Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
I think the boat for John Cena megastardom has long sailed. He will never be any bigger than he already is.

I don't think either of them have a problem with him being the top guy. Whether they prefer him to Punk or vice versa I don't really know but if I had to guess I wouldn't say so. Just my 2 cents.

Well I'm not saying they have a problem with Cena being the top guy anymore, just that I could see why they would rather Punk have the record breaking reign over the 'Reign of Doom', or whatever they're calling it these days.

Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
@K.W.H well look at it this way what has cena done or what can he do that the holy trinity didn't, the only thing i can think of is the rapper gimmick which could have been megastar level if they played it right but i guess that ship has sailed a long time like you said.
EDIT: according to some guy it's called the 400 day snooze fest...

Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
I stopped watching after WM 22 and didn't watch again until Punk turned heel in the summer of '09, so I missed that whole reign. From what I've read, I did not miss all that much.

Nobody could touch those three and the only one that can even try to match them will still fall short of them.
Cena's heel turn can be huge if WWE plans it perfectly. But Cena ain't going to start another boom period. It may turn out to be more entertaining for a while before WWE screws it up.

that's the problem...The wwe will screw everything up, cena heel turn could be great for 1 year at the most then it will all get screwed up, but there is a small chance in him becoming a megastar if he turns... or that's at least what I think.

WWE still have the ace in the hole of a John Cena heel turn if they ever decide to make it happen. It could be a legitimate game changer for the entire company if they do it right and catapult the next big babyface star into megastardom by putting him over heel Cena. It could be that or it could just be a HUGE moment that doesn't really change anything. We won't know until it happens. I tend to side with the former tbh. I think that a heel Cena changes everything. It creates a spot for a new top babyface star and a medium in which to put over a lot of new guys as babyfaces as they go over a strong and credible heel a la Triple H from 03 - 06. I don't know if that will make him any bigger than what he already is but it is possible.

Who knows lol. I think Punk's reign has lasted so long because there is literally nobody else who can really hold it right now. None of the guys he faced were ever going to take it off him so they just kept it on him and decided to run with it. That's just my own personal opinion though.

Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
Rock/Punk isn't the main event so it means Rock's not gonna win but that also means Cena won't win because majority of fans in the arena would not wanna want Cena to win and WWE has to send fans home happy. So if they are making Rock lose then they have to give some happier result at the Rumble match.
So be happy its not gonna be Rock/Cena at WM,it'll either be Rock/Punk or Rock/Lesnar.

Let's be honest-He didn't change the way the industry was going to be run but on a personal level,he has propelled himself ahead of guys like Orton.

NWO SCSA & Rock are the only ones who come to mind when it comes to revolutionizing the business, they thought Cena would but that turned out to be false. Punk pushed himself ahead of Orton and deservedly so since they can't count on that idiot to stay clean, but imo the WWE will not have another boom period until they refresh the triade of this era.
Golden Era = Hogan Andre Savage
New Generation = HBK Bret Hart Undertaker
Attitude Era = Stone Cold Rock Triple H
Ruthless Aggression Era = Brock Angle Triple H
PG/Reality Era = Cena Punk Orton
This current era is a chore to watch whereas the aforementioned eras were must watch television. I respect Punk because he actually learned how to be a professional wrestler and not a guy watched wrestling and wound up becoming a wrestler(Cena).

I've read people compare a Cena heel turn to the Andre turn. Not sure it would be that huge, but personally if Cena was gonna turn heel, doing it with Rock at Mania is the time. It gives Cena a whole year to build heel heat have the best possible year before facing Taker at 30.

Cody Rhodes was being groomed as the longest reigning IC Champ it seemed, with wwe.com counting the days of his reign. Then suddenly it ended and 3 months later Punk puts Rock on his ass. I think a lack of real competition made it a little easier to keep him champ, but mostly it was due to building him up for The Rock. I think having Rhodes and Punk both with record breaking reigns in the same year would have been a bit much, so obviously Punk is gonna get it instead of Cody.
