Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho

Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho’s rivalry may have started with just subtle signs of tension, but it has quickly intensified into a bitter conflict, as they prepare to settle their differences at WWE Payback on Sunday, May 1, live on the award-winning WWE Network.

Did animosity between The Lunatic Fringe and WWE’s first Undisputed Champion truly begin – as Jericho himself suggested – on the April 7 SmackDown? The Ayotollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla made his entrance for Thursday night’s main event as a victorious Ambrose was still making his way back to the locker room after his contest. This encounter was questionable at the very least, and could easily be construed as a sign of disrespect, especially coming from an arrogant veteran such as Jericho.

There is, however, a chance these two Superstars’ disdain for one another began all the way back at WWE Night of Champions 2015, when they fought on the same side, along with Roman Reigns, in a losing effort against The Wyatt Family. After the bout, the nine-time Intercontinental Champion shoved his way past the former Shield members, walking up the ramp in a huff. Regardless of whether this or their recent SmackDown exchange sparked the hostility between Ambrose and Jericho, either way, these two in-ring greats clearly just don’t like each other.

The always unpredictable Ambrose raised tensions further on the April 11 Raw when he interrupted Jericho’s famed “Highlight Reel” segment to deliver a letter from Shane McMahon, which stated that the Fozzy rocker’s talk show had been cancelled in favor of the unstable Superstar’s debuting “Ambrose Asylum.” This – along with a subsequent Dirty Deeds to the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion – left the foes at a point of no return.

On the April 18 Raw in London, Shane McMahon made sure the WWE Universe would see these adversaries clash in a dream matchup, by officially pitting the two against one another at WWE Payback. Can Ambrose bring the cocky Jericho’s out-of-control ego down a few notches, or will The Man of 1,004 holds prove once again that he truly is The Best in the World At What He Does? Find out live on WWE Network Sunday, May 1, at 8 ET/5 PT.
Ambrose to send Jericho back to Fozzy (or at least Extreme Rules).

Just got back from the show. Looked for this post specifically. Ambrose BLOWS. His move set is horrendous. His facial expressions are clownish. He sucked the air out of the crowd. My son fell asleep in his chair during the match. Woke him up and he wanted to go home because the match was still on and he wanted to see AJ wrestle. I convinced him to stay. But for the love of god turn Ambrose heel and change his moves.

I don’t like how this feud has been mostly about comedy. I’m just tired of “I’m Crazy LOL” Dean Ambrose. Because I know is so much better than that. He’s so great as the this dark, psychotic character that he can be as face or heel. But now they just have him doing this comedy shtick.

Look I’m not saying he’s not funny at times. He can do it to an extent. And also, I know there is a younger demographic out there that probably loves that stuff. I just think you’re wasting the guy’s potential. At this point, even though I’ve been against it for so long, the only way we might get that dark character again is if he turns heel.

And also, Jericho is the perfect heel to bring that dark character out. Jericho is great at poking the hornet’s nest. This feud with the right story could be amazing. But this just is what it is for me.

But, these two have done the best with what they’ve been given and I know they’ll have a good match. And on a show with a lot of other great matches on it, I’ll accept it.

Re: Spoiler: New Match Made

Zayn vs owens and Ambrose vs Y2J

I saw it coming, it was only a matter of time to make it offical

Here's the match card for Payback:

AJ vs Roman
Zayn vs Owens
Cesaro vs Miz
Charlotte vs Nat
Enzo and Cass vs Vaudevillains (tournament Final)
Ambrose vs Y2J
Ziggler vs Corbin
Becky vs Emma (could be on the KickOff)

Here's the match card for Payback:

AJ vs Roman
Zayn vs Owens
Cesaro vs Miz
Charlotte vs Nat
New Day vs Vaudevillains (tournament winners)
Ambrose vs Y2J
Ziggler vs Corbin
Duddley Boys vs Enzo and Cass
Becky vs Emma (could be on the KickOff)
Looks like a solid card to me. If anyone ain't digging this, then just stop watching WWE altogether.

This feud is tumbleweed city.

The match is the biggest darkhorse on the card with the most to prove.

Ambrose will win at Payback and I expect them to have a rematch at Extreme Rules. I could see Jericho attacking Ambrose next Monday on Raw with a chair or something beating him down. Which could lead to a Falls Count Anywhere rematch at Extreme Rules. I could even see them doing some stuff post Extreme Rules. But think they will either be in Money in the Bank Brief case match or possible multi-guy World title ladder match.

It's weird to suddenly see all the hate for both guys, who usually are both favorites around here. But this feud has been solid, yet unspectacular. Both guys have played their roles well, and the match should be fair to good. Hopefully Ambrose actually gets a win, as I don't think his stock could nosedive any quicker.

That's WF for you, quick as anything to turn on somebody. Whatever happened to loyalty to your favourites, I don't know.

I hope Dean wins too of course, and unlike a couple of years ago, beating Chris is actually helpful now. His stock has gone back up, they've made him look like a legit threat again, which is nice. Although it's funny cos AJ Styles lost to Chris at Mania and now he's #1 contender....

Didn’t really care about this match until last night. But when Ambrose cut out the comedy and got serious, he showed why he’s one of the best. Great promo by Ambrose. Great promo from Jericho. It was just fun. I had fun watching those two jarring at each other with actual substance. To the point where now I’m invested in this match.

I think Ambrose wins. But, Extreme Rules is only 3 week after Payback which means we’re getting a bunch of rematches at ER. So with WWE’s 50/50 booking I could see Ambrose losing at Payback but beating Jericho at ER. Would rather they make their younger guy look strong but I could see this happening.

Yeah the 50/50 booking does need to stop. 50/50 booking should only apply when the people involved both need pushes. Jericho doesn't need the push but Dean does so he should win both matches against Y2J if they do in fact have a rubber match at ER. Dean beating someone like Y2J twice and on back to back ppvs at that would do him wonders.
