Welcome to Fringe’s Summer Slam Snake Draft!!!

:gameon

Some folks may be new to the concept of a snake draft, but do not fret. It's relatively simple, fun, and requires minimal commitment in comparison to the traditional auction draft.

This is a turn-based draft, and will begin with 8 open slots for players. If there are more than 8 people who are serious about playing, then I’ll consider bumping up to 12.

Since there have been a few dropouts in previous drafts, and this is my first time hosting, only established members of the forum may participate. This does NOT mean premium members only, but members who have been here for a respectable length of time.

Once every place on the roster is filled, this will be the discussion and trade thread. I will create a separate thread exclusively for draft picks.

:flairdance

A snake draft is defined as such:

Owners participate in each round of the draft by taking turns selecting players in a snake draft format (i.e., 1-8, 8-1, 1-8, etc.).

Each team drafts one player per round until all roster slots are full.

:becky

Drafting:

Draft order will be randomized and assigned immediately after registration has ended. Afterwards, each player has a maximum of 18 hours to draft.

When posting your draft pick, please remember to tag the next player in line to keep the Snake Draft rolling.

If they have not drafted after 18 hours, the next person is able to draft and it will continue.

If you miss one round, you can pick two the next round. You can only do this TWICE. If you miss three rounds a replacement may be discussed.

Maximum roster size is 24. Therefore, there will be 24 rounds overall, done on Monday through Friday. On some days I might say, bump up your picks to 2 just to keep the pace going. While drafting is fun, the real action begins with creating a card. My goal is to reach that point within about 3-4 weeks.

Trades are enabled at any time. To trade, use the discussion thread or cb. Both parties must confirm the trade in thread for it to be official.

:vince$

Picks:

Any wrestler or wrestling personality you can think of is able to be drafted. This includes managers or even guest stars like Cyndi Lauper or Donald Trump.

You may pick characters from CZW and Lucha Underground and mix them with old school Mid-Atlantic Wrestling if you wish. The only limit is your imagination.

One gimmick per wrestler. If someone picks Ricochet you cannot pick Prince Puma.

This does mean, however, you can utilize any gimmick any wrestler has ever used.

AMENDMENT to TAG TEAM picks:

In order to address previous players' concerns, and also help move the draft process along faster, established Tag Teams of two (2) wrestlers may be picked together (ex: Steiner Bros., Road Warriors). A player may only use this privilege once every other round. This will only count as one pick, no need to skip a round.

This amendment applies only to "established" tag teams. Rock n' Sock Connection or HBK/HHH is fine, as they actually had multiple Tag Team title runs. You cannot draft CM Punk and Stone Cold together, for example. Additionally, any team chosen must exclusively be used together on the card. This includes Trades, and winner picks after the first round of cards. Splitting them up would grant too much of an unfair advantage.

:hano

Matches:

With a max roster of 24, you may have up to 12 matches on your card.

Any individual wrestler (aside from Tag Teams, per above) may be used a maximum of TWO times per show.

REPEAL of Stipulation Restrictions.

That's right, if you want to create a card full of Texas Death Matches, or nothing but Women's matches (or both!), follow your bliss. Let's see how wild your cards can get...

My hope is this repeal will allow your imaginations to flourish and add a new element of surprise to the drafts. Let the voters decide how much is too much.
:ambrose5

Voting:

Once the draft ends, and the cards are made and turned in, you the Wrestling Forum universe have the power to decide which card is the best.

Points will be awarded +4 from participants, and +3 for non-participants. Campaign if you wish. More visitors to the Drafts is a good thing. Each vote must be accompanied by a brief comment in the thread to be valid. A few substantive sentences will suffice.

Something like “Fringe more my type of card” isn’t going to cut it, however. :CITO

Additionally, you must vote on each card. Where I have loosened other rules, I am tightening up on voting to help address players' concerns. No Snake Dissin' in this draft, frawends.

Thank you for your interest, feel free to PM with any questions or concerns. Looking forward to a great end of summer Snake Draft!!!

