Re: Official The Rock vs. CM Punk Discussion Thread
people are really having complaints about that promo??.....dear lord...that was probably one of the best most intense promo from punk and i knew right when the rock returned he would drop the "respect" bitch act now that hes actually hanging with somebody who's in his own league. This feud most continue into wrestle mania as it has the potential to be one of the best feuds of the decade with the whole wwe poster boy(not the pg john cena bullshit) vs. Anti wwe feel going into the match.
Basically i would have rock win at the rumble, retain at elimination chamber vs. Punk, cena, ziggler,Big E,and Roman Reigns(could't think of any body else) then go to wrestle mania and lose clean to cm punk.

you all do understand that Rock was the babyface right? So that means playing to the crowd and reciting catchphrases is what he has to do. He can't take it to the level CM punk is at because he can't be too harsh. Cm Punk also has been blessed with the thumbs up on being open to the crowd, being honest and talking politics.
Cm punk is the best mic worker ever but The Rock did his thing. Given Heel powers he can go all out too.
And guys remember, You can't expect Rock to follow CM's reality/politics train since that would be out of character for the Rock. He can't just stop being the insult swinging, Candy ass kicking, Crowd player and go real on everybody all of a sudden.

The Rock said CM Punk looked like a crackhead. It was actually one of his better lines, 'cause it's true.
But yeah no, this "Rock was a face so he had to hold back" noise is just garbage.

Yep, from a kayfabe perspective as well, Punk owned Rock. Rock basically made himself look like a fool and proved that everything Punk said was true. And, Punk seemed way more intense and serious. Good promo by both, but Punk took this.

Great promo from both IMO. They did what they needed to do and that was sell the pay-per-view match and they did it PERFECTLY. It made me want to watch that match more than I already wanted to and there's still two weeks to build it up.
I can't wait for the next two weeks.
Also, who did the better promo comes down to personal preference, IMO. It's what you prefer that'll determine TO YOU who had a better promo.

Well the main difference here is that the CM Punk/ Rock dynamic truly is a thing of polar opposites, and unlike the Cena feud, they actually have material that they can build upon aside from fruity colours and not showing up blah blah blah.
The problem with Rock and Cena was that you couldn't really feel any tension between the two aside from some rare occations, and both guys remaining clear cut faces made for an awkward dynamic. With CM Punk, you legitimately feel that his title reign may be coming to an end, and you know how much that means to Punk. Rock wants to be the WWE champion and go on to Wrestlemania defending it. You can almost feel a creative tug of war happening not only backstage with those running the show, but also with both men involved as the battle to one up each other evolves.
Like I said, both guys utilized their strengths perfectly here. During the Cena/Rock stuff, it always felt like one or the other wasn't on their game, they knew their Mania match was historic, so they worried too much not to fuck things up rather than going into it naturally and passionately.
Punk and Rock have something completely unique, they are both lauded for their mic skills, but their deliveries are completely different. Punk's off the cuff shoot style agressiveness vs Rock's tongue twisting natural charisma just makes for something that fans can be on both sides of the fence with, unlike the Cena/Rock feud where everyone pretty much sided with the Rock. At times I almost felt like they were running out of material during that feud in their overprotecting of both guys, here I feel like both guys will just let it loose. We learn from our mistakes, and Rock came into this with a clear-cut statement: He knows what Punk is capable of, and that will drive him to be the best Rock he can be to make this one of the truly memorable feuds in recent history.
