Phoenix should be fine, it's not NYC but Rock announced his match before the ticket sales which will bring a different audience than your average Phoenix crowd.

No doubt, Rock had the best kip ups in the business, nobody in his size could or can do it so smooth like he did. OTR January 1999: "The best pure athlete in the business". This is a good example:
There was also one tag match in 2002 with Rock and X-Pac in the ring, awesome kip up. Rock can still do it, he did it easily on TE last year and on Fast 5, maybe we are going to see a classic clothesline/DDT/kip up combo at the Rumble.

I should be there and I expect some CM Punk supporters of a small margin but when it gets close, you'll see why he's the Rock and why he's a icon. No one had more energetic crowds in matches than the Rock. Punk has been kind of cowardly and running away from alot of stuff, Sneaking out wins against Cena...I think he and Rock won't have what this board is expecting as a rehash of Rock/Cena build. Punk doesn't need the same kind of protection that Cena relys and depends on when he's in a overwhelming situation.
Exactly why I think he will get far more heat than Cena, because a large amount of the casuals who already hate him against Cena, will hate him even more against Rocky(since Cena couldn't beat him, well lets hope so anyway).
Another thing is the fact that Rock and Punk were always cheered above Cena by adults and smark outlets. This demographic will want to cheer Rock over Punk by a large degree too. So unless they are hardcore marks, Punk will be pretty draught for cheers, as a heel really should be.
For the build I really hope you're correct. I really do not want another Rock/Cena type feud. Even the whole "respect" angle can be played a lot better in simply looking for "respect" of a legend. Let us just hope they can come up with something good, and I would love Rock/Punk to go more abrasive in promos than Cena/Rock (not full shoot style or anything, but at least give Rock back his old pacing/catchphrases back, since as a heel Punk has his sarcasm and insults back).
In the Rumble, it's going to be a Rock crowd just with the usual desperate for attention "heel fans" trying to start something. That Rocky-Cena chant was mostly from a few people in the front rows close to the mics, that's usually happens in a huge stadium. Alvarez reported back then that it was 95/5 and even kids with full Cena gear were chanting for Rock by the end of the match.
78k cannons going off at one time.
Cena: "The ovation when he came to the ring was the loudest I have ever heard"

Miz is always good on interviews, you can see the surreal look on his face the moment he stands face to face with The Rock at SVS 2011. There were a lot of reports about how Miz is not as hungry as he was before, besides the fact that he main evented WM and worked a program with Rock, I think when he wrestled Rock in his dream match with a hot MSG crowd, that's when he felt that he did everything he ever wanted to do in wrestling.
But I will buy a 3 disc "Jericho talks about The Rock" DVD. Nobody can explain the true greatness better than him which is understandable because you need to be there or close to the caliber to truly understand it, and Jericho is there.
Yeah, Jericho has one of the greatest minds in the business. Get a lot of interesting insight into The Rock and wrestling in general just from his interviews and his books. Couldn't recommend his books highly enough and he's just started a 3rd one which is great news.
I agree about Miz, it must be hard for him to get motivated to work with Kofi Kingston and the like after getting his dream moment working with the Rock at Survivor Series. I'd like to see him get a chance in the main event scene again at some point. (along with a face turn hopefully).
