Some small updates

#51: Add New User

One addition to the game is that new users can join a game that is already in progress, via the Options menu. Simply put, they pick their avatar and starting promotion in the same manner as they would if they'd been there from the start and are then added last to the order of active players.

#52: Dropping Out Of Multiplayer

Linked to the previous addition, players can now drop out of a multiplayer game whenever they like, via the Options menu. The only limitation is that at least one player must remain active. Once the user drops out, the character that was his avatar turns into a regular AI-controlled character and continues on.

#53: Maximum Number Of Players

A very simple addition, the maximum number of active players has been increased from four to eight.

Existing Avatars

When picking his or her avatar, the user will now not only have the option of selecting from a series of pre-made specialist avatar characters, but also the choice of selecting from any existing character.

If the user decides to play as an existing character, he will take on all their existing skills, relationships, teams, etc, etc. The only limit is that the user's avatar can still only be employed by the promotion the user is with (i.e. the one he is head booker of), so if the selected character works for other companies he will lose those contracts automatically.

Once all the players have selected their characters, you will automatically be given the choice of removing all the pre-made specialist avatars from the game world; if left in, they become regular AI-controlled characters.

Restricted Areas

The 'restricted areas' settings (whether or not workers were limited to being employed by companies in areas they had been set to be available) were previously only available via the Database Information section of the editor; for the new game, they are now readily available from Options, meaning that they can now be changed (as many times as necessary) at any time.

The three settings are: Off (workers can sign for companies in any game area), Semi (only International or Global companies can sign workers who are not set to be available in their area), and Full (workers can only sign for companies in game areas in which they've been set to work).

For example, if Wrestler X was set to work in USA, Canada and Mexico then he could always work for any American, Canadian or Mexican company, but if a Japanese promotion wanted him: under Off settings he could work for them, under Semi settings he could only work for them if they were International-sized or above, under Full settings he could not sign for them.

Improved Talent Trade

The Talent Trade feature has been upgraded for TEW2013. It is now also available directly from the Control Room \ Office rather than the more obscure route of having to go into a promotion's profile first, for ease of use.

You can now offer up to five workers in exchange for your target worker. This allows you to potentially use several of your stars to snag a mega-star target. The AI will not be fooled by mere bulk though - it will recognise that five terrible workers doesn't equal one good worker, as five terrible workers are still useless even if there are five of them.

You can now also offer cash incentives. This can either be in addition to the worker(s) you are offering for trade, or as an alternative - the latter meaning you are essentially 'buying' the worker you want temporarily.

Unused Pictures

New to the editor is a section called 'Free Pictures'; this is essentially a storehouse for all the worker pictures that you may have that are not being used anywhere else in the game.

Each picture, when added, is tagged with data that identifies how it can be used. When new characters are created during game play, TEW can then look through the Free Picture store and see if there are any appropriate pictures available that can be used.

The identification data includes: Gender, Acceptable Positions (wrestler, manager, announcer, etc), Acceptable Sizes (Very Small to Giant) and Acceptable Races (White, Black, Asian, etc).

There is also a Yes \ No box for "Use Once"; this allows you to say whether the picture can only be used once per game. If it is set to only be used once, the entry is deleted after use, meaning that you won't end up with two workers using the same picture.

This system therefore allows any unused pictures to be recycled in a useful way, without needing to mess about with complex file name identifiers.

The way final show ratings are calculated has been upgraded in TEW2013.

In previous games, the rating was calculated by creating an initial rating based on the match grades (usually 70% of the main event, 20% of the penultimate match, and 10% of the average of the rest) and then tweaking that slightly based on the angle ratings. While there is nothing wrong with this approach per se, it does force every promotion to concentrate predominantly on matches as they provide the majority of the points.

The new method better incorporates angles by using a two-fold system.

Firstly, an overall angle rating is now created based on a similar method to the matches; it is usually made up of 70% of the best angle rating, 20% of the second best, and 10% of the third best. Obviously these ratios change if there are less than three angles.

Secondly, and crucially, the overall grade is then created by looking at how the show was split (in terms of time) between matches and angles. So if a one hour show featured half an hour of matches and half an hour of angles, the overall rating would be made up of 50% of the overall match rating plus 50% of the overall angle rating.

This is a key change because it means that promotions have far more leeway in how they operate; a company that can pump out great angles but features awful matches had little chance in previous games, whereas in TEW2013 they will be able to operate like that and still have the chance to thrive. It also fundamentally alters the game world, as it means that great entertainers who are poor in the ring are no longer considerably less valuable than great wrestlers who are dull, as they can provide a much bigger positive impact on shows.

AI can create feuds

New to TEW2013 is a feature that sees AI-controlled promotions able to have their own "official" feuds.

When a new feud is created you will be able to read about it in the Internet section, as well as reviewing all the current feuds via a promotion's profile. Feuds are either singles or tag.

If a promotion has current feuds it will work them into its cards by increasing the chance that people who are feuding are booked together in angles and matches.

Worker Race, End Of The Year Awards & Last Contender

The End Of Year awards have always been sent to the player in the form of e-mails in previous games; something which can get annoying over time as they clog up your inbox. In TEW2013, this method has been replaced by having proper Internet stories about each one.

#65: AI 'Last Contender'

An issue that could crop up in previous games is the AI giving the same worker or team multiple title shots in a row due to a small pool of challengers. The AI in TEW2013 now keeps track of the 'last contender' and, unless under extraordinary circumstances, will never allow the same person \ team to get two shots in a row.
