Re: Was Smackdown ever the flagship show of WWF/WWE?

I can't remember which years they happend, but people seem to forget the fact that there was this pay-per-view event called "Bragging Rights", where Smackdown! fought against Raw to see which show would be the dominate one. Smackdown! won the trophy two years straight as the dominate show.

I am just saying.

No. As a matter of fact.

I actually felt like they did a good job of balancing out the rosters in 2005.

Smackdown was never the flagship show nor it was ever better than RAW. RAW was always superior.

Nope, not at any point in time was it the flagship show. You could argue it had a better product here and there throughout its history, but that's really subjective opinion, and it doesn't make it the A-show.

2007-2008 Smackdown was the better brand IMO.

Re: Was Smackdown ever the flagship show of WWF/WWE?

Smackdown was never the flagship show, but the WWE did treat it as equal to Raw for a while. Smackdown originally had the Rock, Lesnar, Angle and Hogan and Raw had Austin, HHH, and The Undertaker. Austin left and HBK basically took his spot on the card. The Rock went to Hollywood and Hogan took half of 2002 off, so they shifted the Undertaker to Smackdown. They really tried to keep both rosters even at that time.

It was better than Raw in 2003. The Brock/Angle/Taker trio plus Vince and Stephanie's involvement put Raw to the sword that year.

Re: Was Smackdown ever the flagship show of WWF/WWE?

Back from the show's debut to the brand extension, it was on near equal footing. Important shit happened on Smackdown, and it pulled in huge ratings. Watch any of the promos from like, WM-17- all of them have a ton of important happenings on Smackdown. You HAD to watch both shows back then. And it was still big for a bit after the BE. But moving to Friday....man oh fucking man, did that kill the show. No logical reason why that happened. Nobody wants to stay in and watch TV on a Friday night. They need to move it back, ASAP.
