Re: Take Two Owner Of 2k And Rockstar Buys WWE's Video Game License

I'm not really opposed to 2K or whoever taking it over. Overall, it can't really hurt to give it a shot. One thing I would like to see happen with WWE games again is any actual Season mode like Shut Your Mouth or Here Comes The Pain for example. Could live with or without Universe mode staying, though. I'd be real happy if an HCTP style free roaming came back into play.

I'm not against the switch and I'll be looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Fucking amazing news! I hope Take Two uses concepts from all companies under their umbrella, so we see a RTW storyline from the creators of Bioshock(as someone above mentioned), free roaming backstage and outside concepts from Rockstar, attention to detail and uniqueness from Ek sports, an rpg element to determine how someone like, say Heath Slater levels up and becomes an all time great megastar overtime from the creators of borderlands, and just an overall complete and fun game from all of their contributions.

I'm stoked!

Re: Take Two Owner Of 2k And Rockstar Buys WWE's Video Game License

This doesn't mean anything until the next WWE game and it's developer is announced

2K Games is just the publisher, they have creative input over the design and content of the game and direct the developers. But the way the game plays is truly down to who develops it. Overall it could mean nothing but a new look for WWE games because 2K games could just hire the guys behind THQ's WWE games and YUKEs to develop it on top of WWE13 and make an instant game this year and begin revenue. Or they could start a fresh with their own studios and a new system, but that could take year's to develop meaning a loss in revenue throughout for both 2K Games and WWE.

2K Games will likely work in agreement with WWE to hire THQ's WWE department and work with YUKEs to be able to create a game this year. It's best for business, same game with a new banner.

THQ. Already confirmed that their version of WWE 14 would be the last one made by them.

Re: Take Two Owner Of 2k And Rockstar Buys WWE's Video Game License

Ah I missed the memo then haha

That said even two years is extremely short for 2K Games to pull out a wrestling game from scratch with any of their studios. The TNA iMPACT game took Midway three years and that was bare bones at best. Also taking into account that starting from scratch they would need to win fans over with the new system and that a poor outcome could have casual fans of the brand turned away from the games.

In the interest of business it would be a better investment to employ the THQ WWE department and work with YUKEs to be able to pump out the games as a yearly product.

I just hope they retain the same customization options and possibilities for the Create a Wrestler. i'd just HATE that to suffer a major downgrade.. despite the yukes games repetitive gameplay, the customization options is what kept me coming back.

Maybe a better free roam version of SVR 2011.

Re: Take Two Owner Of 2k And Rockstar Buys WWE's Video Game License

This means very little. Take Two will just be taking on publishing duties. Yukes will still be developing the game. I can't find the article, but they've already said that WWE 14 is in development.

Also, I feel that WWE 13 was a step down from the previous effort. The Attitude Era mode wasn't all that great and the Universe mode, for all of Heymans alleged involvement, has only disappointed me.

Re: Take Two Owner Of 2k And Rockstar Buys WWE's Video Game License

I'm optimistic only for the possibility of a non-Yukes/THQ game. If Take-Two decided to keep Yukes on just for "easy money" then they can piss off and I'll just stick to playing SYM/HCTP. I would like to think that Take-Two have enough creative pride to do their own take on the WWE Franchise instead of just merely being the publisher to Yukes' shit. WWE 14 is apparently still planned from Yukes, but I know I won't be playing it unless someone gives it to me for free. Crossing my fingers we get something new in the world of wrestling gaming.
