Default Does WWE need annual releases?

I know alot changes in WWE within a years timespan(this time last year,so many guys had diff themes, attire colors, Raw theme/stage/logo was diff,IC title was diff design and so on), but is it really necessary to have games every year?

From THQ/WWE standpoint,it's necessary since games every year equals more money. But from a fans standpoint, is it really needed? Even sports games some people are starting to question more and more about why they get it every year. Many people are starting to just skip a year(ex,you'll buy 2013 game, but skip 2014 and buy 2015), or buy the game used since price would be $20-30 cheaper.

I like the annual releases. Plus, as long as people keep buying them, they'll keep releasing them.

If there is a demand for it in the marketplace then of course WWE needs to put one of these out every year. They are a publicly owned company and these titles make alot of money so yeah.

It needs to have yearly spaces because of the amount of time it takes to create these games, even if it's just an update. You'll be very surprised how long it takes to make a new game, perhaps 3 to 4 years on average all together. You can list a handful of changes from any two WWE games, from graphics to new game modes and match types. The story modes of each game take time to make as well. I'm surprised they actually fit all that into a year.

Plus more money is the point of having a company. Truthfully, you'd much rather get more money than truly satisfy each and every consumer, because that's the point in having a job and a company. This is also why game companies include special pre-order/special edition/first hand buyer goodies so that they get more money sent directly to them.

Yes they do. So many things change in WWE in just one year. And it's just like FIFA or NBA 2k series. Everybody have one year to play the game and know when to expect the next one.

On the other hand, WWE could do 1 game per 2 or more years and just release DLC's every 6 months.

Coffrey is in rep purgatory
Default Re: Does WWE need annual releases?

I'm actually quite annoyed by the fact that, if you play the very first Smackdown for the PS1 and the latest version I have which is 2009, they aren't that different. Obviously there are updated rosters and that's cool, but the ingame things don't actually change.

If you're an avid WWE fan, well you need to get your head checked, but if you are, then buying each year for updated rosters I suppose would be worth it to you. But if you're not a WWE fan, yet you like wrestling games, I'd probably buy every one 4 years. There will be enough differences to make it a good enough experience

Agreed. Plus in some cases the new game is worse than the old game.

SD 2 > SD 3
Here comes the pain > SD vs Raw
SD vs Raw 07 > 08

they could do what ufc did, wait two years instead of one and actually make the best gameplay/presentation add all the little things the fans want to add to the game.

There are very few changes in the actual gameplay and its just all about the updated roster each year. The games AI is still shit and the game is not really a challenge.I think they should wait two years as then they will have to pull their finger out and actually have some innovation in the game to make people want to part with their money but on the other hand people will complain that with the two year wait that they cannot play as Jinder Mahal or some other meaningless wrestler.
