Perhaps the parade was premature. Perhaps the celebrating, the humble tweets to The People and the legions of Team Bring It, and the proclamation that FINALLY, The Rock was WWE Champion once again jumped the gun by just a bit. Maybe, just maybe, The Rock put the horse before the cart when he celebrated his latest triumph on Raw Roulette, because CM Punk is not done with The Great One by a long shot.

How could he be, either? When a Superstar holds the WWE Title — Punk’s “life’s work,” in his own words — for 434 days spread across three calendar years, he does not just simply throw up his hands and call it a good run when the prize is taken from his clutches. So it was of no surprise when, during The Rock’s celebratory address to the WWE Universe as its new champion, The Straight Edge Superstar himself declared would be evoking his rematch clause – “granting” Rock a rematch was how he earned it – at Elimination Chamber. It was also of no surprise that The Rock gladly accepted.

But once again, maybe Rock is counting his proverbial chickens too early, because for all CM Punk’s feverish boasting in his final days as champion, he was right about one thing after the Royal Rumble: Hedidpin The Rock. It was one-two-three in the middle of the ring, although it took a sneak attack by who we can only assume was The Shield to weaken The Brahma Bull enough for Punk to make the pin. And it was only after Mr. McMahon restarted the bout that The Great One found enough of a second wind to silence CM Punk and put The Straight Edge Superstar to sleep, claiming his eighth WWE Championship in the process.

So at Elimination Chamber, the most brutal pit stop on The Road to WrestleMania, The Rock will face his own personal demon yet again. And The People’s Champion will have to be very, very careful, because CM Punk does not make the same mistake twice, and he is very, very angry. The very real opinion exists — depending whom you ask — that Punk should still be WWE Champion. And with it, the very real possibility exists — should The Rock think one victory equals winning the war — that The Brahma Bull’s parade could end as soon as it began and that CM Punk will be champion again, with history in his hands for the third time.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said:
Over 100 years of Heavyweight Champions.

3 generations in my blood.

New WWE Champion.

My honor. TEAM BRING IT.

wwe.com said:
Attitude Era original Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will compete in his first World Title match in more than a decade when he challenges WWE Champion CM Punk, the longest-reigning WWE Title holder of the past quarter-century, at Royal Rumble on Jan. 27.

The WWE Universe has anxiously awaited The Great One’s return to the WWE Title picture since he announced his championship opportunity on Raw 1,000 last July. Though there was no guarantee at the time whom The Rock’s opponent would be, the always-confident Punk fired an opening salvo that night, cutting down The Rock with a clothesline before knocking him out with a picture-perfect Go to Sleep. The following week, The Voice of the Voiceless defended his actions by suggesting The Great One, having been “gifted” a WWE Title match, viewed victory at the Royal Rumble as a foregone conclusion.

Whether a real or perceived slight, the implication that The Rock places himself on a higher plane than the current WWE Champion was seemingly all the motivation Punk needed to make sure he would still have the title on Jan. 27.

In the half-year since Raw 1,000, The Second City Saint stunned WWE fans by aligning with Paul Heyman and ratcheting up the vitriol of his speech. More important than either of those details, he has — by hook or by crook — maintained possession of the championship gold. Having turned back challenges by John Cena and Ryback in recent months, The Best in the World now looks ahead to testing himself against the seven-time former WWE Champion who vowed in 2012 to regain the title.

For The Rock, an A-list Hollywood action star and third-generation Superstar who has sports-entertainment coursing through his veins, the Royal Rumble title match represents the start of a potential career renaissance inside the ring. Since March 2004, The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment has competed in only two sanctioned WWE matches, teaming with John Cena to shred The Awesome Truth (The Miz & R-Truth) at Survivor Series 2011 and overcoming the Cenation leader at WrestleMania XXVIII.

But by vying for the most treasured prize in sports-entertainment, The Rock is committing to more than another appearance as a “special attraction.” Rather, he is setting his eyes on again becoming WWE’s gold standard.

Hell-bent though The Rock may be on introducing a new generation of WWE fans to The People’s Champion, there is no discounting Punk’s deftness once the bell rings. Controversial endings to several high-profile title defenses may have tarnished The Second City Saint’s reputation in the eyes of some critics, but they have done nothing to change the fact the WWE Championship still sits around his waist. Before his seedier side came into focus in late summer, Punk spent much of 2012 disposing of WWE’s best and brightest, ranging from Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan to Dolph Ziggler and Kane. How will the WWE Champion match up against one of the pillars of The Attitude Era?

