Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
The problem with Cena/Rock isn't just so much that it's OMG CENA SUCKZ!!!! It's simply this:
1. The match was already done last year as 'once in a lifetime thing'.
2. Rock wrestles a limited schedule. If you ignore the fact that this makes the WM main event completely predictable, it's ALSO bad for shows because the WWE champion won't be wrestling very often.
3. Face vs face is difficult to pull off, and most of the promos they could have done were already done last year.
4. There's little to no build up for another Cena/Rock feud. Sure they're having a WM return match, but the two have barely interacted over the last year. Punk and Cena have a lot of recent history. It would have been better for Cena to face Punk at WM and potentially be the one to end the long reign. Giving the rub to Rock does nothing (it doesn't do much for Cena either who is already hall of fame level, but at least he wrestles full time).
The one positive for WWE is that it will sell in the short term. Which is fine, but time and time again WWE creative has gone for the 'safe' route. They've done little to invest in new stars and keep re-signing nostalgia acts.
