Initial Summerslam Buyrate

"Brock Lesnar looks to have earned himself his contract and gotten a good shot at a renewal.

Going into SummerSlam, the idea was that the show was going to either sink-or-swim based on the Lesnar vs. HHH main event. The show was an overwhelming success, doing 350,000 worldwide buys, broken down as 264,000 North American and only 86,000 international. It was the most successful SummerSlam show since 2008.

The North America vs. international split, with 75% of the buys coming from North America is a second indication that it was Lesnar as the reason. Lesnarís main drawing power from his UFC days was gigantic in the U.S. and Canada, but little international, since UFC has never done strong PPV business (or even done much PPV) outside of North America except for Australia and that came toward the end of Lesnarís UFC tenure.

Itís shocking that the July PPV headlined by the two Money in the Bank matches and C.M. Punk vs. Daniel Bryan did 88,000 buys outside of North America, which makes no sense for it to even be in the same ballpark as SummerSlam. Yet, SummerSlam from the domestic standpoint beat it by 264,000 to 108,000.

For a comparison, in 2011, SummerSlam did 180,000 North American buys and 131,000 international for 311,000. In 2010, the numbers were 209,000 in North America and 140,000 international for 349,000. In 2009, the numbers were 229,000 in North America and 140,000 international. In 2008, the show did 329,000 buys in North America and 148,000 international. The 2008 show was Undertaker vs. Edge in a Hell in a Cell match and Batista vs. John Cena as the top two matches, plus HHH vs. Great Khali for the WWE title, C.M. Punk vs. JBL for the World title and Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry for the ECW title.

This continues the trend of WWE being well ahead of last year in almost every show, but greatly so on shows that have Lesnar and The Rock involved.

For a show comparison, last year had C.M. Punk winning the WWE title from John Cena with HHH as referee and Randy Orton beating Christian to win the World title in what was really just a two match marquee card, and it was really all built around Punk vs. Cena.

This yearís version was the Lesnar vs. HHH show as far as a difference making match, but also had Punk retaining the WWE title over Cena and Big Show, Sheamus retaining the World title over Alberto Del Rio and Chris Jericho vs. Dolph Ziggler as the major matches."

DAT MEGASTAR.

Hope they don't waste Brock's Mania match on Hunter again, a match with Mayweather or Taker would break the fucking richter scale. Can't imagine what buyrate a card with Brock, Taker, Cena, Rock, HHH, and Mayweather (maybe) does.

And he drew in buy-rates for Extreme Rules as well.

Brock Lesnar is the man

The Master of the BrockTagon, the new King of Kings, Megastar - BBRRRROOOOCCCKKKKK LLLLLEEEEEESSSSSNNNNAARRRR. Just imagine what would happen if he beat Cena clean and then maximizing his worth in the ultimate Rock/Brock at WM29.

From the market in 2012, this is a decent number.

Both PPVs he's been in this year have done great numbers. Do not waste Brock on Triple H at WrestleMania. You need to go in with Lesnar/Taker, plus the WWE Championship match as the top two matches. That'll garner huge numbers.

Great result. Brock proving his worth, aswell as Triple H. The two had a nice feud and setup for a dream matchup which delivered.

Imagine if he made Cena tap out at ER, after beating him to a pulp. Walks away laughing dusting off his shoulder(unhurt). Jesus.

Yes, the real kicker that must be addressed is if they were not fucking stupid enough to have Cena win that match. The international number wouldn't have been so low, because that market would've fully believed that Brock was THE fucking monster instead of another Cena opponent of the month (since they weren't familiar with Brock). Also, would've helped his aura in the domestic side a little bit (which wasn't hurt as much, because everyone knew in real life Brock would massacre Cena).

I'll say it like I said the Raw after WM 28. They would be absolute morons not to have Brock vs Rock as the headline match for the WWE title at WM 29. Rock the movie star is a massive draw in the international markets, and Brock is a massive draw in the domestic market. You will never, ever have the opportunity to put two unique wrestlers together with Brock being a former UFC champion and Rock being a big movie star. Fuck the lockerroom: without Brock at Summerslam to literally carry the domestic buy, this card would've done dangerously bad numbers. It was ultimately a 1 match card in terms of drawing.

LOOK AT DEM MITB BUYS! PUNK'S AN INTERNATIONAL STAR!!! 8*D

But seriously, great news for SS. What's really cool though is if the downward trend continued and SS this year would've lost 30,000 buys from last year then Brock's impact on the PPV brought in nearly 70,000 buys (for an exact number, 350,000-281,000=69,000), which is about $3,000,000 more in revenue from the year before. (Feel free to correct me, I hate and suck at math/business terms). Brock's paying for himself at this rate.

International is down though a fair bit, but domestic shot through the roof, shattering the 2011 (Punk/Cena, Orton/Christian), 2010 (Nexus/Team WWE), and 2009 (Orton/Cena, Punk/Hardy, DX/Legacy) numbers.

Lesnar's a drawing machine. Him and Taker at Mania plus Rock/Cena II could produce another huge WM number like this year's.

Predicted 370k which included them making Brock look like a bitch with the angle they did.

Guess they lost around ~20k buys because of that stupid shit

@Obis

Where did you get the 281 number from?
Not all those buys are from Lesnar. If you look at extreme rules it seems Lesnar adds about 30k+ buys, no difference I see here, if anything he underperformed considering it was an A show(I blame the angle).

Also they do not get all the money from each buy, 50%+ goes to the cable/satellite provider.