As the WWE Universe excitedly counts down the days until Jan. 27, the back-and-forth between two of WWE’s most compelling talkers is bound to pick up steam. It will not be until the Royal Rumble, however, that the trash talk gives way to the gravity of a game-changing WWE Championship bout, the likes of which hasn’t seen in years. Will Royal Rumble mark the rebirth of a championship Brahma Bull, or will it only underscore what Punk has claimed all along, that he is untouchable and in a class by himself?
The Rock explains why he wants WWE Title

WWE part-time star The Rock revealed why re-capturing the WWE Title is important to him in a new interview with WWE Magazine. It's a statement that has been missing from WWE television leading up to the Royal Rumble PPV.

"It starts with recognizing what the WWE Championship represents to me," Rock said in the February 2013 issue. "Every time I hold that title over my head in victory, it not only signifies the fact that I have delivered the absolute best entertainment that I could to the WWE Universe, but that I'm taking a moment to live an experience that all the generations of wrestlers in my family strived to achieve.

Rock continued, "There is no other award that I could receive that's as deeply ingrained in my blood and history as the WWE Championship - and that's why it means so much to me."

At the same time, Rock said that after his first WWE Title reign - which came in 1998 - he decided that he would never allow his possession of or lack of the WWE Title define his career.

"After my first WWE Championship run came to an end, I made a conscious decision that night that I would work harder than any other Superstar in the locker room to become the type of WWE entertainer who, if I never had another championship run again, it would not define my career. I never wanted to rely on a title run for success."

Rock's next statement reflects his recent approach to mixing "entertainment" with "seriousness." Rock concluded, "My goal was to get to a place where I relied only on what I could bring to the table in terms of being entertaining and having a one-of-a-kind - and electrifying - connection with all of the WWE Universe."

[ FYI: Rock's interview is part of a cover-feature on Rock in the latest WWE Magazine. ]

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

If HHH-Brock II happens ;

Brock wins again, book it. Triple H doesn't give a fuck about wins and losses anymore, the only reason he beat Punk was to seem like somewhat of a credible guy to a new generation of fans who has previously only seen him in Hornswoggle comedy skits and jobbing to Undertaker.

Oh, and if it happens it'll be Last Man Standing. Trips is the fucking KING of Last Man Standing matches, and I don't really care what kind of card we get as long as we get non-stop AWESOME matches.

He has only won TWO singles main events over the last three fucking years FFS :p !

I kind of somewhat care a little, but as long as I don't get a Sheamus/DB moment next year, it should all be good. But I think if WWE wasn't lazy, we would get a Punk vs HHH match which would be great if Punk wasn't defending the title at mania.

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

Personally I would love to see HHH face Daniel Bryan i think that would be a great match. Also HHH haters HHH is not going to retire. Hes gonna be the owner soon and will become a character heel boss like Vince was. HHH also has so many years left him i can see him go full time for 5 more years if he wanted to

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

Trips didn't even need to get involved with Punk , his previous match with the Undertaker was the basis for the story for them at WM 28.

I actually want Cena to beat Rock. It will be an interesting reaction from those New York fans :lol

No actually, he DID because Kevin Nash wasn't medically cleared to compete, someone had to step in as the match was already announced BEFOREHAND - who else would be appropriate apart from Nash's best buddy?

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

Can't believe a Brock/HHH rematch is supposedly a lock. No interest in watching it but I still don't mind that since it leaves room for TAKER/ROCK. If Rock/Cena happens, you're left with Taker/Brock which is good but I've seen it before and don't see them topping their HIAC match. And though, debating between Brock/HHH II and Rock/Cena II is a lot like arguing which animal shit smells better, I'd take the former if it guarantees TAKER/ROCK since it intrigues me more than Taker/Brock (markdom definitely plays a role here). Of course, the most
scenario is if both Brock/Haitch and Rock/Cena happen.

Rock/AJ kiss segment please Vince.

Don't give WAGG ideas though.

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

I don't want to see Cena/Rock again because I think it would override everything they did to build up Wrestlemania 28. The match that was supposed to be Once In A Lifetime and had a year long build.

I am just glad Punk is getting his chance against The Rock.

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

Is there any chance The Rock does not win the title?
I hope so

The face of WWE has lost to a guy who hasn't wrestled for more than 7 years.

Now,the longest reigning champion in 25 years should lose to him.

I understand Rock is a huge star in Hollywood and is one of the all time greats but he hasn't been active since 2003.This sends a wrong message.

I like that gif in your sig Wagg, glad you brought it back (Y)

The one wot h :lesnar and Rock shaking Vince's hand dnc cCEna facepalming
Gonna whip it out for each mania season until he turns heel then modify it if possible. (Y)

True that. BTW, would you mark if Rock set up AJ for the people's elbow and then before dropping the elbow he mocks her by skipping around her?
Would fall out of my seat. :lmao

people are suggesting a Rock/Aj angle ? please no , keep Aj as far away as possible from the Rock/Punk storyline, it's bad enough that she became the focal point of the show over the last year, and guess what ? most of it sucked

it should strictly be Punk/Rock, two guys that have beef with each other and gonna lock horn, no soap opera BS or "kiss-and-tell" for the dumb fangirls
Angle? Hell no, segment? I don't see why not.

