Christian, BigShow (the previous one losing in like 1 minute), or Ziggler's first.

I thought Mark henry got the highest ratings ever for Smackdown? Isn't that what you asked OP?

I am casting my vote for John Bradshaw Layfield's title reign. The man is a wrestling god and his reign was nothing more than brilliant, although if you ask me, it should have gone on for longer.

Re: What Was SmackDown's Most Successful Reign Ever?

Also, just some info because you asked for cold, hard facts.

SD ratings under Rock's reign:

7/25/02: 3.3
8/1/02: 3.1
8/8/02: 2.7 Rock did not make an appearance on this taping
8/15/02: 3.5
8/22/02: 3.6

I don't know how much influence Rock directly had on these ratings since we don't have quarter hour breakdowns for Smackdown. Also, ratings during Brock's reign were roughly equal although PPV buys post-Rock fell off big time.

As for PPV numbers, Summerslam 2002 was considered a big success with 520K buys and Rock/Lensar was obviously the major selling point and you had HBK's return as well to a lesser extent. Unforgiven, No Mercy and SvS all did underwhelming numbers.

As for live gates and attendances, I remember hearing they were down during the mid 02 period because Hogan (worked only a certain # of dates) and Rock (movie schedule) were not available but I don't have exact numbers for the Rock's reign specifically. I'm not even sure how many house shows he worked tbh. All I can say is they drew a huge gate in Australia (record crowd of nearly 57K) for the Global Warming tour during Rock's reign (main event was Rock/Brock/HHH). Hogan was advertised for this event as well so you can give him partial credit.

Re: What Was SmackDown's Most Successful Reign Ever?

The real answer lies in the pre-2005 era. So it goes down to The Rock, Lesnar, Big Show, Angle, Eddie G. The Rock's and Big Show's reign were short lived. So it narrows down to Lesnar, Angle & Eddie G. In terms of ratings, gate receipts, PPV buys, those are high when Lesnar and Angle dominating the brand. So it narrows down to who is more entertaining? The only answer is the man who has all the package: Kurt Angle.
