Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz

Quote:

The Miz has lit a fire under new Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston, and at WWE Hell in a Cell, he will look to extinguish it. Choosing to invoke his rematch clause on the Oct. 28 pay-per-view, The Awesome One will try to rebound from consecutive losses to Kingston, including losing the Intercontinental Title on the Oct. 17 edition of WWE Main Event.

In dethroning The Miz, The Dreadlocked Dynamo seemingly responded to the smug Triple Crown Champion’s claims that Kingston is a “B player” who will never reach his full potential. On “Miz TV,” The Miz clearly struck a nerve when he referred to Kingston as “just a guy who says ‘Boom! Boom! Boom!’ ” In turn, The Boom Squad General nearly knocked The Miz’s block off twice in a 24-hour period. By unleashing a particularly trenchant Trouble in Paradise on The Awesome One during the Oct. 15 Raw — a clip that will live on forever — the high-energy but easygoing Kingston showed a level of aggression that sometimes eludes him.

Though the gash over The Awesome One’s right eye will be long gone by the time he and Kingston lock up on the Oct. 28, the kick that caused the contusion will still be fresh in The Miz’s mind. (WATCH) Fresher, still, will be the memory of The Boom Squad General dethroning The Miz as Intercontinental Champion two days later on WWE Main Event. (WATCH)

The circumstances surrounding the title rematch, however, will be far different from those that enveloped their two previous encounters.

First off, unlike their impromptu collision on Oct. 15, which stemmed from a challenge that Kingston issued earlier that night on “Miz TV,” The Miz has plenty of time to prepare for their Oct. 28 showdown. Second, in contrast to their WWE Main Event title match, which took place less than 48 hours after Kingston delivered his memorably vigorous kick, The Awesome One’s health will presumably be much closer to 100 percent at WWE Hell in a Cell.

Moreover, is it possible that the consecutive losses to Kingston have actually informed The Miz’s game plan for Oct. 28? Might he be heading into that contest a smarter, more sentient competitor, thanks to his recent experiences against Kingston?

The newly crowned Intercontinental Champion, on the other hand, is riding high going into his first pay-per-view title defense. After months in a WWE Tag Team Championship duo with R-Truth, Kingston has refocused his attention to singles competition, and it has not taken him long to accumulate what is now his fourth reign with the Intercontinental Title. With his potential in the singles ranks seemingly unlimited, will The Dreadlocked Dynamo allow a rematch with The Miz to stall his progress?

Regardless of the outcome, the WWE Universe excitedly waits to see the most heated chapter yet in this rapidly escalating rivalry. What started out as a perceived snub of The Miz by Larry King on Raw has quickly morphed into one of the most thrilling matchups in all of WWE. At WWE Hell in a Cell, live on pay-per-view Oct. 28 at 8 ET/5 PT, the Boom Squad and the Mizfits will bear witness to an all-important third match in this riveting series. (HOW TO WATCH)

BORING. Kofi in midcard title matches doesn't excite me anymore. Give the guy a new gimmick.

I'd have liked a Kofi turn, siding with Miz that being the 'novelty act' got him nowhere and eventually took the title at a later point.

Why does everyone insit kofi should turn heel? He is a good face and needs to stay one. He is over with the crowd and is likeable. Anyone I have liked this feud so far and they had a good match on main event so looking forward to this. Hopefully they give kofi some story lines this time and start to push him up the card

Damn another mid card title win to Kofi's name? Dude really needs to change it up a bit, but only when the time is right, so that it doesn't tarnish his on screen career.

Could be a good match. I liked the one from Main Event.

I agree. He doesn't need to turn heel and he still over with the crowd; especially lately

I'm hoping they book Kofi as a strong champion. He has a lot of momentum right now. They crowd is really starting to get behind him again like they did in 09. He has the charisma so if they push him right he can be one of the most over guys on the roster. He has impressed me with how comfortable he is on the mic in this feud with Miz.

Feud is good do far, though I personally would have waited longer before giving Kofi the IC Title. The interesting bit is every time Miz tries to say Kofi is an after-thought the crowd suddenly remember "oh yeah, we like this guy, we don't cheer for him enough he deserves it" which creates a very nice dynamic I think.

They can put on a good match though I imagine Kofi will retain for the sake of keeping the IC relevant (Christian and Miz had medium length reigns, if not very ones), honestly I'd have him keep it till WM maybe to build up the prestige then have him drop it to an up and commer like Sandow. Kofi would be more then capable of becoming a strong champion and having a good reign if given the chance, this current feud seems enough proof.

Re: Spoiler From SD - New Title Match Set

Utterly pointless. Why couldn't they of had Miz keep the title until Hell in a Cell where he loses to Kofi? That would of been better for Kofi and the IC Title that a title was won on a PPV instead of on a show that nobody watches. Whatever.
