WrestleMania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II (Please read OP first!)

Thanks to EVERYONE who contributed in the WrestleMania 30 thread and the OP in that thread 'Abnorman' for creating the thread and idea. His complete and thOrough explanation served as the template for this thread. Here is all the information that we've collected so far for WrestleMania 31. Thanks to 'PoyPoy14 for taking time to color code and format this OP. Thanks to aaaaaaaahhhhhh for creating the attractions map and this resource

1. GENERAL SALE TICKET INFORMATION

  • One option is to forego the packages and book everything separately. There's a trade off here: Value for increased hassle.
  • In general, it's best to be ready to buy your tickets DAY-OF to ensure the best seats. It usually takes a while for things to sell out (Axxess, especially, tends to have availability almost up to the event), but you don't want to get caught having to hit StubHub for tickets at beefed-up prices.
  • PRESALE: There should be a presale on Ticketmaster a few days before the general sale. You will require codes to access this sale. Follow @Wrestlemania and @LevisStadium on Twitter and keep an eye out on this forum and the dirtsheets for all the codes, which will be easy to find.
  • International buyers will have to pick their tickets up at Will Call (not a major hassle this year). US buyers can get theirs delivered. Last year, Ticketmaster added an option for international buyers to print at home for WrestleMania (not RAW).
  • In previous years, people have gamed the system by opening a separate (US) Ticketmaster account and transferring their tickets, thus being able to print 'em out and skip Will Call.

POLICIES FOR WRESTLEMANIA, HoF & RAW:

* Camera lenses cannot exceed 6" when fully extended. No video cameras are allowed.

*For Levi's Stadium, they follow the standard NFL bag policy as well as their own additional security policies. Be advised that the sign/banner policy would most likely be lifted for this event.

  • The Hall of Fame is a long night of speeches and little in the way of action. If you're not that into the history of wrestling, you may get bored. Otherwise, it's a great event.
  • Lots of fans like to suit up for the HoF, but casual attire is fine.

2. TRANSPORT & ACCOMMODATION

FLIGHTS:

  • For flight deals, try Skyscanner.net, Farecompare.com or Kayak.com.
  • Try a few configurations. There's plenty of airports in the US - try breaking up your flight: fly into a hub airport, and then book an onward flight to San Jose, Oakland or San Francisco. Alternatively, try booking a flight to nearby airports and taxi/bus/train to San Jose/Santa Clara.
  • In the USA, flying is often just as cheap (and much faster!) as going by train or bus, so don't assume ground transport will be the best value.
  • Local airlines may have deals: Delta, AirTran, JetBlue SouthWest or Spirit (Oakland Only). Many will charge separately for hold luggage and other perks.
  • Their are 3 airports to choose from : San Fran and Oakland (38 Minutes away from Levi's Stadium) and San Jose (10 minutes away from Levi's Stadium).
  • Unlike New Orleans, you will be able to get to the Bay Area easy VIA Amtrak. Use Code V636 to save 15% off of your travel, expires 8/31

ACCOMMODATION:

GETTING AROUND THE BAY AREA:

  • VTA.org will give you information about getting around San Jose and Silicon Valley
  • Bart.org will give you information about getting around San Francisco and Oakland
  • Caltrain.com will give you information to get between San Francisco and San Jose
  • Be advised, It is 8.5 miles from Downtown San Jose to Levi's Stadium. Both VTA and CalTrans will have service going to and from the Stadium, it is unclear if AmTrak will as well.

3. THE WRESTLEMANIA WEEKEND EXPERIENCE

(These will be made soon)
  • Head to this Facebook page for meet-ups, etc.
  • There's a pretty big Facebook event page made up of (mostly) people from this forum. Check it out here.

MERCHANDISE: Never fear: the WWE will take every opportunity to get money from you. They usually operate a big WWE Store on the stadium grounds with all the goodies. One thing I like (because I always get a souvenir program) is that you can buy program at any time - so you don't have to look after it during an event.

4. BAY AREA TOURISM

  • The Bay Area Maps (all credit goes to aaaaaaaahhhhhh.)
    WrestleMania Travel Map
    Food Map
    Drink Map
    Hotel Map
    Activities Map

  • Firstly, WikiVoyage and Tripadvisor are your friends.
  • You will be driving distance of many popular tourist spots along the West Coast.

(Roughly within a 4 hour drive)

    Napa Valley
    Reno, NV
    Monterey,CA (Pebble Beach)
    Lake Tahoe
    Yosemite National Park
    Sequoia National Park

(Roughly within a 8 hour drive)

    Death Valley
    Los Angeles
    Las Vegas
    Grand Canyon
    Redwood's National Forest
    Portland, OR
    San Diego

FOOD & DRINK:

  • (Area I will need help in filling in for food. The Bay area is known for seafood and San Francisco style burritos. There is a Chinatown in SF and a Japantown in SJ)
  • Drinking age in the US is 21, and it's extremely rare to find any bar or shop that doesn't require ID. For international visitors, this usually means you'll have to carry your passport to bars, etc, as often this is the only form of international ID that will be accepted.
  • Do a bit of research and you can find something a bit more authentic to suit any budget.

