Bray Wyatt vs Daniel Bryan. Maybe Bret vs Owen was better (need to rewatch) but since I hate Bret and Owen Bray Wyatt gets it.

111 - Jessica Jones & Hunger Games Part 3 Part 2

Another week another this show we do. This week we're all about Marvel's new Netflix series Jessica Jones as well as the last Hunger Games movie. Plus Peter Jackson on the failures of The Hobbit, Wonder Woman, more Riddick stuff, Justice League Dark and Shrek for some reason.

It's between Bret/Owen, Angle/Rey and Eddie/Benoit. All phenomenal 4+ star matches.

Re: Best PPV opening match ever?

I wasn't watching wrestling at the time that Bret/Owen took place, but I have watched it, and it's a damn good match. Angle/Rey is also a damn good match, I've watched it multiple times. I'd go with Bret/Owen, with Angle/Rey, and Bryan/Ziggler thrown in, b/c I loved it. Quite probably more than others do.

Re: Best PPV opening match ever?

I'm going to assume this is open to all WWE and WWE related properties. Won't mention puro.

One that is OFTEN overlooked is Dean Malenko vs Ultimo Dragon from Starrcade 1996. This was basically the 1 of only 2 reasons to watch the PPV (the other being Jushin Liger vs Rey Mysterio), it was a treat to see Dragon's puro and lucha combo style vs Malenko's technical style. Had the PPV ended there, it would have been a great send off, but sadly there was a Hogan/Piper main event to look forward to...

Ultimo Dragon vs Rey Mysterio from the previous month's World War 3 in 1996 was also stellar. As was Mysterio vs Psicosis from Bash at the Beach that year. And Kidman vs Mysterio vs Juventud from Starrcade 1998. AND Pillman vs Liger from Superbrawl 2.

Its so hard to think of one because WCW in particular had so many amazing opening matches because that's where they typically slotted the cruiserweights.

At the end of the day, I still think its Bret vs Owen just because of the story they built up.

Re: Best PPV opening match ever?

Well, first match that comes to mind is ALWAYS Mysterio vs Angle from SummerSlam 2002, so that's my pick.

And then all the rest w/Bryan Danielson when he's been put in the opener to kill it. At least has four. Huh. That's something.

Not going to other promotions here. Just sticking w/WWF/WWE stuff.
