My whole issue with 29 was the lack of theatrics with the main event. No hype promo, no elaborate entrances, no nothing. It was like a RAW match. There was no cool down match since the mixed tag match got cut, so nobody was ready for this. Cena's music just hit and I thought "why the hell is he coming out to cut a promo in the middle of the show?" then he did the whole talk to the camera salute thing and I was "Oh jesus, they're doing this NOW?"
I didn't care. The crowd was dead for it because the pacing was off completely. I didn't mind 29, it just had a horrible ending. WM's with a "9" in it are botchy anyways lol.
I'm very biased towards this WrestleMania as it's the first and perhaps only WrestleMania I'll ever attend. I had a blast there. The overall booking of the show was pretty bad though and it didn't leave me all that excited for the product going forward at the time, mainly because two of the biggest matches on the card were rematches in which the guys that lost the first time got their win back. If I didn't attend it, I'd call it a very forgettable WrestleMania. Nothing really stands out as being bad, but it really didn't have anything all that memorable, and that shouldn't happen at a WrestleMania. To the show's credit though, the live experience of The Undertaker vs. CM Punk was fuckin awesome. The crowd died after that and I remember not caring for HHH vs. Brock and Cena vs. Rock until the finishing stretches of both matches. The pacing of the show, particularly towards the end was bad. The fact that they had to cancel that 8-man tag that was suppose to happen before Cena vs. Rock to cool the crowd down because of poor time management is unacceptable, especially at a WrestleMania. I remember when Cena came out for the match and just being confused as it came out of nowhere. They should've at least replayed that video package that they showed earlier. The overall atmosphere of the show was amazing. Too bad the booking of the show didn't match it.
1. The weakest 6 man tag The Shield has wrestled on PPV
2. Neither Fandango or Big E impressed me during their debut matches
3. Mark Henry beating Ryback was poor booking and the match was boring
4. The WHC match wasn't given enough time
5. The two main events were predictable rematches that nobody cared about
Yeah, crazy how Jack and Rio had 2 great matches after MANIA. I'm pretty sure Ziggler would have cashed in that day if they didn't have a lack lustre ryback heel turn ready for RAW and something bigger planned.
It was pretty crappy. The first Rock/Cena match was better. The Triple H/Lesnar match fell flat. Fandango/Jericho was nothing special and it served no purpose. Ryback losing to Mark Henry was completely stupid. The previous Shield matches were a lot better than that one. Kane/Bryan vs Big E/Ziggler was just filler. The only good thing about it Punk/Undertaker which I loved.
Man, I loved the finish to Brock vs. HHH. It was on my feet for that. I think it's just bad luck that Brock got semi-concussed during that. Also HHH had some bad burns right before the match.
Cena/Rock II was definitely a good match. Not a classic but it was the result that needed to happen at the end of WrestleMania. If I could change one thing, Cena would have made Rock tap out with the STF. I was begging for it. A submission victory would have been the exclamation point!
