Is WrestleMania possibly the most underwhelming PPV of the year
Maybe I just have high expectation about this but I think Wrestlmania is probably the most underwhelming ppv of the year. It's the biggest PPV of the year, the granddaddy of them all and understandably there is a lot of high expectations and emphasis on the ppv. But, I feel Wrestlmania is a usually a hit and miss as far as booking and quality go. Take Wrestlmania 27 for instance. You had a dreadful main event, a lot of the feuds going into the PPV from what I can remember were lackluster. I think the only ones that I had a lot of high hope for were Undertaker/HHH and CM Punk/Randy Orton, and those were the only two matches on that ppv that I really enjoyed. I certainly wasn't compelled to buy the ppv when it came out on DVD. Wrestlmania 28 was pretty much the same I felt too. Rock/Cena was pretty average if not below average. Punk/Jericho I think could have been better, you also had Bryan losing in 18 seconds, which I guess was a good thing ultimately since it gave birth to his character, but the match sucked anyway. The only noteworthy match for me again was Undertaker/Triple H HIAC. It's not just recent Wrestlmanias that i'm talking about either. Wrestlmaina 2000 to me was pretty underwhelming too, the main event was alright but I've always maintained it should have been Rock Vs Triple H instead of the fatal fourway, and apart from the triangle ladder match which stole the show there wasn't anything memorable about the ppv. There are other Wrestlmainas in the 20's and 90's that were underwhelming too but i'll move on.
Getting back on topic, I feel Wrestlmania as big as it is, is probably the most under whelming ppv. I mean when you consider ppvs like Royal Rumble for instance which is my favorite ppv of the year. You have a really exciting and hyped up ppv, because it's that time of the year where you're hoping and praying your favorite wins the Rumble, or wondering who will win the Rumble. The matches themselves tend to be quite alright, (except for this year's Royal Rumble), and overall it's just a fun ppv to watch because it's all about the battle royal really. I feel Mania fails because there is too much over planning and stress involved. They want to put out the best show that year, but I think it's constantly edited and watered down and just ends up being a big clusterfuck. That's my opinion on what happened with Mania 27 anyway.
