Best WWE games for each console?

Sort of an in-depth discussion thread. Choose the best 2-3 WWE (or WCW) games for a particular console.

Playstation 1: I thought Smackdown and Smackdown 2 were the best wrestling games for that console. I had WWE War Zone as well, but it wasn't nearly as good as Smackdown.

I liked the RPG elements of building up your own wrestler, going through his career, and being able to completely set all his moves and stuff. The story modes weren't as developed as later, but they were still fairly new and fun at the time.

Post about your favorite wrestling games for any console or multiple if you want.

Re: Best WWE games for each console?

While I own a bunch for the NES and SNES, I haven't put much time into them to really see what's good or bad, so I'll start with:

N64
3. WWF WrestleMania 2000
2. WCW/NWO Revenge
1. WWF No Mercy

Not much needs to be said as most people know of the greatness of No Mercy. The other 2 games are essentially the same in terms of gameplay, but the improved story/career mode in NM places it ahead of the other 2, though the roster for WCW/NWO Revenge does make me :mark:.

PS1
3. WCW Mayhem
2. WWF Smackdown
1. WWF Smackdown 2

Mayhem back in the day was one of my favourites. Doesn't hold up as well as the SD games though, but like Revenge on the N64, the roster is pretty awesome. Smackdown is great for incorporating new match types that we either hadn't seen in WWF/WCW games or hadn't seen since the old 2D games on NES/SNES that weren't exactly great :p. Smackdown 2 takes everything SD 1 did well... and improves it. More matches, bigger roster, faster gameplay, better career mode (first year of it incorporating actual storylines from the WWF in 2000 was awesome, then it turns into what we see today as "Universe" mode, except this kept my interest for a LOT longer).

Gamecube
3. WWE WrestleMania XIX
2. WWE Day or Reckoning
1. WWE Day of Reckoning 2

WM 19 isn't particularly good, but I needed 3 and the others are worst (WM 18, Crush Hour if it counts lol, Legends of Wrestling). DOR is fucking awesome, and has one of my favourite story modes ever as you start off as a nobody wrestling in front of nobody, moving up to house shows, then choosing your brand (Raw or SD) and going to either Heat or Velocity, then finally getting to Raw or SD and building up to WM. Gameplay is really good, though the difficulty at times can be frustrating. Funny, games now aren't hard enough, but here it was almost TOO hard on hard mode in certain matches. DOR 2 though gets the balance absolutely PERFECT, and the story mode actually continues from the first game which is something I've been praising for years. Weight detection is great here, and while the match types didn't live up to the PS2 games at the time, its still a tremendous game and is in my top 3 wrestling games ever regardless.

Xbox

3. WWE Raw
2. WWE WrestleMania 21
1. WWE Raw 2

Again, Raw isn't good but I needed 3. In fact its fucking terrible. One of the worst WWE games I've ever played. WM 21 was the last WWE game released on the original Xbox, and year it was ok, but it was also pretty dull. It wasn't really FUN to put the game in and play. Story mode is ok but I never wanted to replay it. Raw 2 was released in the middle, and was a monstrous improvement on Raw 1. Faster gameplay, better gameplay in general, incredible roster (one of the best), more matches types and while it doesn't hold up as well these days, I had a TON of fun back in the day. Season mode is similar to SD 2 and again held my interest for a hell of a lot longer than today's Universe mode could ever dream of.

PS2
3. Rumble Roses
2. WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2006
1. WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain

Firstly, I don't have Fire Pro Wrestling. It was never released over here, and while it was available in certain places in Europe with the English language on it, its hard to get hold of and always expensive :(. Anywho... Rumble Roses! Never heard of this game until a few months ago. Plays very similar to the WWE games (same engine I do believe?), but features a bunch of big tit girls in revealing outfits (for those of you who enjoy that). Very fun game which still manages to play differently enough to the WWE games to be considered a clone of the WWE games, just a shame it didn't at least clone the match types lol. SVR 06 is my favourite of the SVR series. Took what SVR started and improved where it needed to be, and took out some stuff that didn't work (those mini games before matches being one). Great gameplay, good roster, good story mode, GM mode. Yey. HCTP is just awesome. SVR 06 is more polished, but the roster for HCTP is sooo much better making it more fun to play at times, and the story mode is better. Still very close for me with which is better.

Won't bother going any further as from here on its just the same games (WWE and TNA wise) on the next gen consoles, and there aren't that many to really bother ranking (08-13, and really only 2 are any good).

SNES
1. WWF Royal Rumble
2. WWF Raw
3. N/A

N64
1. WWF No Mercy
2. WCW/nWo Revenge
3. WWF WrestleMania 2000

GCN
1. Day of Reckoning 2
2. Day of Reckoning
3. N/A

PS1
1. WWF SmackDown 2: Know Your Role
2. WWF SmackDown
3. WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game

PS2
1. WWE SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain
2. WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2006
3. Fire Pro Wrestling: Returns

I think nearly all of these speak for themselves. But I'm sure there is going to be at least one person asking why WrestleMania - The Arcade Game. Simply enough I'm a fan of arcade style fighters. The game was over the top with the mayhem moves (Razor Ramon's chains, Doink The Clown's buzzer, etc), it was amusing. The SNES titles were real fun for the time. The tug of war system took a little bit to get used to. The games weren't bad, especially since they came from LJN.

