It was a total bust and could have been so much more had The Rock got into ring shape.

Sure, he can look strong all he wants, when it comes down to it its going to ruin the fans enjoyment of the match. And hell, he's had about what, 3 matches already? I understand he hasn't been wrestling in a long time, but you would think he would at least try to work on his cardio so it's not another disaster like the Rumble match.
It's the bulk I think that's hindering him. Rock has always been a great seller and you can see some of that in his matches with Cena and Punk but you can definitely notice his conditioning and cardio isn't on the same level in the ring. It's somewhat understandable since he is older, has suffered injures, and really hasn't wrestled much but I don't think any fan wants to notice that he is breathing heavily because that can affect the pacing of the match, I agree. I personally think Rock should work more on cardio and continue to train for matches because he's obviously not about to take on a full-time wrestling schedule to get into top ring shape and he will not cut that much muscle because it's his look for the films.

I know it's understandable, and I agree. I'm just saying that if he knows he'll be working more matches, you would think he would at least work on his cardio more instead of bulking up for his movies. When he's noticeably gassed and laying around it takes away from the match IMO. If definitely did for the match at Rumble.

You all may make fun of people with "IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMN IT!" for the young kids or marks or whatever, but you guys are even worse than them. You have this deep-seeded legitimate rage for Cena and his fans to the point where you let it affect your day to day life.

Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread

Ofcourse Rock is not in a wrestling shape and I dont blame him, his bulky look is important for his movie career. Its understandable if he cant work on his cardio/stamina due to his hectic schedule. I am just thankful we are seeing The Rock in the ring at all.

Definitely agree with you itssoeasy23. Remember when HHH came back in 2002 all jacked up after that injury and it took effect on his performances and he even suffered more injures sporadically during that initial return run. Getting in wrestling shape at easy. You have your guys that are built for show then there's the workhorses out there built to go.

Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread

Rock is not 2002 ring shape(Punk himself is not close to Rock's shape at his peak as a worker), that's obvious and understandable because he's a decade older and not wrestling full time. It still doesn't affect his matches either way, especially the Punk match because of the background with the Shield attack. Both matches have been great, got great reviews from every type of fanbase and people enjoyed them which is what's really important. Take it in perspective, Rock put on over 50 minutes of work in two matches after over a decade, that's ridiculous. Breathing heavily was always part of Rock's selling BTW, especially if it's on the ribs.

I just hope that Rock is able to work a better match tonight than he had at the Royal Rumble. Because if he' laying around again and is noticeably out of breath, it takes away from the match. Sure, it's cool to see him wrestling and all, but I just wish he was in much better in ring shape.

I do though think it's because he hasn't worked a lot of matches the course of the last decade. Mixed with his size and schedule, I think it does hinder his in-ring work. Sure, he may be big, but Cena is about the same size and he hardly breaks a sweat after a 25 minute match. I think's it's a combination of things; size, schedule, and obvious ring rust.

I understand your a big Rock mark. And you may not think his size hinders his in-ring work. But I think it does. And IMO, it took away from the Punk/Rock match at RR. It wasn't just the heavy breathy, he was obviously slower and less fluid than before. It's obvious it's because of his size and lack of wrestling over the last decade, but it's noticeable and that's the problem.
