Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
Can we stop with the who owned who bullshit? i mean for fucks sake this is not the Cena match anymore this is not some guy coming out and talking absolute shit and giving bullshit arguments on why we should hate Rock the movie star and love him the hard working kid,This centers around Rock wanting the belt and Punk not whiling to make that happen so easily,2000 Rock is not coming back and he doesnt need to,same with corporate Rock this is not him trying to climb his way to the top anymore this is not him trying to become the greatest of all time, this is the Biggest name in wrestling history coming back to give the fans what they want and this allows him to interact with 10,000 fans going crazy for him, this run is to make dream matches happen, why the fuck would you want him to bury the roster? Like i said this is not Cena this is not the bullshit wrist notes promo no need for a burial the program is babyface vs heel interaction thats it,stop hopping for something that is not going to happen and it should not happen.

i can't believe am going to say this, but this is easily the best post i have seen since the rock's return yesterday.
Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
The closing promo was fantastic. Just excellent. Only a few cringe-worthy moments (worked shoot of the production guy telling him to wrap it up, Cole and King's laugh track, etc.). When it comes to selling a PPV match, and strictly just reminding people WHEN a PPV IS (20 days), I can't think of one better in YEARS. Punk sold Rock's insults SO WELL. No exaggerated, shocked faces, but none of the Cena "wow that wasn't funny let me fake laugh and look into the camera and talk to my Dad" shit. The last line and the Rock Bottom were just so good.
"Your arms are too short to box with God" is a money line. That sort of line deserves to live in wrestling lore like "I need to beat you rock, I need it more than anything you could ever imagine...". I don't care if it's not original, it was that moment when in an argument everyone holds their breath. And while the tattoo stuff was stupid the Rock nailed it to close it out. That's what happens when 2 of the best in the industry ever go at it
I don't even know where they go from here, because that was a money promo.

Basically said everything he needed to say with a small insult. You tried to revolutionize the industry and you couldn't even sell an ice cream bar.
True, and notice the clever way Rock articulated what he says to keep credibility in him. He said that he claims to be SE but looks like a skinny guy on crack. He said that he pretended like he can change the business but couldn't even sell an ice cream bar. He said how people rejected and didn't care for Punk, not the other way around. All that has a meaning behind it and can be presented differently like saying that Punk looks like a drug addict, couldn't draw an audience and never had any power to change something. But it was a soft version of what he could have said, he will never say that directly because Rock understands what this industry is all about more than anyone else. I will always remember that 2002 interview he did saying how if you make your opponent look like a complete joke, then you just won a pointless match against a joke. But if you build your opponent and put him up there, the moment you beat him would mean something. That's what Rock is doing here, that's what Rock always did and it was perfect.
You also got to look at what the crowd wants to see from Rock and how he was able to put everything the crowd wanted in different ways like using Punk's voiceless character to start a chant or doing the Finally when Punk said that they don't matter. Rock was incredible in every way and this can easily be the go-home segment for the Rumble PPV if it was this Sunday. I also liked how he closed the promo with believable intensity into the Rock Bottom. Smooth and natural, not have to worry about protecting Cena in every word he says, or following some uncomfortable presentation of the WWE machine. Great start, there are two more weeks, one should be Rock/Heyman.
As for Punk, as I said before, his promo before Rock came out was completely pointless and had nothing to do with Rock or the Rumble, if the intention behind it was to kill the crowd before Rock comes out, then it did its job. Other than that, good delivery and selling during the exchange in the promo. What he said to Rock was 50/50, on one hand he's a heel getting heat which is good, but the things he says like he's the best Rock has ever faced or something, along with boxing god or whatever sounds more like something Miz would say in the same tone of the "must see superstar of all time", completely unrealistic and not the way they want to present a serious Punk to the audience. Rock sold him perfectly but it's just too much to take seriously when he stands there in the ring with Rock. If they want Punk in a delusional heel role who is obsessed with being WWE Champion, then it's fine. Because Rock sold the match and the PPV in this promo anyway.
Can't wait for SD.

I for one hope that Charles Robinson is the referee for this match, he's the only ref who can do it justice.

Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
The main thing I'm glad about was that there was actually physical interaction. Would have been easy for them to take the other route with no physicality to the Rumble like they did with Cena/Rock at Mania.
