Updated Numbers Confirm WrestleMania 28 Is The Biggest Wrestling PPV Of All Time

UPDATE

Quote:

- WWE's WrestleMania 28 pay-per-view did end up being the single most purchased pro wrestling pay-per-view event in history, based on new data that are likely the final numbers for the event.

These updated numbers include late recorded buys and have WrestleMania 28 doing 1,253,000 buys - 733,000 domestic and 520,000 internationally. The international number would beat the all-time record by a significant amount. There have been several events over the years that have topped the domestic number.

The 1,253,000 buys for WrestleMania 28 beats out the 1,250,000 buys for WrestleMania 23 in 2007 with Donald Trump. Technically, when it's all said and done WWE is able to round up to 1.3 million buys and claim the biggest pay-per-view of all-time.

Ouch, ouch, ouch.

At least Over the Limit has several excuses on its behalf, one being that it was, I believe, free for many in Europe. It's time for Elimination Chamber to go. Bring No Way Out back to its old home in February and simply let the Elimination Chamber gimmick die off.

Puts more emphasis on The Royal Rumble again, which in my opinion is only a good thing. The Chamber is an obstacle in booking and lately has required one trick or another (Miz staying out of it last year, giving the Raw #1 contendership EC match to Cena, or this year both champions retaining, etceteras) to sustain the storylines to Wrestlemania. Time to just get rid of it. Reinforce the importance of The Royal Rumble event.

When you factor in that the Chamber is a perfect incubator for injuries (look at Wade Barrett, whose arm was taped up the next night, and see what happened to it/him), it's really become much more trouble than it is worth.

Ouch. And Elimination Chamber too. But that one's understandable because like it said, where you've gained stars in the lineup in Jericho and Sheamus, you've lost in Orton, Edge, Cena (and Kane iirc?) The show didn't look that good this year, and it wasn't.

But damn @ "Once In A Lifetime". They literally produced mini documentary specials for these two. Where does it rank against other Wrestlemanias in terms of total buys now, then?

If I recall correctly, both 25 & 26 fell beneath one million, so at least the last two years have been an upward trend.

Elimination Chamber = OUCH

Extreme Rules going up is not a surprise given that it was Lesnar's first match upon his return. They had a killer attraction and it worked for them.

Prelim Over the Limit Numbers = DOUBLE OUCH!!!

Didn't OTL 2011 do 140,000 buys?

If that's the final number (Which I don't think it will, I think it'll above 1.2) then it goes 2nd on WM PPV buys list.

It's still the highest grossing wrestling event ever. Huge success.

that chamber number looks awful to think in 2010 it did 300,000. The Mania Number is still good 1.15 Million is a good number.

Over The Limit last year did 140,000 buys. This year's wasn't the lowest amount of buys they've made.

WrestleMania's numbers are still good even though they continue to go down. Elimination Chamber numbers are pretty bad compared to where they were a few years ago...maybe it's time to change it up and stop using gimmick PPVs as a whole and actually build up to gimmick matches. The chamber and HIAC for instance have been ruined by being overused all these years now.

Extreme Rules is a good number coming off WrestleMania with Brock Lesnar on it.
