It's a pity if Taker misses this year's WM, cause he'll miss tying Bret's record of 13 WM matches straight.

Agreed.

This feud would remind me a lot of Hunter/Taker at X-Seven. They didn't have much of a backstory as well. But it worked perfectly. Hunter gave a promo claiming he beat everyone that there is to beat and out came the one man he never beat. Simple, yet effective.
Seconded.

Because Cena's legacy is not set yet?

The problem is CM Punk lost a lot of credibility for challenging The Streak by losing to The Rock via elbow drop, despite assistance from The Shield. Now he's gonna lose to The Rock again.
Throw in them not building towards a 'Taker return - no promos or real hints.

The Rock vs. John Cena will go on last. Cena is getting the title in NY/NJ - the fans will piss all over him, meaning WM ends on a sour note. It never has before. Maybe Cena will win, then the lights will go out and 'Taker will stare down Cena to send the fans home happy and set the stage for WM 30.

This should happen.

Not sure why the "backstory" would prevent Taker from Wrestling with Punk, feuds have to start somewhere, and Wrestlemania is the simplest way for anyone to start a feud with Undertaker. What backstory does Cena have with Taker?

Rubbish, Takers made well over $50 million outside of his wrestling endeavours, by now he comes back for the fans. Maybe he is frustrated that he can't work with Brock/Rock/Cena but I'm sure he's just not appeared yet because he's facing Punk, and he's not done with the Rock yet.

I agree, money is not the problem. If there was a problem the it's because he doesn't get to be in one of the two top matches. But how could he expect it to be any other way?!

Brock has been the biggest draw in fighting over the last couple of years.

Rock is an A-list Hollywood star and one of the three biggest draws in wrestling history.

Cena has been the biggest draw as far as full-time wrestler go since 2005.

Taker, wrestling one match per year, should not headline Mania instead of those three. You could argue that he should be facing Lesnar instead of Hunter but there are a lot of reasons why he shouldn't:

a) Takers broken down body
b) face Taker vs heel Lesnar had been done to death from 2002-2003
c) Hunter recently jobbed to lesnar to set-up a rematch
d) Hunter has been a bigger draw than Taker since 2000
e) a much bigger storyline with Lesnar going up against the whole Corporation (Vince, Steph, Hunter)

Don't get me wrong, i want Taker to be at mania. He has to be at mania. It wouldn't be Wrestlemania without him. But, this year he has to settle with CM Punk as opponent.

Now where is the problem with that to begin with?! Punk just had one hell of a year. He is the second biggest heel in the company behind Lesnar and is the best heel on the mic and in the ring. Seems to be the perfect opponent for Taker if you ask me.

Is that what the stats say? I certainly don't feel that way, always seems to me like undertakers drawing power and how over he is, is underestimated.

Yes. That's what buyrates and ratings say. That's also what house show numbers say:

2000 - 1. The Rock (set all-time record for most big gates in one year); 2. HHH; 3. Kurt Angle; 4. Kane and Chris Benoit; 6. X-Pac; 7. Undertaker; 8. Road Dogg; 9. Naoya Ogawa; 10. Kensuke Sasaki and Chris Jericho

And after 2001, Taker hasn't even been in the Top 10 anymore, while Triple H, despite being part-time or injured many times as well, was in it until 2008.

Can't argue with the stats then, but I think now, at Mania, people want to see Undertaker, it's that legendary aura that he carries, it showed when the crowd were firmly behind him at WM28.
