It took over a decade for him to have a universally considered quality match at the Show of Shows, then several more years until the Streak elevated his matches into a dependable show-stealer. Many consider his hometown match in Houston to be the greatest in WrestleMania history.
But perhaps there's a different match you prefer. The retirement rematch a year later? The under-appreciated gem against Orton that was overshadowed by two MOTYCs? Perhaps the advertised End of an Era? One of his title victories?
Almost everybody is going to answer Michaels so I'll change it up by saying Batista since he was the true challenger to The Streak before Lesnar ended it.
Shout out to Edge and Punk for producing great underdog matches though.
Deffinitley Wresltemania XXV vs Shawn Michaels...It's a match I spent my childhood looking forward to and it certainly didn't disappoint, they both gave everything they had...will always be my fave
Big Orton mark growing up and I still mark out for that Chokeslam / RKO reversal. Outside of being an Orton fan there's something about that match that I can't explain that I really enjoy.
I always thought his first match with Triple H was the best of their mini series.
However I'd have to say 25. Blew me and everyone watching away.
Think it did have the unfortunate side effect of other matches become finisher fests and kicking out of them but at the time it was amazing.
The match with Punk was damn good as well and I believe Taker should have called it a day after that rather than endure the lacklustre matches after that.
Need to check out the Edge/Orton ones, never seen em.
1) Triple H - WM 17
2) Diesel - WM 12
3) Orton - WM 21
4) Triple H - WM 28
5) Kane - WM 14
Ugh, I detested the CM Punk match at WM 29.
Taker's streak was treated like a championship belt with a Fatal 4 Way happening on Raw between Sheamus, Show, Orton and Punk to decide who would face Taker at Mania because they all just came out at the beginning of the show and said they wanted to face The Undertaker, that was it. There should be a story, an actual feud and hatred between The Undertaker and his opponent that they need to settle their differences at Wrestlemania. There was the Paul Bearer thing which I guess was okay for some but there are others who found it tasteless and I wouldn't disagree if they did.
The match itself was underwhelming and a stepdown after Taker's hot series of matches against HBK and HHH the previous years.