Gotta show love to Brother @Andre, who came at me hard when I botched things up, but no doubt had LOVE for the DRAFTS in his heart. Not to mention @Scott Hall's Ghost, for so quickly forgiving me for said botching of the draft. True G's, both.

:thecause

Trades are open until Saturday 8/27 at 7am (EST). I'll post the final updated rosters that evening.

As for cards, I want to ensure everyone has enough time to fully realize their vision. I'm penciling in next Thursday 9/1 at 7p EST as the deadline.

Thanks again and have a great weekend!!!

Brother Fringe

Well you know what they say about good intentions...

As I admitted yesterday, the weekend recess was a bust, and seemed to do more harm than good. Mea culpa. From here on, the snake draft will keep on rollin' until everyone has a roster of 24.

As for today's fuckery, my intention was not to bring down the hammer on anyone. While the recess did botch things, the delay of Round 8 was starting to get out of hand. There was considerable grumbling. My intent was that in binding the rules, so to speak, it would jump start the draft again and we'd be back to that sweet spot from last week. Boy was I wrong about that; Again, mea culpa.

:deanfpalm

So to clarify, drafting rules are as follows:

Each player has a maximum of 18 hours after the last player's pick to draft.

Therefore, there will be 24 rounds overall, running Monday through Sunday. With double-pick rounds and the amended tag team rule, some may not need to pick in all of the final rounds.

Tag teams can be selected with one pick, but count as 2 roster members. They must be used together on the card (either as a team, or one-on-one).

Trades are enabled at any time. To trade, use the discussion thread or cb. Both parties must confirm the trade in thread for it to be official.

This is the first time I've ever run a draft or attempted anything remotely like this, especially with individuals from different time zones. If I fuck up, by all means let me know. None of us is perfect. I welcome feedback and constructive criticism; but don't go trashing me in the chat box or blowing up my inbox if I don't give a proper response fast enough to your liking. Respect is a two way street. I'm at work during the daytime (EST) and am busting ass in 100 degree heat on average right now. I do check in during the day; however, roster updates and notes (like this one) are done in the evening when I can spend some time and hash out the details.

I stepped up to host because all things considered, the drafts were in rough shape. I wanted to give back to a section of WF that brought a lot of good times and fostered new friendships over the last year. Iirc, Oxi had a thread open for months regarding "The State of the Drafts" and no one else was exactly rushing to volunteer. So please, pretty please; cut me a little slack if I fuck up early on (we are only on Week 2 here....). I do this for the love of WF and its storied tradition of fantasy wrestling drafts. It certainly isn't for any personal benefit.

I hope this clears up most of the confusion, and we can get back to what was shaping up as a promising draft for the ages.

Namaste,

Fringe

Allow me to announce the First Ever Wrestling Fantasy Drafts "MVP Award." This is a honor reserved not for the ultimate victor, but one who showed guts, passion, and exemplar sportsmanship throughout the draft. The Most Valuable Player is one whose enthusiasm and passion for the Drafts rubbed off on his fellow players, who encouraged them to look past squabbles and keep LOVE OF THE DRAFTS first and foremost. He is one who went above and beyond the call of duty with detailed, constructive feedback on every card, in every round; and even when he was passed over for lesser talent, he never gave up.

Please give a round of applause to the Summer Slam Snake Draft's Most Valuable Player, @Scott Hall's Ghost!!!

:applause :fuckyeah

Thank you sir, for all you've done. I think everyone can agree that you helped enrich this experience for all of us.

While I can't provide any colored bars or the like, I thought giving away a Premium Membership would be a nice way to show my appreciation. Since you already have one, you could gift the VIP bar to another you deem worthy to handle such responsibility. Let me know and I'll make it happen.

Thanks to everyone for playing and making this a big success, overall, and a hell of a lot of fun. @A-C-P @SHIRLEY

Thanks to my consigliere, advocate, and font of wisdom all things WF Drafts, @Kappa. Your drafts were run like a well tuned machine and made this look easy. It's not. Thanks for helping keep me on the straight and narrow. @Healytron was also a generous resource early on in getting the draft up and running. You both have my eternal appreciation, gents.