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

The whole WWE title scene has been interesting and has made me wonder a few things.

- The prestige of the title. Punk hasn't main evented as much as a champion usually should but to be the longest reigning champion in 25 years says something in my opinion and he still has fended off a lot of challengers.

- The establishment of Punk. I wonder this. He seems like he'll be up there for a long time. He has cooled down from 2011 but I wonder if he got this long title reign because of this really lucrative contract.

- The next time we'll see this again. We may not see a 400 day WWE Championship reign for a very long time. If ever. Who knows how many days Cena could've gone without getting injured?

For Punk to drop it to the Rock, even though I prefer it didn't happen, as much as I love The Rock, could still mean good things for Punk and the title.

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

Damn... 400 Days....

What an impressive title reign. Part time or not, there's absolutely no shame in dropping the title to one of the biggest stars ever in the industry. Plus, there's obviously the very likely possibility that he'll get it back before the end of 2013 anyways :lol

I'd much rather Punk take the title back at the Chamber or retain at the Rumble if it means we get Rock-Brock instead of Cena-Rock II. Personally, I think Rock knew who his Mania opponent was likely a year in advance, and if the WWE knew they probably would have waited until the second Rock-Cena match to put out a 'Greatest Rivalries' set, instead of opting to release the 'once in a lifetime' set.

Rock-Brock main events Mania. Title or no title.

he doesn't need one tho, his gimmick/character wouldn't work with a girl, Rock's on screen character is a prima-donna who looks down on everyone as if he's god's gift, putting a female with him would give him a soft side and ruin the gimmick. He's suppose to be a playa, a pimp, not the intimate kind

besides, he already had a similar angle with Trish in late 01, I don't remember how did they closed that angle btw ?

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

Anyone got that video of Rock interviewing a load of hot women for a job to be his PA? It's gold.

He interviews all these hot women and then blows them all off. Very funny.

Every mans dream to be able to blow off a load of hot women.
Gold segment

It got taken down during the WWE clampdown on YouTube, would be great if someone could upload it again.

Re: Official The Rock WWE Championship Discussion

I am 100% sure the rock is walking out of the rumble the 8 time wwe champion. He will headline EC with punk, cena, ryback, bryan and Lesnar and headline WM29 with Brock lesnar who will be World heavy weight champ and then the rock will become undisputed champ at Mania, then The rock will defeat Cena at ER and retain titles (forgot to say he will debut the new wwe title and his custom made belt so he has 3 belts after Mania). Then at OTL it will be the rock vs Randy orton for the titles with rock going over again and turning into the coporate champion by siding with heel hhh and the shield and they rule the wwe. (around this time the 5th boom period starts and wwe will be pulling regular 3-5 ratingzzz). At the june paper view i think its no way out, the rock will defeat John cena, Cm punk and Randy orton in a no disqualification fatal four way match. Around the july time the rock segments will be pulling regular 5+ ratingzzzz. Then money in the bank will be held in lets see Montreal and da main event is the rock Vs......................the returning Batista with the ending being Cena comes out of no where and beats da shit out of the rock and Batista to turn heel and the match ends in a no contest. Then at summer slam we will have the final rock vs heel cena and the rock goes over for da 3rd time, this will be a HITC match with Batista as da special refree. At am night of champions, we will have rocky vs the miz for the undisputed titles with rock going over in a street fight. Then at HITC, the rock will be in the steel structure yet again, but this time it will be with Danial Bryan with rocky going over. Then survivor serious takes place innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn..............................the Toronto sky dome, with the rock vs CM punk with rock going over and we have a double turn taking place to rocky turns face again lol. AT TLC, the rock vs Batista vs Brock Lesnara with rock going over again after he power bombs lesnar throw four tables of the ladder and then pins him. Finalllllllllllllllly at the royal rumble the rock vs RYBACK with ryback going over and becoming the new face of the company, the next time the rock comes out and says hes done it all he is the GOAT and boooom, the bells ring, main event of wm30 rock taker, streak vs wrestling career match. but w8, JUST A SEXY BOY.........OMFG HOOLOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY SHITTTTTTTTTT WTF HBK COMING OUT OF Retirement, wm30 mainevent, in the new texas arena with over 100k ppl chanting lets go rocky!!!!!!!, and baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam rock vs taker vs hbk in a triple threat barried ALIVE MATCH!!!!. double rockbottom throw the annoucer tabel, omfg double ppls elbow on the heads of taker and hbk on steel chairs. holy shit the rock barys taker and hbk alive, the rock has solidified himself as the greatest pro wrestler of all time. vinny mac, austin, flair, hogan all the greats come out to the ring, rock wearing a suit and all them jabronies bow down to da greatonE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!............my fantasy booking for da next 15 months lol.