    Local delicacies include:

Definally eating:Links to menus inside names of restaurants.
Carl's Jr.: Fast food burgers with unique combinations. Favorites are the Western Bacon Cheeseburger (Onion Rings, Bacon and Smoky BBQ sauce) and the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich (Green Chilie and Santa Fe Sauce which is a bold mildly spicy sauce.) Haven't ate there since moving back east.

In-n-Out: Fresh fast food burger joint. Personal favorite is the cheeseburger (single or double-double), grilled whole onion, made animal style (extra thousand island sauce, melted cheese and patty is marinated in mustard before grilling) extra toast (bun is grilled), animal style fries, well done (extra crispy) and either Bubble Up (7-Up/Pink Lemonade Mix) or a neapolitan shake (strawberry, chocolate and vanilla shale in one cup)

GHIRARDELLI Ice Cream And Chocolate Shop in SF: Ice Cream Sundaes

Chick-Fil-A: Fast Food chicken sandwich's. Personal recommendation is a Spicy Chicken Biscuit for breakfast, honey on the side or a Spicy Chicken Sandwich with Jack Cheese and mayo on the side for lunch/dinner with waffle fries and lemonade.

BJ's Restaurant and Brewery: American causal fare with hand crafted sodas, microbrew beers and home of the Pizookie, a fresh baked pan cookie in several flavors topped with ice cream. Food is pretty good

Fogo de Chao: Brazilian Steakhouse, all you can eat table side service. Has a world class salad bar to boot.

Iguanas Home of the Burritozilla: SF style mexican street food (tortas, tacos, burritos)

The Poor House: Authentic New Orleans food. I seriously need a po boy and a beignet. Been having withdraws since leaving New Orleans.

    Probably eating:
El Pollo Loco: Mexican style fast food grilled chicken.

Will not be eating but would recommend:

The Cheesecake Factory: Huge portions of everything, plus cheesecake. Recommend the Buffalo Blast (Buffalo Chicken and cheese wrapped in won tong wrappers, deep fried and served with buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing) Several cheesecakes that I like include the Trimisu, Red Velvet, Godiva Chocolate and Reese's PB.

The Boiling Crab: Seafood: Famous for low country/cajun boil. Do not recommend if you do not eat shellfish.

Red Robin: Specialty Burgers with unlimited fries. Personal recommendation: Blue Ribbon Burger
  • Local eateries featured on Man v Food, Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and other Food Network/Travel Network shows
    http://www.tvfoodmaps.com/

NIGHTLIFE:
San Jose Bar and Grill
Johnny V's
Freddie J's
Dive Bar
Lido Nightclub and Bar
Giza Hookah Lounge

HISTORY & TOURISM:

  • Many visitors will take in Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge/Park, The Apple Store at Apple's HQ among other activities
  • San Fran tourist centre is very LGBT-friendly, with several gay clubs & bars.

5. TRAVEL PACKAGE INFORMATION

Now Wrestlemania 30 has passed, it's time to start planning for 31. Only 3/4 months until the travel packages go on sale.

Who's planning on going? Travel plans? Package or buying everything separate? What should we expect in Cali?

I'll keep this updated with prices and tips.

Wrestlemania XXXI/31 -
Levi’s Stadium
Silicon Valley (Santa Clara, California)
29th March 2015

  • The San Jose Convention Center will play host to WrestleMania Axxess
  • The 2015 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Monday Night Raw will take place at San Jose’s SAP Center.

Travel Packages on sale - July/August
Wrestlemania tickets on sale - November?
Raw/HOF tickets on sale - January?

Re: Wrestlemania 31 - Travel thread.

I booked my hotel at the Hilton Santa Clara last week as soon as they went up for reservations. 5 minute walk to Levi's Stadium. Might change it later on rates and such.
Based on the small research i've done so far, Santa Clara doesn't really look to interesting.

Can any UK fans who've done it before give any indication on a rough budget?
I spent around £2500 - £3000 in Miami for WM28.

Re: Wrestlemania 31 - Travel thread.

I'm looking to go next year, hopefully I can get three other people and we can book a travel package. It's difficult doing that though when I don't really know anybody who is enough of a fan as I am to spend that much money on wrestling.

Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

4.5 hour drive from me, so I am 100% going. I'm hoping it's a great show, but the experience alone should be amazing.

Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

Maybe.. It's all about the money for me. I really want to go but it's a long long way.

Same here, plus I don't really have anyone to go with, and I don't like traveling alone.

I've always wanted to go to Cali, but Santa Clara is so far away from San Fran and L.A, that I probably wouldn't go unless the card would be really good.

WM 32 however being in AT&T Stadium would be great. 80,000+ people packed would be INSANE. Plus Dallas to my knowledge is a pretty big city.

Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

5 hour drive for me. It's the closest I've been to Wrestlemania since 21. Too bad I can't go :(

Then again, I live like half an hour away from Staples and have not been to Summerslam either :lmao

#13 · (Edited)
Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

I go every two years so i'll be going to this one, gutted I missed 30 and the Raw after as they have been the best WM and night after that i've ever seen.

Hilton Santa Clara is a good shout, might book it right now actually. I'm hoping it won't be much more expensive than going to NY but flights are a fair bit more expensive from the UK.

Not that interested in going to the HOF, but wanna do a few axxess events, then do Mania and the Raw the night after.

#16 ·
Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

Just booked into Embassy Suites Santa Clara, it's only about 1 mile from the stadium so should be ideal. Flights are about £650 from the UK, and the hotel has cost me £550 for 3 nights(sat, sun, mon), but there are loads of cheaper places out there if you're on a tighter budget.

Gonna get $500ish tickets, so in total i'm hoping it'll cost me about £2000 for the 3 days i've booked.

Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

Might go with my Dad or Cousin will probably have to book everything separately Will probably just be going to Axxess,Wrestlemania, and Raw. Hopefully Sandows on the Card even it its just the second Andre the Giant Battle Royal that guy has potential,

Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

I would love to go but I need to see where my money is at come July/August when the packages go on sale and if the timing is good for me.

#21 ·
Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

As much as I'd love to go, I won't.

My first mania was 28 and I don't think I'll ever get that feeling that I had there. To walk in and see the set for the first time ever brings upon so many emotions and as much as I loved this year, I would be content to watch it at home and save myself 3 grand.

As I write this, I know I'll spend now until ticket sales to convince myself why I should go and spend even more money on tickets lol.

#22 ·
Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

Got back from NO yesterday for my first WM, and I'm already :ex: for next year. Definitely going, just trying to figure out if I want to do a package or book everything separate.

#24 · (Edited)
Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

Last few years I've had the money sitting there to buy a travel package and through a lack of interest, I've spent it elsewhere. Problem is I regret it around 'Mania time. If it isn't the Royal Rumble, then it's certainly the week leading up to it that the regret starts to build.

If it isn't for the event, then it's for the sake of a good holiday, something I haven't had for a few years now.

Thinking of booking everything separately. Axxess doesn't really interest me and I'd be looking at a decent stay in SF.

#25 ·
Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

I only had to buy tickets for Mania+Raw for 2000 and 21 since they're in my backyard. Drove to Phoenix for XXVI but missed Raw the following night since my friend and I both had work on Tuesday. Wanted to spend an extra day doing tourist-y stuff in Miami so we missed that Raw.

For 31, I'm not sure if one or two of my friends are going but I'm 99.9% certain that one of them will be (he's gone with me to 2 previous Manias). We'll definitely be doing the full monty of Axxess + Hall of Fame + Mania + Raw for next year. Probably going to stay in Frisco and just drive to Santa Clara for Mania. While I wouldn't mind doing a package, we just save so much more money doing everything separately. Sure, there's more legwork needed to be done but I honestly don't mind doing my homework and budgeting from there.

Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

I'll definitely be at 'Mania since my goal is every 'Mania from 30-50. I met Daniel Bryan this year so I'll only do Axxess if it gives me the chance to meet Flair and The Rock. If Steve Austin was a VIP, I'm sure most of us would jump on that as well. I'll book everything separately. I'm gonna get a $500 ticket and try for ringside Raw tickets.

I've been toying with getting cheaper Mania tickets and trying to get as close to ringside as possible for Raw.

So what do you guys think is better? Booking separately or travel packages?

Are the travel package seats in a certain price range better than the seats you would get in that price range if you book separately, etc?

I'm booking separately, just prefer the freedom of it although a package with Raw the night after included got my mate quality seats last year.

I'm unsure about this one. Everything seems too far. NOLA was great with all being walking distance. But if you want to tour in San Francisco, go to a baseball/hockey game and obviously WM31...sounds like an expensive/exhausting trip.

I'm not sure yet if I should go or take a rest after being at 3 straight WMs, and plan a different kind of trip not wrestling related. Have to think about it really well.

Im actually thinking the same a little lol, I been to 3 ina row now, and it gonna be real hard to top this year, but the stadium looks so awesome, I can only picture how the set up will be for that and also if all that is said is true....then UNDERTAKER should be going in the Hall of Fame and I CAN NOT MISS IT!!

I book travel packages, they are easier, and the prices arent that much different, and personally I dont mind paying a little extra for convienence

Re: Wrestlemania 31 - The Ultimate Travel Thread II

Quick question I am saving up for mania 31 How much will it have to save up. flights silver package ect.
I usually save for two people me and my girl.....I budget roughly $4,000 for the package could be less but I like to have extra and roughly $1,000 in flights (again could be less)

then i tend to bring $2,500 with me for the entire weekend trip for us, however I always bring home money this year I brought $2,500 and came home with $1600 so i spent about $900 on two people for the weekend.

depends on what package you want.
