Re: Will the cell be "invisible again"

People talk about this PPV possible being worst HIAC matches....nothing can beat Taker-Bossman for worst HIAC match.

It was during ATTITUDE ERA and fans were chanting BORING

Re: Will the cell be "invisible again"

Hmm, no one had a problem with Taker and HHH barely using the cell.

So far the only good HIAC match I've seen since the move to PG was Edge/Taker but then again that was during the beginning phase of PG and it wasn't that restricting. I still remember there was a first blood match sometime on RAW during '08. I believe it was Regal/HHH, not too sure but there was a brutal first blood match on RAW during the early days of PG. Heck even in 2009 there was still boood. Orton vs Shane No Way 2009.

The PG didn't really start to restrict blood and overall tone of violence until after Wrestlemania.

Re: Will the cell be "invisible again"

I'm hoping that they'll go old-school with this one and get up on the roof of the cell. If they can't risk Cena or Punk taking the big bump, give the spill to Foley. I love him, but that dude is so deperate for attention that he'd fling himself into the Great Pit of Carkoon if it would get him on TV. I'm calling it right now; Foley takes the big spill, a concerned Cena is distracted just long enough for Punk to knock him out and get the pin from a second referee.

Re: Will the cell be "invisible again"

I think a lot of people have mis-understood what a Hell in a Cell is. It's a cage which is made to keep everybody out and not a cage which is made to use as a weapon. It takes away the effectiveness of the cell if it's used every single match as a weapon. WWE are doing a good job of limiting the cell use. Whilst at the same time the cell is successfully carrying out it's primary objective which is to keep 2 guys in the ring with each other to see who the better man really is.

WWE are hurting their own concept though because they don't really build the matches up correctly, so it leads the fans to just think of it for it's brutal side which is making the cell match pointless and the matches might as well just be changed to no holds barred if you want inanimate objects to use as weapons.

I get what you're saying but the thing is, the very first HIAC match featured the competitors going outside of the cell and then Foley/Taker really 'stepped it up', so the fans just kind of expect these things from this type of match. From the very beginning we were programmed to expect wrestlers going outside and on top of the cell.

The way this match is supposed to be done is on the inside. There's a reason the gate's locked, to keep them in. The problem with that is that they avoid use of the cell. Here's where I'm going to get hated but HHH/Taker was your typical PG environment HIAC match. A few bumps on the outside and everything else took place in the ring.

But the HIAC is a really strange concept. Yes, it was designed to lock two competitors inside so that they could just kill one another but isn't that also the purpose of the cage match? But then again WWE Had to butcher that match and add the escape stipulation. Not to mention how ridiculously tall they've made the structure so they could pop the crowd with a high spot. The HIAC is no different. It's supposed to lock two guys in but at the same time they tweak it so they could pop the crowd via high spots i.e. breaking down the walls, climbing on top.

This I agree with completely. The only match that should be HIAC is Punk/Cena. I really hope Sheamus/Show isn't.

Well when the cell was first invented it was just a one off. They made the cell so that they had a solid structure to put HBK into where he had nowhere to hide from the Undertaker and so that Rude, HHH and Chyna couldn't get involved in the match, nor could the Hart Foundation. Then as the match got closer and they were putting it together they decided it would be cool if they somehow got out of the cell before being locked back into it. It showed the audience that there's no way that they're getting out again and that the structure was secure for the rest of the match. Then when Kane came down and ripped the door off it's hinges he just looked incredible and it was integral to the storyline because as soon as Kane got in the ring you feared for the Undertaker.

Afterwards the HIAC proved to be such a success that they decided to add it to their arsenal of matches. Of course in subsequent matches there have been similar instances where the cell was breached and used for other means than as just a cell but the thing is that they should be the rarity. If you leave the cell in every match then it's boring and we'd be asking "what are they going to do differently this time" same with if they always use it as a weapon or always broke it. With WWE going through it's toned down violence phase, it's a great time for them to re-establish the HIAC for what it's supposed to be, 2 guys trapped in together. Then in a couple of years when they do another high spot with the cell it will be insanely because nothing like that would have been seen for years.

Just dont treat it like it isnt even there,I hate it when commentators say "What a gruling hell in a cell match" as if it was abused to the death

Thoughts?

Re: Will the cell be "invisible" again

I have no doubt with Punk involved they will use the Cell. He'll put his body on the line to entertain the fans, just means if he does go up against Cena, he'll be taking most of the damage and Cena will dominate, which is usually unlikely in Cena matches. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens!
