I made a fist and said "yeah!" when Punk mentioned Brodus, Little Jimmy, tyson kidd. So much fucking truth. Punk is a stellar mic worker and indeed the best in the WWE. I think it's reasonable to think that he's better than the Rock, although I don't agree.

I hope Austin was watching tonight and was impressed with Punk's performance. Maybe this will make him want to come back for a feud.

I just checked what Cookie Puss is and in the wiki page of it, you got two Punk pics Amazing.

Rock was on fire as usual and that was the best promo in the company since Rock's Miami/WWE title promo after WM. Basically covered everything, most important thing was how Punk pretended to not care about his promises, when in reality, he stopped trying after he legitimately failed to do it. Not a change, not a new era, couldn't even get an ice cream because he has no power, as Rock said, delusional. Rock also mentioned how the people rejected Punk and not the other way around, which is spot on because the paying audience refused to see him as a top guy no matter how many matches he won or how many days he held the belt. Rock just sold the Rumble in one promo. Created tension with Punk, put over the importance of the title for him, entertained the live audience like only he can AND between all that, even put Punk over as a threat. Pleasure to watch the master work his magic again.

Punk did his job well when Rock came out. The first part of the promo where he cries about Tyson Kid and backstage politics was pointless and had nothing to do with anything. The main part here was selling the Rumble match.

Would love to watch that off-air segment of Rock giving Punk 3 Rock Bottoms and a People's Elbow. Can't wait for Rock's first SD in a decade in his hometown. After this money promo, SmackDown should be more about fun and maybe fresh interactions.

Pretty much agree with this. The Rock was great. No need to put him on this pedestal about how he was holding back.

Every wrestler delivers promos in their own way. I don't understand why some fans haven't figured that out yet. CM Punk cuts a shoot style promo, that's HIS style. You will NEVER see Cena or Rock or practically any other guy on the roster cut a promo like him because that's HIS shtick.

Rock delivers his promos with a good balance of intensity and comedy which is hard to master as Cena has tried for years to find this balance himself and fails as he's either too intense or too comedic.

Rock also manages to put over the guy he's facing to build them up in the fans eyes while at the same time tossing in a few insults so in the end they're at the same level to the viewers. Notice how Rock went back and forth of mentioning Punk's title reign and talent while making fun of his looks?

Some of you ignorant haters need to realize that these two will never cross into each other's shticks. Punk won't be making jokes and spitting out catchphrases and Rock will never "break the 4th wall" bringing up the non-kayfabe issues in the WWE.

That's not who Punk and Rock are and that's not what we know them as. We know them as two talented men both on the mic and in the ring with two different styles on the opposite ends of the spectrum who just so happen to mesh so well when put together in the ring better than Cena could ever hope to be.

We have two more episodes of Raw for their promos to build up into something amazing, this was just a taste of what's in store.

So stop spitting it out, fucking swallow it and enjoy.
Best post I've read tonight, and your description of Rock & Punk's individual promo styles and how they delivered that segment together (not against each other) is what makes Rock v. Punk a compelling dynamic.

Regardless of your feelings on the Rock or Punk, I really only have one point to make.

Both of those guys brought intensity to that final promo. The closing segment of the show made the rest of the show (save for a few things) look like absolute shit. Rock and Punk were on such a higher level than everything else that happened, that I'd honestly be down with the WWE firing half of the roster to give more time to intense, focused feuds like this one.

I mean seriously, we can run along with our 'Vanilla Midget Kayfabe Breaking CM Punk' jokes and our 'Catchphrase Machine Dwayne Johnson' insults, but I don't see why we have to choose one or the other, when both of these guys were on such a damn high level compared to the shit we normally see on WWE television. That shit was captivating, it was interesting, and it planted seeds for a feud that might actually let us see some different stuff out of the Rock (I could be reading it wrong though, but regardless).

I know that mark wars will always exist, and I know that some will pick apart that cookiepuss line, or how Punk started getting repetitive, or what have you, but honestly, it's nights like this that we need to stop being so fucking picky. It's nights like this that we stop worrying about the 'Ratingzz' and 'Who buried who' or 'That promo could've been better' or 'Wow way to suck up'. That final promo was honestly fantastic, and I'm going to look at it as a STORY and a FEUD that will unfold however it will unfold. I'm only here to enjoy the ride. With CM Punk and The Rock at the front of it, I have no doubt that it will be a great one.

People are going to dismiss your posts because you're, well, ROCK316AE, but you are absolutely right. Rock made strong points but they get slightly overshadowed in the flashy way he makes those points. Punk's points are more apparent because he delivers them differently.

There is a difference between being face and heel though that gives the heel the edge. Heels can attack the fans and attack the product allowing for a broader message that goes beyond attacking the opponent. 90% of Punk's work wasn't focused on the Rock.

OK junior, get off The Rock's balls, Rock isn't THAT great on the mic, yes he's, yes his catchphrases might entertain you, but don't pretend that Rock could easily destroy Punk on the mic. No need for the "Rock is holding back" excuse (Did Dwayne happen to tell that he's just holding back on promos btw? No?), Punk did better tonight. Get over it.

And enough people with the Rock is holding back because its PG....Do any of you think that maybe Punk also has to hold back because of the PG....its not like Vince said to Rock "hold back your insults because this is PG" and then turns to Punk and say "Just go out there and do whatever you want."

They are both held back because of the PG rating so stop bring that up people it is a stupid argument...

Instead of fighting back in forth on who did better tonight, can we all just sit back and have a laugh at the difference in greatness between how the show ended with Punk/Rock promo and Cena's promo to start off the show....
There were two top guys and Rock's segments were the highest rated in company history. There wasn't a revolving door of mainstream mega stars it was Rock and Austin and way below them was everybody else. Rock could nuke Punk's cred in a second don't think he couldn't. The fans have been comditioned to think the AE are superior to the current guys anyway.

Punk is a great mic worker I've know that for 10 years, but in the landscape of the history of pro wrestling he's a spec on the Rock's ass.
