I think the main reason for why Punk has caught up so rapidly, is people trying to convince themselves, that him winning means that we might get something different to Rock V Cena II.

What do people think the chances are of Punk getting a one-on-one rematch if he loses at the RUMBLE? Does he use his re-match clause on Raw or wait until Mania to inject himself into Cena/Rock?

Neither? Probably.
My guess is they will either count Punk's entry into the Elimination Chamber Match as his "rematch" for the WWE Championship, or they do Rock/Punk II at the Elimination Chamber PPV.

Yeah, I was thinking they'll probably just stick Punk in the Chamber and call that his rematch.

EC could be a really fun card with Punk/Rock II and a couple of Chambers.
