Making More Out of Randy Orton's 2 Strikes?

Before I get into the meat of this thread I want to post some facts. Randy Orton's last world title reign ended at Night of Champions 2011. Randy Orton was suspended on May 30th, 2012 for his second strike in WWE's Wellness Policy. His "Vacation" costed him appearances at Money In The Bank, Summerslam and Raw 1000, which was held in his home town of St. Louis.

Prior to his suspension he had been in Fatal Fourway for the World Heavyweight Championship and a feud with Sheamus was teased.

Now, the question I am asking is the legitimacy of his depushing has been BECAUSE of his 60 day suspension.

I'm not questioning whether or not it has had a factor, but if we're making it out that he's been despushed solely because of that.

Randy Orton has not headlined a PPV since Survivor Series 2010. Granted he was the champion going in to that PPV with the Nexus Storyline and John Cena a case could be made that he was only champion due to name value at the time and as a place holder for the storyline. Remember at Bragging Rights 2010 if Wade Barrett lost to Randy Orton, John Cena would be fired and at Survior Series the story still revolved around John Cena as referee and the Nexus. Without that storyline the last time he main evented was Night of Champions 2010. Yes, he did have a for month title reign, I'm not questioning that, only that he was not the focus of those last to PPV defenses.

He did have a hot storyline with Christian involving the WHC in 2011, however they never headlined a PPV. After that storyline he was moved out of the title picture as Mark Henry, Big Show, Sheamus and Daniel Bryan dominated the scene.

In late 2011 he was taken off TV repeatedly while shooting movies and injuries, but his feud with Barrett was pushed as an afterthought and it was really where Orton began going stale.

He headlined WM25 as a heel vs Triple H, that match wasn't given the best response and since then he has not either been in a whc, wwe or closing match at the PPV. We're going in Mania 29 and he technically isn't on the card yet, although it's a given he'll be in a match against the Shield.
Batista, John Cena, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Edge, The Miz, Alberto Del Rio, The Miz, Sheamus, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, The Rock and Jack Swagger. Have all either been in a WWE,WHC or Closing match of Wrestlemania from 26-29. With Randy Orton's name value I wonder why wasn't he given higher chances up the card. I'd say his highest profile math on Mania since 25 has been against CM Punk, and that wasn't really booked to look like a top match, and it wasn't even until MITB that Punk himself was booked as important.

It's not like he magically went irrelevant when he got suspended, but obviously hasn't been used to his full potential sense.

This is just my perspective, but Orton really hasn't given the office any reason to consider him for higher feuds. He came back from filming his movie, and has just showed no effort whatsoever. He delivers promos in the same sedated monotone every week, turns in the same three or four moves plus an RKO at the end of his randomly booked matches. He is the definition of that guy Daniel Bryan was talking about in Punk's DVD that just chills in the back, content to pick up a check and doesn't want to wrestle on the b-list shows like Superstars.

The problem isn't the second strike (well, not the only problem). The problem is Orton's daughter.

He doesn't want to wrestle anymore, he's got a kid and a wife and he wants to spend time with them. Fuck the road, fuck caring about his matches, he's a guy they have that can wrestle wherever they want him and he won't give two shits about anything else.

It's for the best, honestly. If he wasn't depushed, there wouldn't have been room for Sheamus, Punk or ADR at the top of the card. Three vastly superior wrestlers.

The WWE brass doesn't want to push someone they're unsure about. He's dropped the ball multiple times so why give it to the butterfingers?

I'll agree with you guys he does seem on TV to be going threw the motions and he hasn't seemed inspired since his matches with Christian.

Stopped here.

What everyone needs to understand is Orton hasn't been dropped, or "de-pushed", he's just been floating in the upper mid card because the WWE have been building up other stars. Not only face ones (Sheamus and ADR) but also heels (ADR when he was in a 4+ month feud with Sheamus); Orton is being used as a face upper-mid card guy, for fucking god knows why.

What I assume is that Orton is SUPPOSED TO be getting used as a star elevator, as in he's meant to be losing cleanly to heels to get them higher up the card.

However he's just getting aimless wins and being put in really stupid mini-feud/rivalries like always beating Ziggler and other random heels like Cesaro (I think), or having weird ass week-long disagreements with Kane and Bryan.

He is the most aimless star today - he hasn't been depushed, he's just been booked under NEWCOMERS.

If they wanted to make more out of Randy Orton's depush, they would actually put him in the midcard and use his name value and notoriety to build it up. An Orton/Barrett feud for the IC Title would be good to see, instead of them having meaningless matches over and over where Orton wins and then moves on without caring.

Either turn heel or just fuck off. That's my opinion on Orton right now. The guy has done nothing for 2 years.

As face, he's going to continue floating as an upper midcarder, while as a heel, he will have a chance to become main eventer again, due to lack of credible heels in WWE, and might even challenge Punk for the no.1 heel spot.

To those that say Orton isn't being depushed... why is it him who's done virtually nothing the last few years. You can't look at Orton's position the same way you look at most people on the roster. If he was Zack Ryder, he would've had a banner year last year a singles match at mania, a solid spot on pay-per-views regardless of how much he is or isn't doing, but he's not. He's Randy Orton, why isn't he in the mix with guys like the Rock and Brock Lesnar? Why did he not have one match with Punk during his year long reign? I understand making room for other guys but he was the number 2 guy in the company at one point. CM Punk, Sheamus, Chris Jericho, Big Show, Del Rio haven't all been as aimless as Orton has the last year. You could say the Miz might have, but that's about it really.

Because WWE creative are attention deficit and fuck everything up.
They think it's stupid to put a mid card title on a main event guy like Cena or Orton and probably Punk now, so Orton has been aimlessly wandering around between mid card and main event for the last two years.

Because of his strikes? Maybe, but I'd rather think it's because they are trying to build new guys up. What's it matter anyway? Orton's not very entertaining.
