It was booked that way before their first promo because the reason Punk is even holding the title right now is that they booked the Rock/Rumble match in July. Any other situation and Ryback/Cena are winning it months ago.
Classic.
Punk needs to win. WWE need to have Punk win. They still only have 1 full time major star in Cena. That will be so apparent after mania if they don't do the right things now with Punk, and make the guy a star.
Whether you like him are not, Punk is the closest they have right now to taking that next step. He needs to go over Rock ( obviously not clean ) ,and be featured in a huge a match at mania. I reckon Rock will realise he doesn't need this win, and do the right thing by putting Punk over.

Wasn't the last 14 months enough?
This guy has gotten the type of push nobody else had ever received outside of Cena and it only had the opposite effect of driving potential and current fans away in a massive exodus.
Just accept the fact that nobody finds him interesting and believable as a WWE champion.
Enough is enough and it's time to end this torture NOW.

I have heard people talk about a Rock/Cena/Punk triple threat scenario but if Rock's in a title match at Mania he might as well go in as champion if that's the case.
I don't mind Rock winning the title but if I had to choose between him and Taker, then Taker would be my choice. Punk/Taker in a Streak vs. Title Match would be huge.
Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
Rock already put Punk over huge by giving him the longest title run in a long time, as well as selling him as a threat. Royal Rumble is Rock's show, built around him completing what he started the night after WM28 in Miami and he's going over. Along with that, he's giving Punk a once in a lifetime opportunity to have the biggest match of his life and finish his title run at the peak of it. Or maybe people wanted to see Ryback and Cena ending it on a B PPV instead of a huge match against The Rock. Because if Rock is not booking Punk against him in July 2012, that's exactly what would have happened.

I do agree with 316AE here, Punk has probably benefited from Rock these last two weeks then he has from the entire Summer of Cena and Ryback, the brawl, the two promos, they both look like a million bucks. As underwhelming as Monday's segment was, I particularly enjoyed the remark "You aint God."

Rock facing punk cause he is holding the WWE title, not cause he is best in the world
I can agree on the part that he is a good wrestler and he can cut a good promo(only when he is whining) but I dont think that makes me a hater
