And that is the same reason why Punk didn't get put over in his feud with Jericho. The WWE tried to protect Punk and worried about continuing his title reign instead of having Jericho beat him as soon as he came back. If Jericho had beaten Punk immediately and then Punk won the title back at Wrestlemania, after earning his Best in the World title, then he would've been a bigger star than he is now. Every time they coddle these PG Era stars and water down the legends, to feign the illusion of equality, those PG stars end up taking a hit in popularity.
That's a good point. The Jericho/Punk fued would've been MUCH better if Jericho won the title at Elimination Chamber and Punk won it back at WM. Punk retaining at Elimination Chamber is precisely the moment Punk stopped being interesting to me.
CM Punk would be a much more interesting wrestler if he wasn't forcefully pushed as a dominant, unbeatable guy. If he was the guy who fought things for change and occaisionally won and got them, he'd be far more interesting and popular right now imo. Instead, he's just another douchey top guy that WWE is pushing down our throats just like all the rest before him. I have zero interest in that.
Everything he says just comes off phony. It's hard to fool myself into believing that he's actually fighting anything or is so great and against WWE when it's WWE who's giving him the strong booking.

I also think that they have different styles.
Rock talks trash
Punk talks truth
Promo wise, Punk might be better than current Rock, but in his prime(1999), Rock was a differnt beast, and he would've eaten Punk alive.
You completely missed my point entirely. Their "style of promo" doesn't matter. The Rock wasn't allowed to actually use his style of promo uncensored against CM Punk rather than be forced to put him over as a force and a threat then not be allowed to say anything threatening or demeaning back in response to being threatened to get his ass beat right to his face. That's my sole beef with the way it's been scripted. The level of protection WWE has afforded for Punk has been sickening.
Also, CM Punk hasn't actually said much truth. He usually doesn't either. It's trash talk veiled as truth. "I'm the best in the world", for example, isn't a fact dude, it's just trash talk. The only facts CM Punk ever says are how long WWE has booked his reign, and what wins WWE has booked for him. Shit we already know that isn't interesting. The rest is usually just trash talk too.