So would you guys say that WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain, is still the best WWE game ever?

Not gonna lie, I was disappointed with WWE 12 enough to not even buy WWE 13. So I don't even know how good or bad that game is.

Last time I ranked them:

5. No Mercy N64
4. Smackdown Vs Raw 2006 PS2
3. Smackdown Here Come the Pain PS2
2. Day of Reckoning 2 - Gamecube
1. Smackdown 2 PS1

SD 2 as #1 purely because of how much I love it and how fun it is. I'd probably put DOR 2 as #1 now and HCTP #2, then SD 2 #3.

Re: Best WWE games for each console?

PS1
1. SmackDown 2 - Spent countless hours playing this game, even after I got JBI on the PS2.

2. Smackdown - Started it all, pretty fun and innovated for it`s time.

3. WWF Attitude - Never really got around to trying WCW Games, so this is the next best thing.

PS2
1. Here Comes The Pain - Still pop this game from time to time, funnest Wrestling game EVER.

2. SvR 2006 - Most complete wrestling game IMO.

3. Shut Your Mouth - Basically laid the groundwork for HCTP to perfect.

GBA

1. Fire Pro Wrestling (?) - Can`t remember which one I had but whatever it was, it came in handy back when we had a long road trip.

2. Road to Wrestlemania x8 - Was amazed but what I thought was 3D graphics on a handheld console at the time (It wasn`t, it was just computer rendered 2d sprites :p).

N64

1. No Mercy - Prior to SVR06, I thought this was the most complete wrestling game.

2. WWF Wrestlemania 2000 - Like the very first Smackdown was to Smackdown 2, and SYM was to HCTP. This pretty much laid the groundwork for No Mercy, though now I understand that it actually started from the WCW/NWO series.

3. WWF Attitude (?)`:p - Once again, not too familiar with the WCW Titles, so this game by default.

Best Wrestling Games of All Time IMO
By Pure Wrestling Action/Fun
1. Here Comes The Pain
2. Shut Your Mouth
3. SmackDown 2
4. SD vs Raw 2006
5. No Mercy

By CAW making
1. SD vs Raw 2006 - Unbelievable how you can basically get CAWs to look like Brad Pitt, Homer Simpson or even LOTR characters.

2. No Mercy - Versatile CAW engine and with a wee bit of hacking, you can do everything in this game.

3. Shut Your Mouth - Most would probably choose HCTP but I found the CAW engine of SYM to be more versatile than it`s succesor.

4. Here Comes The Pain - Remembered making like a dozen versions of The Undertaker, ABA with Long Hair, Ministry, Masked. Pretty good CAW engine if you have the patience for it.

5. Most modern WWE games (SVR09-Present)

Re: Best WWE games for each console?

I'm going to rank these by the consoles I've owned.

PS1
1. WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role

I can't rank the rest since this was the only wrestling game I've played for the PS1, but this game was fun as hell to play back then. I wish I still had the disc for this game.

PS2
1. Smackdown vs Raw 2006
2. WWE Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth
3. WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain

I think the best PS2 wrestling game belongs to Smackdown vs Raw 2006. SvR 2006 was the game that had a perfect balance between arcade and simulation. While 2006 provided more of a simulation and realistic feel than its predecessors, the game was still fun to play. Season mode was lengthy and awesome. There were so many match types you could choose from. CAW mode was deeper than ever at its time. Gameplay felt realistic with the chain grapples, but yet maintained an arcade like style, with punches and kicks sounding impactful, and moves being oversold. SYM and HCTP, I didn't really play them that much. I bought both games a resale store about 2 years ago, and now they don't work anymore. During the time I've played these two games, I've found myself enjoying SYM more than HCTP. I liked the backstage brawl areas better in SYM than the ones in HCTP, and I also liked SYM's season mode better. Both games were really fun to play.

Since no one ranked the current gen console wrestling games, I'll rank them.

PS3
1. WWE 13
2. WWE 12
3. Smackdown vs Raw 2011

For the current gen wrestling games, these games got better over time. Each wrestling game in this generation was better than the one before, with the exception of Smackdown vs Raw 2008. I felt that WWE 13 is the best wrestling game so far in this generation because it's the most realistic wrestling game that I've played so far. Ever since WWE 12, the matches actually look like real matches on TV, and 13's gameplay polished most of the problems for WWE 12. Predator Technology 2.0 was also a plus for WWE 13, as it added selling to every move you hit, and improved the physics system. Attitude Era Mode was fun to play, as the story mode for this year is much longer than last year's, and it felt less restrictive than last year's as well. The creations for WWE 13 are the best ever for any wrestling game, especially with the improved Create an Arena mode. Choosing between which was better between SvR 2011 and WWE 12 was a tough one. SvR 2011 was a very fun wrestling game because of the new physics system. The physics system made the game much better, and gave it replay value along with the new Universe Mode. The physics system in WWE 12 wasn't that good , but the overall gameplay in WWE 12 was better due to Predator Technology. Gameplay was one of the weak points of SvR 2011. Without the physics system, SvR 2011 could have easily been one of the worst wrestling games of this generation. The gameplay was slow, the moves didn't look impactful, and it seemed like everyone had the same moveset. The movesets also seemed limited. WWE 12 for me is better than SvR 2011.
