Punk: I was never a huge Rock guy. He came in and I think my opinion of him was this guy is bland and boring. It’s a credit to him for reinventing himself right on the verge of him maybe being fired, but I just never gravitated towards his character. That doesn’t mean it was a bad character, I was just more of a straightforward guy. I liked Stone Cold Steve Austin more than the Rock.

Sitterson: Is there one key difference that you see between the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin that puts you in one camp as opposed to the other?

Punk: Stone Cold being Stone Cold – that is who that guy is. He is a redneck from Texas who likes to drink beer and beat people up. The Rock is Dwayne Johnson dialed up a level. It’s Dwayne Johnson trying really hard… Do you know what I mean? To me it’s just a difference of somebody being themselves as opposed to somebody playing a character.

At least this time he said it was his opinion, he wasn't preaching it as fact, like last year when he called Rock out for "stealing" spotlights, just like Cena. Always knew Punk was a Stone Cold mark though


Those series of matches actually sounds good. Just as long as Punk and Orton are heel.

I think most people agree Rocky Maivia wasn't working and he needed to change. I don't know about that try hard comment Punk made as far as the Rock character is concerned. Johnson's playing a character just like Undertaker, just like Mankind, just like Kane and so on. Not everyone is who they are with the volume turned up. Characters/gimmicks can be great and I appreciate the guys who have the skill to make characters work and build that connection with the audience.

Punk has actually got that wrong. Rock was never a Dwayne Johnson dialed up a level. He is/was a character that he completely morped himself into. His ex wife and friends have said many times that they couldn't believe sometimes that the guy they seen on TV was completely different from the guy they know in real life.

And Stone Cold was completely a character. He in real life didn't go around beating people up and flipping the bird at people.
