches, only with Rock and Cena having the title match, and Punk and Undertaker having the non title match, which I would consider a complete waste. I will NOT accept Punk losing at WrestleMania with no title on the line, that's bullshit.

When WWE was struggling, it's Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart in the main event going 60 minutes, people are leaving during the main event of WrestleMania, you can check the video tape, and Hall and Nash have both told me that Vince said that night, that he would rather have a half full arena cheering for the guy that he says to cheer for, than a full arena cheering for whoever they want.
