Re: WrestleMania 28 buyrate drops to 1.15 million
People need to realize how much 40,000-50,000 buys are actually worth. In retrospect, Lesnar getting just 40,000 extra buys for ER from last year sounds terrible, but when you realize that EACH one of those buys were worth between $55 to $70 bucks each, it becomes a different story. Remember, WWE jacked up their PPV prices in recent years giving them more profit even if they have lower buys. It's not like the old days anymore where a good card would get you 100,000-200,000 extra buys anymore compared to last year.
PPV's were relatively cheaper then, and also, there's the fact that LOADS of people stream now. And if they don't stream, it's a million times easier and cheaper to just watch it or download it in 24 hours without reading spoilers.

Re: WrestleMania 28 buyrate drops to 1.15 million
WWE needs to scrap HIAC and book EC in October or something. It seems counter productive to have a PPV between the Rumble and Mania. They should get a TV deal with NBC and book a SNME in February instead of the Elimination Chamber PPV.

That is a lot easier said than done. WWE would love to run a show on NBC, which probably has no interest in a tiring industry and brand.

Re: WrestleMania 28 buyrate drops to 1.15 million
Over the Limit had such a bad card compared to the two events before it. Main event wasn't even a proper wrestling match after all.
I got it free in the UK but even if I hadn't, no way would I have bought it. Rubbish event, rubbish name, rubbish card, surprised it even sold as many as it did.

Re: WrestleMania 28 buyrate drops to 1.15 million
I still think the WM 28 buyrate could've been bigger if WWE had done the build up better. Build up sells the shit out of a PPV if done right.
MITB with Punk is a prime example. He increased like 30,000 buys which says something IMO. A PPV like MITB would've have drew that increase if not for Punk's storyline and his promos.
WM 27 and 28 wouldn't have drew as good if it wasn't for Rock. If Rock's return at WM 27 would've been against Cena in a match, the PPV could've done more too. People were so hyped for Rock's return in 2011, and then it kinda wore off since WWE had him wrestle and TEAM up with Cena at Survivor Series. If Team Cena vs Team Bring It would've headlined Survivor Series, you would've gotten a bigger buyrate for SS and then the feud would continue from there. WWE dropped the ball with the WM 28 build up and they still cashed in!
WM 29 could shatter records though if done right

Re: WrestleMania 28 buyrate drops to 1.15 million
I'm sorry, but when a HEAVILY hyped Wrestlemania gets only 100,000 more than a very little hyped Wrestlemania, that's where I draw the line. They spent a year with the Rock and Cena feud, only to have that blown off before hand with Survivor Series. This is proof that the WWE is nearing the end. When King Mabel vs. Diesel has more buyers than Brock Lesnar or The Rock's first matches in 8 years, that is PROOF that the PPV market is a bust

Re: WrestleMania 28 buyrate drops to 1.15 million
Wrestling hitting 1 million+ buys is an incredible feat especially in 2012 and with the price they charged this year. I think it was $65 on PPV here in the US. Then later in the same month WWE does another 250,000 buys at $55 a pop? They are still making bank.

Yeah you're right but i'm certain they have a positive relationship. I remember last Summer they aired a special replay of Wrestlemania 27. Plus, considering that it's a Saturday night event, airing a special live WWE event certainly brings them more ratings than shitty re-runs or murder mysteries. I doubt NBC is that selective on programming on Saturday nights.

Re: WrestleMania 28 buyrate drops to 1.15 million
Elimination Chamber (HIAC and TLC also) needs to go, they don't have the star power to put 12 guys in a chamber and have anything left over for the rest of the card and with the fact its just prior to Mania so definite filler.
WrestleMania number still impressive, I do wonder how badly that number will tale of post current Legends.

How was that a blow off to ROCK-CENA feud?
