I never had a N64 as a kid, although I spent a lot of my time on WWF Attitude, the WCW games, Anarchy Rulz and all the Smackdown Series.

I've always preferred Shut Your Mouth than Here Comes The Pain. The roster was just better IMO. Listing all those who weren't in the other game:

SYM - Al Snow, Billy Gunn, Billy Kidman, Bradshaw, Chuck Palumbo, DDP, Faarooq, Hardcore Holly, Hulk Hogan, Jeff Hardy, Mark Henry, Maven, Raven, Scotty 2 Hotty, Shawn Stasiak, Spike Dudley, Tazz, William Regal, X-Pac

HCTP - Batista, Charlie Haas, Chavo Guerrero, Eric Bischoff, Goldberg, John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Rodney Mack, Scott Steiner, Sean O'Haire, Shelton Benjamin, Steven Richards, Ultimo Dragon, Old School Taker, Roddy Piper

I just preferred SYM because I guess I still liked wrestling. HCTP was my last wrestling game before WWE 13 and as much as I enjoyed it, I was growing out of wrestling at that point.

Last one I bought was 2008 for literally 25 seconds before deciding it was shit and took it back.
The very odd time I still play 2007.

Always liked the Smackdown series especially the earlier games in the series: Undertaker & Kane vs Torrie Wilson & Stacey Kiebler in Hell in a Cell. Those were the days.

HCTP has never been the best game in the WWE series, when SYM and SVR 2006 are better.

pretty stupid that we can't have men vs women matches anymore. also the fact that in a mixed tag match if you hit the woman with a man you get disqualified but not of you hit the man with a woman. Stupid sexist double standart

Yes, I still think Here Comes the Pain is the best WWE game ever made. It has an amazing roster of people to choose from, an ass-kicking soundtrack that gets your blood pumping, a control scheme that is very easy to understand, in-game mechanics that aren't so realistic that they slow the match pacing down like in newer entries, no repetitive commentary, an addictive season mode, and difficulties that offer exactly what you'd expect from a high-caliber WWE game. The easy difficulty is, well, easy, while the SmackDown! difficulty gives you one hell of a challenge. The last time I played on SmackDown! difficulty, I played as The Rock and lost to Chris Jericho in a long, but very fun match that consisted of us constantly outdoing each other in an endless series of strike and grapple reversals. I was pissed that I lost, but really enjoyed the challenging factor that the SmackDown! difficulty gave me, something that is lost in today's WWE games.

SVR2006 was fucking awful. In what way was it better than HCTP, or even an improvement over the previous game SVR?

Aside from the legends roster which iirc was pretty great. But having great legends in a shitty game means fuck all.

I loved SYM's roster. Also thought the character models looked much better. Not to mention a better Season Mode. Doing the draft was really awesome. I just always found myself being bored with HCTP.

SYM is the greatest. Hours and hours spent playing that game.
