I don't get how you can be happy that they didn't have Punk getting a DQ victory in that situation as that's the only outcome that makes sense with that stipulation. As it was now Punk was basically playing the role of a face as he "won" cleanly, despite having an easy chance to win dirty, but the ref was out so he got screwed.

I think that the logical way to not want the DQ win is to not have that stipulation going. It makes no sense whatsoever to have that stipulation and the heel not even trying to take proper advantage of it.

It didn't even do anything to make The Rock get a greater victory either. If Punk had tried to have people attack him and The Rock had constantly managed to attack them before they could do anything it would have been a little heroic (although it's easy to do it so Rock doesn't have a chance to prevent it). Now he's just kind of an illegitimate champ.

The reason why I'm happy is that I don't want Rock's title reign to end by a DQ decision and it doesn't make sense to take the belt off Punk for 3 weeks only to give it back to him. I guess these stipulations will only make sense if they come into play (i.e. like Christian - Orton) but if they don't, then it just allows the heel to play mind games and do things that will piss the face off (like Punk did yesterday).

I agree that it wouldn't have made any sense for Punk to become champ again at this point. My point is just that the stipulation is far too easy to exploit so it makes no sense if the DQ part doesn't come into play. The counted out bit is one thing that's usable because that's not an automatic win but to have another part that's extremely easy to exploit to win the biggest prize in wrestling forces you to use it in terms of writing a logical story.

They should at the very least have had Punk use the DQ stipulation but get swerved by Vince again, but the real solution would have been to just not have it in the first place.

Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread

Think that the rock did actually put punk over a bit in this as punk had him pinned. If it had been the other way round all the rocks fans would have complained. The rocks basically been booked as unbeatable so punk kicking his ass and pinning him did put punk over.

The rock returning has messed everything up really as he's not championship material as he can't wrestle and we know when he will drop the title. Unless he is going to be Hercules the WWE champion i really don't see the point of this from a fans perspective. I liked the rock before this current run, but not being
In the title picture would have been so much better

I would suggest the ending was written like that for one reason, to continue the feud.

The whole 'punk won and got screwed' angle will now carry to mania, I can think of no other reason for it.

If so I'm happy, a triple threat is better than Cena/Rock II by themselves, given how hopeless that turned out in the promo stakes.

Although if they really want punk as the top heel in the entire industry, rock should drop to him at mania, via a dirty win , with cena nowhere near the match.

Id enjoy that , I wont enjoy cena getting the win, because he gains nothing from it.

Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread

Miles above the Rumble match. The whole story of Punk trying to get Rock to get DQ'd or counted out really helped out this match a lot. The ending was a bit all over the place though.
