Wwf backlash (n64)

Anybody have pictures of this what could have been game? Heard an old issue of GamePro magazine has pictures and the article of the game being cancelled.

I've read many rumors of the game being 30-50% completed

WWF Backlash was a canceled video game for the Nintendo 64. It was going to published by THQ and developed by AKI and was to be the follow-up to the critically acclaimed WWF No Mercy. The game was reportedly 20% completed before support for the game was dropped. Nintendo stopped supporting the Nintendo 64 on a larger scale by this time which is the reason why the game was never released. Questions have been sent to AKI, but they have gone unanswered.

Re: Wwf backlash (n64)

I always wondered why they made 4 games that went from strength to strength and never made another one on any console. It's ludicrous that I got excited about this game, 10 years after the article I read had been published and it was never created.

The first WCW game was good for it's time, and WCW/NWO Revenge was very smart and very well made, which was improved in Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy.

I've read since things ranging from a Hell in a Cell match, a 6 man tag match, WCW/ECW wrestlers included and obviously updated roster/arenas/music/moves etc. I guess they just didn't realize the legacy they were leaving with No Mercy.

Well, WWE basically dropped them for a few other companies for no reason. WCW did pick them up for Mayhem 2, but WCW was bought out. Leading to them making the first two Def Jam games. (Nice one, Vince.)

I never even knew anything about this cancelled game. And the part I bolded, I agree with completely. They had the perfect formula for a wrestling game. With the story modes added to "No Mercy" they had finally the greatest game possible... So, why go away from what works?

Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth was great, yes, probably still is. But I think the games just got worse and worse after SYM. I bought 13, played Attitude Era mode and can't seem to find any real desire to play it again. The gameplay is just too bad, IMO. Please go back to AKI.

The gamepro mag from 2001 I believe had a pic of Angle and Taker on top of HIAC.

I know man.

It's not even like looking back and in hindsight thinking that no more WWF No Mercy-esque games was a bad idea. At the time, WWF No Mercy was looked at as the greatest of it's kind, and it's engine was even used in different games such as Hybrid Heaven. It was living it's legacy.

Ahh, could you imagine if Nintendo would have continued to create those games? We would probably have the Smackdown series on the PS/Xbox, and the No Mercy Series on the Nintendo. Makes sense because the Wii versions of the Smackdown games are awful. Slow, lumbering and with a lot of things missing.
