It was a good match, but Cena/Rock > this match.

So far it really isnt all that great of a feud, I expected a whole lot better promos from these two.

Punk has carried this feud promo wise. Hell, he carried it in the ring too. Rock is not in step like the old days. And using his moms cancer? That was pathetic. Rock completely no sold Punk in that promo. NO ONE thought Punk was gonna win after that promo. Rock removed all doubt, that was a bullshit move. If Punk or especially Cena had done it, they would be shit on. But no, Rock marks say its one of the best babyface promos ever. BS.

Who in their right mind said that? It was decent but it wasn't all that. Certainly not one of his best but I liked the inspiration in the message. He did seem pretty fired up! I didn't mind him mentioning his mother because that must have been very important to him with her, his daughter, and other family sitting at ringside. Just another aspect of the hero's story to tell. A lot a people don't like to hear those type of stories because to some it comes off as preachy but I can see a lot of people buying into it if not relating to it.

I think if you remove the finish from discussion, from a pure inring standpoint, Rock/Punk absolutely annihilated Cena/Rock, because Cena/Rock was as predictable as you could expect, and Punk/Rock was innovative and had a mixed crowd.

A few on here, a few on other forums. Not the majority opinion, but it was said. Mostly just marks who overexaggerate everything Rock does. But like I said, he made it painfully obvious if he was gonna win after that promo, it was a selfish move.

Agreed. When he mentioned his mom having cancer it reminded of the same type of pandering that Cena did in his feud with the Rock, but with his brother, to try and get full crowd support.

I'm willing to bet there was "CM Punk" chants early in the night before the ppv began, and Rock slipped that bit into his promo to try and avoid a mixed crowd in his match. The pandering line almost worked to, but it was still 60/40 most of the match until the end.

Tons of peeps who arent really Punk fans who use to be Rock fans supported Punk winning cuz he was a full timer and felt it was wrong for a part timer to end his title run. Peeps on here brag about the crowd reaction like its the Rock at his peak or something. Hes still far more popular than everyone on the roster but lets not kid ourselves his popularity has fallen super duper since he left in 2004 and even more since his return to WWE.

I don't think it's fallen much if at all. The tv crowds don't give him the reactions he used to get because the crowds today suck, but at ppvs they come alive. But I wouldn't judge his popularity based on crowd reception. I would judge it based on merch sales, ratings, and buyrates, of which Rock is tops in every category. I think the crowd being mixed at RR had more to do with ppv crowds usually being full of diehard fans who absolutely adore Punk.
