Take the hate aside for a moment and think about this.
Every wrestler has their style. CM Punk has his style. The Rock has his. Every wrestler has "catchphrases." Punk has his "pipe bomb" and being the "voice of the voiceless." The Rock has his numerous catchphrases that I don't have to even mention cause they're that known.
It comes down to preference: Punk insults the crowd and has a shooting style with "snarky" comments geared towards the "anti establishment." Basically Punk says the same thing every promo in a different way. Those who love anti establishment and punk in general will love it. EVeryone goes against the mainstream, it's the "cool" thing to do, period. Those who don't like him will say he's a hypocritical pipsqueak who only relies on shoot promos to get over and is basically a one promo wonder referring to June 2011.
The Rock: The Rock's character is a bully, period. He's an egotistical bully who has it all: money, looks, charisma, and hes so cocky and obnoxious that he calls himself the people's champion and speaks in the third person, even when he was a heel and people booed the hell outta him. Difference his, his delivery and completely unmatched crowd control skills got him over with the crowd, even when he was a heel. His promo style leans on catchphrases and put down via comedy. The Rock has been dissed for his catchphrases since 99, yet what do ya know; they're about as mainstream as mainstream can get. He talks about sticking objects up asses, has said absurd phrases such as "SHUT UP JUICE," shit that is just so corny, but at the same time hilarious because of his delivery, charisma, ability to garner crowd control and to his doubters, yes, great, that's GREAT mic skills. People who don't like him just say he relies on corny jokes and catchphrases. When his obnoxious self loving character gets serious, he can drive up a promo as well as anyone in wrestling history. Hence why in the last minute in the rock's promo he put over punk better than Cena, Ryback, HHH, Nash, anyone else could do in the past 2 years, simply based on the Rock's star power and charisma (that's a good thing IWC, not a bad thing).
The potential of this feud is off the charts. In my opinion it started off so well that I wish this was happening at Wrestlemania and not the Royal Rumble. THIS is the feud that WWE needs to launch Punk onto that other level that PUNK STILL ISN'T ON DESPITE BEING A CHAMPION FOR OVER A YEAR. And the Rock is the perfect person to do it. I bet if Rock was asked to put over punk he'd gladly do it in a second, but the boss will most likely put the strap on Rock cause the Rock is a mainstream figure.
I wish the IWC would just enjoy this and quit it with the Mark wars, especially when it's two awesome stars going at it. I seriously hope Cena doesn't get involved in this cause it's just so refreshing to see two stars who have chemistry show how in moments the WWE product in this day and age can be awesome. I hope the promos have the same intensity and the Match draws a record rumble buyrate and that Vince sees it's cause of The Rock AND CM Punk and doesn't do Rock / Cena 2.
