WWE News: What happened with The Rock after the Royal Rumble ended?

Dot Net Member Efren sent the following recap of what happened after the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view concluded.

The Rock said Mike Chioda told him he needed to position himself to get the WrestleMania sign in for the shot. "Excuse me, but I'm talking to Phoenix," Rock said. The crowd went ballistic.

Rock thanked the Superstars because it takes one hell of an effort to put on a night like tonight. Rock thanked his family and from the bottom of his heart. He thanked the fans. "It feels good to do this again and be WWE Champion... if you smell what the Rock is cooking."

The Rock heaved the microphone to Justin Roberts, who barely clutched it like a vase. Rock autographed his No. 94 Johnson jersey for a fan and left.

But boy oh boy, WWE loves to prove me wrong, doesn't it? It was extremely simple on how to end this. Either have Lesnar cost Rock the match, not in that darkness bullshit, but in plain sight after a ref bump, or have Rock pin Punk clean in the middle of the ring. There was no need for this controversial shit they did. First off it makes Rock look weak that even a minute after he was attacked, he still couldn't kick out at 3, and Punk gets beaten fairly easily and has his reign ended in unspectacular fashion with ONE people's elbow, and a Rock Bottom earlier granted, but still kinda silly for a man who's taken two AA's and two pedigrees and still kicked out. They could've at least had Punk kick out of the People's Elbow and then after a few reversals fall prey to the Rock Bottom to lose the title, but instead they go for the weakest shit they could think of.

This, it wasn't that Punk lost or Rock won, it was the way the match ended which disappointed me. They could have ended it with 2 or 3 Rock Bottoms, then the people's elbow.

Rock was gassed after 5 minutes as per the Cena fight.

Match started ok but didn't really seem to go anywhere. Ending sucked and Punk looked weak as fuck.

Punk took 1 Rock Bottom, Shield attacked Rock and Punk pinned him. Got restarted, Rock hit the People's Elbow and 1,2,3 Rock Wins.

Still think the match should've happened at Wrestlemania but whatever. Decent match but the ending wasn't all that surprising. Elimination Chamber is gonna be interesting. Probably gonna be Rock defending in the chamber and Cena facing off against Ziggler. Can't see them sticking Cena in the chamber now that he's won the Rumble.

It was a shitty PPV overall imo until the last 2 minutes of the Rock match (after the match was restarted (basically as soon as The Rock started going on offense). But that match and fued was billed so vastly in favor of putting Punk over that the payoff wasn't even exciting because of it. It was just like oh okay, great, but I wish they booked that a hell of a lot better and differently than they did.

Outcome: good.

Practically the entire build and most of the match: Shit, because it was too focused on putting Punk over.

Entertainment value was really lacking because of it. Match was like 85-90% Punk offense. Awful. After the incredibly boring 400+ day CM Punk title reign, I wanted to see him get his ass kicked when he lost the title. Instead, they spent most of the fued putting him over. VERY shitty and disappointing payoff. His reign absolutely should not have been remotely as close to as long as it was if this was all they were ever going to do at the end of it. Such an epic waste of time and resources.



We already just witnessed one of the worst.

BS. Good match with the right result. CM Punk's title reign was just a gimmick. Nothing more.

Why? He's not a Brock Lesnar heel. He's not even a Flair heel. Ryback had him beat every single month..especially at the TLC match. He's been keeping that belt because of others for 4 months.

Rock's wrestling career ended ten years ago, when he left for Hollywood - and judging by his return matches, it probably should've stayed that way. He simply doesn't have it anymore... and he was never that good in the ring, to begin with.
