WWE announced today that the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, will host Royal Rumble 2017 on Sunday, January 29, 2017. This marks the return of Royal Rumble to the Alamo City for the first time since 1997.

Royal Rumble is one of WWE’s biggest pay-per-views of the year and officially kicks off The Road to WrestleMania. The event will be highlighted by a 30-man over-the-top-rope Royal Rumble Match featuring WWE Superstars from both Raw and SmackDown LIVE, where the winner will receive a title opportunity to headline WrestleMania 33 in Orlando, Florida on April 2, 2017.

Tickets for Royal Rumble 2017 will be available starting Friday, October 14, at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT through all Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. All tickets are subject to service charges and facility fees.

The Alamodome previously hosted the 1997 Royal Rumble, where more than 60,000 fans witnessed WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin win the Royal Rumble Match and WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels win the WWE Championship.

Royal Rumble 2017 to be held in the Alamodome

I think this is the first non-Wrestlemania stadium PPV WWE has done since.... ironically the 1997 Royal Rumble. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Wow, that’s something. They also did the 2007 in San Antonio. I remember that only because Shawn and Undertaker were the final 2 and they were great.

Hopefully it creates a bigger atmosphere for the Rumble match.

I believe it was rumored to be in los Angeles. I was bummed because I noticed the trend of the rumble in San Antonio every ten years starting on 1997 and then again in 2007 after I moved here. I was hoping they would bring it back for 2017. And they did! I'm fucken buying ringside seats for this. So happy about them running the Alamodome. I hope the rumble becomes a stadium show alongside mania and then summer slam down the line

For anyone who has never been to San Antonio and are thinking about going for Rumble, you can easily make a nice little vacation out of it, too. It's a pretty cool city. The Riverwalk is something you'll definitely want to check out, day and night.

How in the hell is WWE gonna sell enough tickets to fill that stadium? For the Royal Rumble in 1997, approximately 30,000 people actually paid and then for the other half of the people, tickets had to be given away for free.
I am very interested in some free tickets.

Cena16 isn't something people are praying for. Having 60k shit on your "top face" to end the night doesn't exactly scream sending the crowd home happy. IMO, I don't see Cena ever getting #16. As for the Rumbledome, I say it'll have at least one of the following : Seth/HHH, Shane/Bork, BulletClub/Shield, AJ/Orton and/or Miz winning the battle royal. Whoever wins the rumble is going after Styles. Balor/Owens will likely be WM33 main event

This is gonna be a very big rumble. Whoever wins it its gonna be huge. I expect all the big current names to appear to set up their WM feuds. I can see an undertaker Cena stare down to set up their feud. HHH and Seth could be in the rumble as well. Expect Brock to be in there or face Owens for the title
