It was cringey as fuck, but even if Bray and Randy come on and put on a great ending to the match these fans will shit on it. Such a shame for Bray Wyatt. I wanted this to be good. Still has potential but the fans will ruin it whether it's good or not.
When you pay for tickets for a PPV you don't expect to be watching a screen for 15 minutes. The fact the match was garbage doesn't help, neither does it being on straight after watching a hometown champ lose.
I don't know why they'd expect the crowd to react any differently.
Hell I'm STILL pissed about the Cena/JBL Parking Lot Brawl from Great American Bash 2008 that I attended!
I had the worst seat in the house, top row behind the stage. Fine. I could see the ring and I was 18 and made $8 an hour and that's what I could afford. I could see the ring and it was awesome. But when the parking lot brawl started I realized I could not see a single screen. I bought the DVD for like $4 at FYE a few years later and that was the first time I saw most of the match.
This proves that posters claiming for a "return of the AE" are full of shit, it's not 1998 anymore, kids and teenagers are way too spoiled for this segments.
It made me laugh several times. The part where the tractor rolls past Randy as he's walking up to the house in particular made me laugh. Randy's facial expressions were priceless. I also laughed at the part where Bray pushed a filthy fridge onto Orton. It was pretty damn hilarious. The result was made predictable, but overall I didn't hate it.
The concept itself is a good one and I appreciate them thinking outside the box, but you always knew that it was going to be shit purely because WWE can't help being WWE.
What would have made this awesome would've been if you'd had the footage done proper creepy style. Going up to the house you could have streamed it straight from Randy's phone and he talks into saying he's nervous and not sure where this location is etc. Then when the car pulls up switch over to "CCTV" cameras that are setup inside and outside the house. Follow Orton as he breaks in and then follow the fight on each camera as they go through the rooms. That would have given it a more gritty and realistic, possibly more scary vibe.
As it was, it was over-produced, corny and micro-managed. Everything you would expect from WWE. What should have been something incredibly unique and interesting actually looked very cringeworthy and low budget. The irony being that if they had chosen the lower budget route it probably would've come across better.
I really liked it but I probably would've booed it if I was there live; if you've ever seen a live taping you'd know that it's hard to see the screen from a lot of places and the sound is shit. I went to Raw 2 weeks before Mania and I couldn't hear a gotdamn thing from any of the backstage segments. It was annoying as fuck just watching 2 minute promos on the tron, I couldn't imagine seeing a 15 minute match on it.
WWE logistics fail. They should've made the HOH match a WWE Network exclusive.
1. There was no tension in the match because pinfalls/submissions couldn't happen outside of the ring, so whatever was happening in the pre-recorded footage, no one cared.
2. Why would the Limo driver accept Bray Wyatt getting in the limo when he took Orton.
3. How did Orton not sell the fridge falling on him
4. How did Orton BEAT Bray Wyatt to the arena from not only being hurt but beat the LIMO Bray took to the arena.
5. There was no urgency transition back to the arena, most hardcore segments that go from outside to the arena, have the men beating each other all the way into the arena. This just had Bray slowly going back to the ring, waiting for a very telegraphed setup of Orton coming out.
6. The horrible school boy and sister abigail exchange was sloppy with both men blowing their respective moves.
7. The very sloppy cluster finish (although I was happy to see Jinder and The Singh Brothers) did nothing to make either man look good, so no one gained anything, aside from Jinder for heat into his feud.
There's the reason why the Broken Hardy segments got it, there was some actual continuity checks in those. Here, there was a lot of continuity errors and the in-ring portions ended up being poor wrestling. That's why the match was a failure and this is why it was "boring" as they said.
All those things were why it was campy/silly/unintentionally funny but not why people booed or chanted "boring", there's no way to make a segment that long shown on today's tiny trons appealing. The Booker/SCSA grocery store fight would've gotten booed if people could barely see it or hear it.
I would have been pissed too, if I had to spend all that watching a match on the tron. The people watching at home likely got way more out of that than the fans in the arena did. Plus, the sound in the arena is awful sometimes and it's hard to understand anything.
Best part of the match was in the live thread and people's comments. My favourite was some guy who said he realised while watching that he and Bray had the same stove And somebody else said Randy would ride Sister Abigail's bike to the arena :lmao
And the stupidest bit might have been Bray still out of breath getting OUT of the limo lol. In the storyline, he was in the limo throughout the Seth/Joe match and he was still out of breath? :lol
I'm not surprised the crowd rejected it. Bad placement after Bayley's loss, and the house portion of the match was more comedic than enthralling. The feud has stunk to high heaven.
I get the stipulation was like the first Boiler Room Brawl match at Summerslam 1996, start out in the house just like Mankind and Taker started out in the boiler room and then had to make their way out to the ring to win the match and that's okay but the house part of the match was absolutely horrible and part hilarious. It was like a bad campy B horror movie with cheesy horror music, special effects etc. And campy B horror movies can be good but this one was just really really really shit. Had they done the house part of the match without all of that and just let them fight like Taker and Mankind had an awesome fight in the boiler room part of their Boiler Room Brawl without all of that shit, the House Of Horrors could've gone better.
Bray has seriously went from my favourite WWE superstar (on Nxt) to a guy I want out of the company. I am just praying for him to ask for his release at this point. This man is a joke, a joke without a set up or punch line.
And to all those people that hated the house of horror and really want Matt to have back the Broken Gimmick... Remember this is the company who has control of it now...
A huge part of the problem is that it made no goddamn sense. Having it have to finish in the ring was absolute nonsense given that the house was supposedly at least a 20 minute drive away. So they're supposed to kick each other's arses, get in a damn car and be driven to the arena just to finish it like a normal match? What bullshit is that? No continuity whatsoever. If Bray was so certain Randy wouldn't even make it out of the house then why bother with the arena stuff? And was anyone ever meant to believe it wasn't pre-recorded? Just... why, to any of it? If the whole thing had taken place in one location, or at least have the house very close to the arena so they could make their way back while still brawling, it would have made a lot more sense. Then to overbook the finish like that just made absolutely no sense and I am so done.