@3MB4Life I hope your first round in the Drafts didn't turn you off. Your card was much better than my first go round in one of these things. It was a pleasure to have you here.

I even thank @Andre for being a pain in my ass. Underneath it all he still has LOVE for the DRAFTS so I won't hold it against him. His upcoming BLACK MARKET AUCTION even sounds like fun.

And last but not least, thank you @Flay. You were right, this can be tougher than it looks.

ROSTERS are LOCKED IN, and it seems our Summer Slam Snake Draft has achieved an UNPRECEDENTED feat with no trades whatsoever!!!

:ambrose5

Some cards have already been turned in, but there is no rush. I want every player to have ample time to fully realize their vision. The deadline is Thursday evening at 7pm EST.

Remember that you may use multiple stipulations and that there is virtually no limit barring your imagination. You may only use each character twice. In the case of tag team draft picks, they must be used together; either together or even in one-on-one combat.

Looking ahead, I want to say a few words about Voting:

While I've been fairly lax on some things, for the INTEGRITY OF THE DRAFTS I'm going to be a bit of a hard ass in this department.

To vote will require three steps: first, to respond to each poll on the match up, and second, to post a few sentences explaining the reason behind your vote. I do not expect a novella, but a few sentences briefly stating why one card was preferable to the other.

A example of an acceptable vote:

Man, that Ivelisse/Asuka match is great for an opening match, but the Main Event!?! :CITO

Pillman/Okada otoh was something different for a change. Could have used a stronger upper card.

However, the other card had much more star power and engaging story lines. A nice balanced card from top to bottom, and gets my vote.
An example of a vote that will be disqualified:

Fringe more my type of card.
The former provides some constructive criticism, giving both players something with which to objectively assess their cards. The latter provides no insight whatsoever on either card.

Step Three follows long established Draft precedent, that is, voters must also vote on each card. I don't think this is too much to ask from those who genuinely want to enrich the draft experience for all involved. Campaign in the CB or via PM all you wish, but the votes must follow these simple guidelines to be accepted.

Also in following tradition, Points will be awarded +4 from participants, and +3 for non-participants.

Match Ups will be randomized, and will be posted as cards start to filter in. Considering work schedules and such, odds are I'll be posting most of the matches over the weekend.

Any questions or concerns feel free to ask!!!

I've had no issues with you, mate. As always-- really appreciate all the work you do. Sorry I held things up at all, but I hope we can move forward and enjoy a smooth draft from here on out. Also, Oxi drafted the same guy twice over the course of three rounds. That's a thing that happened. I believe he saved this draft. Oxi for president.

Round 2 Cards are LIVE, ba-bay!! You guys really out did yourselves on this go, outstanding work from all involved. Those who have been eliminated, do yourself a favor and check out these match-ups. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and moreover, entertained!!! Thanks again to everyone for participating, this Draft has been a blast to play and an honor to host. :swanson

Even if everybody faded away after they were eliminated (poor showing, damn near everybody on this list. Although STEVIE has been banned and ACP is on vacation, so they have the benefit of those excuses for their voting absence), I think it's still good if we can acknowledge Fringe for hosting a wonderful SNEAK DRAFT for us. The hosting duties of tracking rosters, picks, trades, enforcing rules and dealing with bickering participants is an often times thankless job. Accordingly, let's take a minute now and thank Fringe for his efforts in this draft.

As always, I had a blast. I went off the deep end a bit drafting the likes of Alex Trebek, God, RoboCop, Hugh Jackman et al, but his format and setup allowed those rules to come into play and gave me an outlet for some creativity. Fun times indeed, and great job hosting!

Finally, a shout-out to Andre for capturing his first Wrestling Draft championship. He's only participated twice and appeared in two finals already, so his presence is certainly welcome. I look forward to seeing what ideas he has in store as an upcoming Draft host!
