Gran Turismo received an 8.5 from IGN, and it's now regarded as one of the best racing sims ever made.
Call of Duty: Black Ops got an 8.5, and it's regarded as one of the best and most played editions of the franchise.
Minecraft got an 8.5, and you probably won't find a more popular game atm.
Review scores are subjectives, and flaws don't always take away from one's enjoyement. Just because Greg Miller overrated the franchise in the past doesn't make an 8.4 horrible.

The thing that makes me turn off from a wrestling game is their movement, ever since wrestling games went 3D, they are walking like they have a stick up their ass or a diaper full of poop. I don't understand why its so damn difficult to make some high res graphics for a wrestling game, the audience looks like they did when i bought Smackdown VS Raw 2007. This is TNA Impact from 2006:

Still haven't decided on FAxx. I'm gonna hate myself if I get it, but I might. 20 bucks is just a ton for that.
I haven't based buying a game off of reviews since I was like 15. You kidding me?? If I followed what reviews say I wouldn't like the games I like, and would love games I don't like. And like JJJ said, how the F is an 8.4 bad??? That's nearly a B+ but in this time 9's are considered "okay" pretty much. It's not even showing your age, dude. I'm only 22, reviews didn't used to be like this just a few years ago.

I got the game this saturday. Been playing it like crazy. *Spoilers For attitude era mode:*
Attitude Era mode is great. It starts off a little slow, but after the Montreal Screwjob, it gets amazing.Every match has these little historical objectives you can complete, and doing so unlocks Arenas, wrestler, etc. Oh, from what I can tell, they didn't censor anything, aside from Austin's middle fingers and the WWF name/logo.
The Mankind vs Taker HIAC is awesome. JR screaming: "Bah gawd almighty they killed him!" made me tear up a bit.
The commentary is still shit, but the crowd is pretty good. There's even some dueling chants! (Let's go Cena, Cena Sucks! C Punk, Y2J! Daniel Bryan, Cm Punk!)
And every Daniel Bryan match starts with the crowd chanting YES! like crazy.
Catching finishers are hard as **** to hit though. They demand strict timing.
